Subject: Still Rare & Unreleased. Part 1: 1961-1966
This is an attempt to investigate how many more Bob Dylan songs that are
still rare and unreleaded. This first posting covers 1961-1966.
Dylan songs may be classified as
a copyrighted songs officially released
b copyrighted songs released on demos or under another name ("rare")
c copyrighted songs circulating among collectors
d copyrighted songs available only in other artist's versions
e uncopyrighted but finished songs circulating among collectors
f uncopyrighted and unfinished songs circulating among collectors,
usually tapes from studio sessions or from sound checks
g rumored songs
Below is a list of all songs in categories b-e, i.e. songs that may be
considered for future Bootleg Series volumes. Of course some of the rumored
songs may turn out to really exist, or fragments and/or unfinished songs may
be recorded in more final versions, but no such speculations are made here.

Subject: Still Rare & Unreleased. Summary.
Not less than 110 songs can be likely candidates for forthcoming volumes
in the Bootleg Series. A staggering number! Much more than I thought.
The line that I have drawn between finished songs and unfinished songs
is admittedly rather arbitrary. In a number of cases it is debatable
if Bob Dylan really is the writer. This is especially true of the unreleased
Basement Tape songs. On the other hand there is bound to be a number of
the rumored songs that actually exists as finished recordings. It seems
therefore perfectly safe to say that at least one more 3-CD set of excellent
material could be released if Sony Music and Bob Dylan so wishes.
