Macromedia and Project Cool Launch Web Site Design Contest

New York, N.Y. - December 8, 1997 - Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR), today
announced that Dreamweaver, the first visual Web authoring tool created
for Web development professionals is now shipping for Windows and
Macintosh. With Dreamweaver, Web professionals experience the power and
productivity of a visual tool with the control and flexibility of an HTML
text editor. Dreamweaver is also the first HTML editor with in-depth
support for cross-browser dynamic HTML. Since the Dreamweaver beta was
released in October, over 80,000 downloads have been recorded from the
Dreamweaver Web site, www.dreamweaver.com. To celebrate the shipping of
Dreamweaver, Macromedia and Project Cool have launched the Dreamweaver Web
site design contest.

Top Web design firms such as Digital Planet and Box Top Interactive have
already incorporated Dreamweaver into their day-to-day production schedule
while several sites including HotWired, Merrill Lynch and Discovery Channel
Online started using Dreamweaver to redesign their Web sites, examples of
which are currently available at www.dreamweaver.com.

"Dreamweaver has some of the most powerful features we've seen in a Web
design tool," states Kurt Kochman, vice president of production at Box Top
Interactive, an award winning Web design firm based in Los Angeles. "It
offers significant advantages over working in text editors, while still
giving us complete control over the HTML source code. Designers can now
spend more time being creative and less time thinking about HTML."

Many Internet professionals have rejected the current generation of visual
HTML editors-preferring to stay with text editors-because these tools make
significant changes to imported HTML. The Dreamweaver engineering team
built the product on a foundation that preserves the integrity of original
HTML source. The underlying Roundtrip HTML technology allows developers to
switch back and forth between their current HTML source editor and
Dreamweaver without fear of changes to their original HTML. Macromedia,
Project Cool Launch Dreamweaver Contest To celebrate Dreamweaver's launch,
