  266. A nicely organized CD with two complete recordings of '61 Dylan tapes.
  267. The sound is very good overall, and better on the East Orange cuts then
  268. the New York cuts (If you just want the Carnegie Chapter Hall concert,
  269. there is less static on the "Acoustic Troubador" CD described below).
  270.  
  271. This CD contains a booklet with a description of the circumstances of
  272. these recordings in German, French, Italian, and English.  The English
  273. is at times humorous: "Mr and Mrs Gleason conceived a passion for
  274. Woodie Guthrie and the folk music; so they was used to record the music
  275. that friends and frequent callers played at their home."  Besides
  276. peculiar wording, the information is gotten across, and the packaging
  277. is not skimpy.  The label side of the disc is decorated with black
  278. mirror images of a head and shoulder shot of a young Dylan, with the
  279. disc title in orange.

  306. Strangely, none of my foreign correspondents have seen this CD yet.
  307. This is a nice product- the CD is pretty full, the sound is great and
  308. the packaging is attractive.  When I first saw it, I thought "Strange
  309. that they didn't include the acoustic Idiot Wind."  Listened to it,
  310. and, well, they did.  Cuts 10 and 11 are actually:
  311.

  315. and 'If You See Her' is left off the disk.  On the disc itself, the
  316. track listing is correct, even though the packaging is wrong.  Too bad,
  317. as otherwise this gets full marks.  Cuts 8 and 9 are from the afternoon
  318. show, and not on the legitimate Concert for Bangladesh release.  The
  319. disc packaging consists of hand-colored black and white photos of
  320. Dylan, to good effect.

  349. This CD is a good example of why people dislike bootlegs.  Despite its label,
  350. the disc itself is missing "Song to Woody" from the Gaslight- a stupid omission
  351. since the Gaslight Tape is widely circulated.  The order of the Finjan Club
  352. cuts printed on the disk does not match the order they actually appear in -
  353. that is just plain sloppy production.
  354.  
  355. The sound quality is not good- about the same as my Nth generation tape of
  356. the performance.   The vocals are clear, but there is a lot of static and
  357. a constant hiss.

  618. disk is attractive.

  620. The sound quality is good, although there is slight static and a few
  621. soft ticks.  Perhaps the songs here are taken from vinyl.  The very
  622. beginning of cut 7 is missing.  The music is mostly compelling,
  623. although the last song, the only I hadn't heard before, did nothing for
  624. me.

  627. 'limited edition' numbered sticker, but currently the sticker has

  705. excellent material which doesn't seem to be available in any other form
  706. at the moment. Warning: like other Condor cd boots, the speed is off

  759. Another mystery, eh?  These sound like they are recordings of a poorly
  760. amplified concert- there is no static, but the music is distorted and
  761. distant, yielding only a fair sound.

  764. the sound is quite a step below Record Document's other Dylan CDs.

  917. Swinging Pig TSP-CD-009.  Probably the Swinging Pig disk was used as a
  918. master.  Visually, the disk has orange stripes painted on the disk from 
  919. the center, like spokes.  The tracking of this CD is different then that 
  920. on the Pig disk- here divisions are after Dylan introduces a song 
  921. instead of before (ie the Judus exchange is on the end of the previous
  922. cut instead of where you would expect it).  For this reason, I'd 
  923. recommend the Swinging Pig disc instead.

  976. Well, it is nice to get all the cuts from this concert, albeit somewhat
  977. out of order.  I haven't heard a tape of this concert, but the variation
  978. in sound quality on this recording is surprising.  Many cuts are clear,
  979. excellent sound.  Others have Dylan's singing almost inaudible, with 
  980. slight feedback.  Could this be the best there is?  Of course, the 
  981. four cuts which appeared on Self Portrait are present with good sound.
  982. On this disc, some of the cuts fade in and out.  
  983.  
  984. This concert should see a legit release, I think.  Pleasant, if
  985. somewhat uninspired, music.  The packaging includes a color photo of
  986. Dylan at the concert, and reproduces a promotional poster for the
  987. show.

  1198. exactly what a purist hopes for- an entire concert, labeled and ordered
  1199. properly.  On the other hand, it is only a decent audience recording,
  1200. and Dylan sounds particularly shrill.  I think 'Golden Stars' could
  1201. have found a better '78 show.  Despite my opinion, I have heard people
  1202. say that this was their favorite show from this tour, as Dylan exhibits
  1203. a great deal of energy during this performance.

  1205. The packaging is a double CD box with a green profile of Dylan against
  1206. a red background.  The insert booklet is minimal, and repeats the
  1207. information on the outside of the box.  The choice of a title for this
  1208. CD is also a bit odd, as 'I Was Young When I Left Home' is not sung at
  1209. this concert.

  1242. No reason this material couldn't be released legitimately- it really
  1243. makes me wish Columbia would have put out this instead of that awful
  1244. Dylan and the Dead album.

  1303. This is one strange disc. They have interwoven 2 concerts, 1-3 and 11-13
  1304. are from Adelphi, with the 4-10 belonging to the Terkel show. Also, the 
  1305. shows are mis-identified, with the Terkel material being identified as
  1306. Adelphi, and vice-versa, except for #9, which has no attribution. Additionally,
  1307. #4's correct title is 'Farewell". To interweave these 2 shows, they pulled
  1308. a weird trick, by inserting what are probably the same crowd noises (only
  1309. varied) between all the songs. So one gets the impression that it is all
  1310. the same concert (although they make no attempts to identify it as such
  1311. on the packaging). Stranger yet, I have been informed that the Terkel tape
  1312. as such has _no_ crowd noises, as it is just an interview and Bob playing.
  1313. For this disc, there are no traces that there was an interview.  The 
  1314. sound quality varies. The Adelphi stuff is pretty good, with some distortion
  1315. on the lower frequencies (Bob's voice and the bass strings on the guitar),
  1316. yet the highs are clear. Nowhere near as good as the Manchester quality 
  1317. though. The Terkel show songs, on the other hand, are of excellent sound 
  1318. quality. So good, in fact, that it's hard to believe that it is 
  1319. a 1963 non-studio recording. Which leads me to point out the next oddity -
  1320. both the packaging and the disc itself identify the disc as being ADD and
  1321. stereo! I'm not sure how it could have been digitally mixed, although from
  1322. the sound of the Terkel songs, I'm almost willing to believe it. The stereo
  1323. claim seems dubious, given that I'm 97% positive they must have been mono
  1324. tapes. What seems possible is that the makers of the disc digitally mixed
  1325. an audience track with the concert track, and messed around with the 
  1326. channels so that it sounds like stereo.  So what we have here is a strange
  1327. animal - a synthetic Dylan concert, which on the whole sounds pretty good.
  1328. Knowing it's fake though does kind of detract from it though, but it is
  1329. fairly enjoyable.

  1336. I would rate the sound-quality Fair to Good, some songs are
  1337. a bit better, some are a bit worse than on my best first-
  1338. generation bootleg-records.
