Each villus has a rich blood supply to carry away absorbed food particles and covered with protective mucus. The villi increase the surface area of the lining many times. This allows the small intestine to absorb digested pooj much more rapidly. Villi start as flattened foids, seen here, at the upper end of the small intestine, and change to become more finger-like nearer the lower end. Villi SMALI
