Part 3
======
10th of February, 1655
We came to a town peopled by 'elves' and 'halflings' and 'gnomes' and other
such things. Had fun in the taverns. In fact, it was there that I
instructed Minoglet on how to obtain some cheap ale. We had gone off to a
run-down inn in a poor quarter of the city. Outside, I pretended to turn my
ankle and while I rubbed at it, picked up two fist-sized stones. Upon
entering the inn, I ordered an ale for Minoglet and one for myself so that
we wouldn't get too bored watching the show and we sat in a dark corner.
After they had arrived, I paid the lad and tipped him generously. I then
waited and watched where he placed the money at the counter. Then, I took
one stone in each hand and carefully threw them towards their targets. One
hit the jug of ale belonging to a huge elf, splashing the stuff all over
him while the other landed just beside the hand of a poor, slim chap who
had crossed said hands on his table. Unfortunately for him, he was just in
front of the big, angry man and would have been reduced to a pulp had the
barkeep and his aids not tried to intervene. Meanwhile, I had taken my ale
in hand and made my way towards the two fighters and the barkeep who was
now trying to stop the fight. Once I was beside the lad, I bumped the
bartender towards the upset pair and the rest of the patrons started to
move in to add their comments to the brawl. Eventually, I reached the bar,
jumped over it, took the gold and a keg of ale. I escaped by crashing
through the window overlooking the bar. When I later met up with Minoglet,
she was quite startled and gave me a very questionning look; to which I
replied simply that we needed the money.
When we leave this planet, I'll be able to say with nae a doubt that I've
seen things even stranger here than I would have e'er imagined. During our
stay, we met an old man with a severe dental problem who possessed an
odd allergy to sunlight. I learned later that he was in fact a...VAMPIRE!
And I thought that those things were just rambling stories my grandfather
used to tell to scare me! It turned out that this vampire was 'good' and
needed our help to prove his innocence. A body was found that night with
wounds similar to what he himself would inflict. The only difference was
that they were on an honourable citizen and not one the criminals the vampire
usually hunts down. We went to the scene of the crime with our new-found
friend, Pikel, a dwarf with an attitude. There, we looked at the body and
found tiny tracks leading from it to the side of a building. As we were
examining the carcass, an elf came behind us and introduced himself: 'I am
Christian and I would like to assist you people in finding out the real
culprit.' So it was that without further introductions, Christian joined
our party. I went to the building and knocked on the door. After a while,
a somewhat drunken lad answered my pounding. Fortunately for me, I had
procured myself some ale at a local tavern where I had begun a brawl...
This I offered to the land-lubber and we drank together at the table while
my friends searched his house. The poor chap couldn't even hold his liquor
and he soon fell asleep. At that point, I joined my friends on the roof
where we found the real culprits... BLOOD SPIDERS!
In a matter of minutes, I had them shish-kabobed on my trident while the
rest of the party tried futilely to get in a good word for themselves.
There was one moment when I felt the cold hand of fear clutch my stomach; when
one of the spiders jumped and fastened itself to my neck with one of it's
legs! Fortunately, I shook it off before it sucked any of my blood.
After these interesting events, we went to the city hall where I showed the
mayor my arguments on why the Vampire didn't kill the victim (ie: both the
spiders and the Trident holding them were effective in convincing the poor
sap.)
That evening, we went into a tavern to drink and sleep. Inside, Pikel met
an old friend. This person wanted our help to save the dwarves from almost
certain confusion. The dwarven ex-queen had, apparently not for the first
time, denounced her intention to destroy the dwarven city and to kill an
assortement of dwarven captives including the new Queen. In the face of this
most urgent threat, we quikly went to bed.
11th of February, 1655
In the morning, we headed to the dwarf's town. En-route, we encountered a
group of marauding elves who wanted us to pay a toll to pass safely across
the bridge. Lancefear, the brave Knight that he was decided to challenge
the leader. As a result, the elves took out their pet scorpions
and indicated that they would allow us to pass if we beat the leader in an
arm-wrestling contest. After a vicious struggle, Lancefear lost and was
stung by the scorpion.
And so ends the story of another religious zealot. Actually, I liked the
lad, he had 'some' sense in him when he wasn't arm wrestling with a
scorpion under his hand that is...
We paid the toll asked by the leader, crossed the bridge and buried
Lancefear in the river bank.
