When we think about computer ergonomics, we usually look at how our monitor is positioned (is it an appropriate distance from our eyes?), where our keyboard is laid out (in a keyboard tray or on our desktop?), and if our chair height lets us keep our knees at a 90 degree angle. In other words, computer ergonomics has always been about hardware (ours and our machine's). It's never been about the software. That's got to change.</p>
<p>I find myself using my iPad primarily in landscape mode. I do so because in landscape mode you can see most apps' menu items all the time (like a complete list of emails in my inbox laid out next to the message I'm currently viewing in the iPad's Mail app). Seeing everything at once is handy, but the thing is, I find holding my iPad in portrait mode to be much more comfortable and convenient because I can see more text on the screen. The new version of the app addresses one of the major complaints about the original by allowing up to 60 news feeds to be added, with up to 12 feeds on each of five pages. </p>

Researchers looked at the top free applications available from the App Store and discovered that '68% of these applications were transmitting UDIDs to servers under the application vendor's control each time the application is launched.' <p>Citing industry sources, DigiTimes claims that Sintek Photronics has a “good chance” of becoming a supplier for a touchscreen iMac. The Taiwanese publication describes the basic composition of such touchscreen panels:</p>
<p>The new iMac is rumored to have a good vertical and horizontal viewing angle, and its projected capacitive touch panel will adopt a one-glass solution, which integrates the touch sensor and cover glass, to reduce thickness and weight.</p>

But maybe they can still heal the rift. Facebook CTO Bret Taylor told Silicon Alley Insider that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-cto-very-confident-facebook-and-apple-work-together-on-ping-2010-9">he's "very confident" that the two networks</a> can find some common ground.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, he didn't say anything other than that, so as for what kind of common ground they'll find, that's still up in the air. Specifically, they're worried about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/apple-sues-hypermac-battery-maker-for-using-patented-magsafe-and/">Apple's lawsuit against Sanho</a>, in which the battery manufacturer was sued for creating products that unofficially connected to dock connectors on iPhones and iPod touches. Because the iControlPad was originally designed to plug right into the dock connector on the iPhone (and presumably, its creators don't want to have to pay the "Made for iPhone" fee to officially license that hardware), it's got to be <a href="http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php?/topic/326-icp-has-a-bt-chip-in-it-help-us-use-it/">tweaked for Bluetooth support</a> instead.</p>

The Apple Dev Team has proven that the Apple TV, just out of the starting gate, can indeed be jailbroken. Generally, jailbreaking a device means developers can gain the<br />
necessary root access to develop their own apps or customizations. This particular jailbreak, via the SHAtter exploit that was first used on the iPod touch 4G, is not ready for prime time, according to the developers. Nerds squealed with delight last night as the geekiest comedy on American television, <em>The </em><a href="http://www.cbs.com/primetime/big_bang_theory/"><em>Big Bang Theory</em></a>, featured a cameo by Steve Wozniak. The Apple co-founder played himself in a brief scene with the gang from the show (Is that his daughter next to him at the table?). He was pretty funny and seemed comfortable on camera. <p>Other changes have been made to finally bring the app up to speed with <a href="http://tuaw.com/tag/ios4">iOS 4</a> and the <a href="http://tuaw.com/tag/iphone4">iPhone 4</a> -- there's now support for fast app switching, and the app is now optimized for the Retina Display on the iPhone 4. </p>
<p>Previously, users needed a MobileMe subscription to view friends' galleries; now that restriction has been taken away for iPhone and iPad users. The app looks great on an iPad, and if you have any photos stored in MobileMe galleries, you'll want to get this update as soon as possible.</p>

<p>2010 will be remembered as the year when Chrome took off despite Microsoft's attempts to hold on to its shrinking browser market share. It looks like Internet Explorer's two months of market share gains were an aberration. Other trends are continuing as before: Firefox is steady between 20 and 25 percent share, Chrome is steadily moving forward, and Safari trudges onward. Opera, meanwhile, is still hanging on to the leftover scraps. Everyone but Microsoft saw at least a modest market share gain in September.</p>

However it introduced a significant problem with volume over Bluetooth. Any audio from the iPhone over Bluetooth is very low, to the point of being inaudible, even with volume turned to max on the Bluetooth device and the Bluetooth volume on maximum on the iPhone.<br />
<br /><br /><br />
After much discussion over many threads at the Apple support boards, a number of 'fixes' were found but most of them resulted in temporary resolution. These includes resetting iPhone settings and/or deleting the Bluetooth device from the iPhone and re-adding it. <a href="http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12315589#12315589">This thread</a> discusses the actual fix, and I have pasted the contents below.<br />

This week Carbon Copy Cloner completed the clone but reported an error. I looked at the log and it reported that it was having an input/output error on my FileVault sparsebundle. I ran Disk Utility's First Aid on my MacBook and backup disk and both passed. I then tried to mount the sparsebundle, which worked, and then ran First Aid on its volume. It also passed.<br />
<br /><br /><br />
Thus the first hint, Carbon Copy Cloner (and the rsync utility it uses) can identify disk issues that First Aid and Time Machine miss/ignore.<br />

<p>The invention, filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on June 14th, 2010, would synchronize data for offline use when an Internet connection is not available.</p>
