Welcome to rec.games.frp.archives
=================================
I see a lot of story traffic on this group. If the authors wish to
get a wider readership, they may consider cross-posting to
rec.arts.prose. I have not seen very many of the stories here
posted there, but I'm sure a lot of the readers of that group would
enjoy them just as much. Just thought I'd make a suggestion.

NOTE FROM THE MODERATOR FOR AUTHORS OF VARIOUS MATERIALS
===================================================================
Some authors have recently been asking me about the current
situation with TSR's policy on copyrights and trademarks in peoples'
work. While I personally think they're being completely rediculous about
this, it is a serious issue. If you're concerned about being targetted
by TSR about your materials, the only advice I can currently give is to
have your materials removed from archive sites and keep all the materials
yourself. If disk space is a concern, I have also been keeping all
articles I have posted archived here as well, so you need not fear losing
those bits. I can't keep back issues as well, unfortunately.
I have been in contact with other game publishers on the net
about the situation, and have received a noteable amount of support
against TSR's policy. I know where all the authors stand. I know that
nobody's trying to infringe on TSR's rights, but they (TSR) insist on being
paranoid.
I will continue to post things sent my way which are relevant
materials for the group until told otherwise. Also, I am in the process
of setting up a mailing list where you, the authors, compilers, and rule
writers, as well as the publishers themselves, and the archive
administrators can discuss the issue, and try to come up with some sort
of middle ground, such that neither side need worry about having their
copyrights compromised, as well as not having to go and modify works that
have been around for years. If you would interested in participating in
this forum, send me email and once the list is in place, I will add
everyone to it, and inform everyone of the address of the list.

===================================================================
This is just my monthly message of how I do things here as moderator of
this group, where to find various things, etc.
Firstly, do not send comments about stories, archive updates, etc. to me.
I just post the stuff. Send them to the authors. I don't forget
frequently to put the author's address in the From: line, but should it
happen, feel free to ask me who it is. If a poster requests anonymity
for whatever reason, email addresses will not be given out. Period.
Also, any posts containing comments/questions about stories, etc. will
*not* get posted. Check out the charter for the group for further
details.
Secondly, to get something posted to the group, just post like you
normally would. The message will get forwarded to me for actual posting.
Unless you are having problems with your posting software, do *not* send
posts directly to me.
When you do post, if for some reason you have to send something to me,
please include the headers below in the subject line. This filters to a
separate mail folder of mine. I get 200-300 work-related mail messages per
day, and don't want these getting lost in my self-imposed daily tedium.
Headers:
The headers for posts will contain one of several prefixes to
indicate the type of post. They will be:
STORY: for stories.
REFERENCE: for materials pertaining to other posts, such as story
indeces, FAQ's, etc.
SUPPLEMENT: for game rules or additions.
CHARACTER: for example characters
RESOURCE: for game tools which are non system/genre specific.
BINARY: for uuencoded binaries of photos or executables of gaming-related subjects.
REVIEW: reviews of publications.
Other headers may be created, and I will explain them when this occurs.
Other, administrative posts will be given no prefixes, such as this post,
the archive lists, etc.
If an issue for a series, such as ADVENTURERS, for some reason does not
get posted, please send me mail about it. I do not read every series
(other than to verify that it should be posted), and as such do not keep
track of many of the issue numbers closely. I will try to find out what
happened, and get the non-posting corrected.
I will make my best effort to get to posts at least once a day. Occasionally,
however, things here get hideously busy, and may not get to it once in a
while. Don't panic unless you don't see a posting for, say, 3-4 days. 8-)
Weekend postings will also frequently not get posted until Monday morning.
Feel free to send me mail with comments, criticisms, missed information,
but please include the above-mentioned strings so I don't miss them.
Flames with be sent to the bit-bucket.
