SIERRA FAMILY DEMONSTRATION CD-ROM VERSION 2.0 8/26/93
Welcome to the first Sierra demonstration CD-ROM. This CD-ROM
contains most of the Sierra family product demos that are currently
available, assembled in an easy to use menu system. Most current
Sierra family products are represented here. Every product includes a
full-screen high resolution, full color image and description, and
many include demonstration programs you can run.
Several of the demos are fully interactive mini-games. Some of the
must-see demos are King's Quest VI for CD-ROM, Betrayal at Krondor,
Gabriel Knight, The Even More Incredible Machine, Ready Set Read,
Outpost, and Gobliiins. Of course, we suspect you'll want to check
out all the available demos under the "Now Available" and "Coming
Soon" sections. You'll find many hours of entertainment and enjoyment
from all of the demos and other product information contained on this
CD-ROM.
We have configured most of the demos to run directly from the CD-ROM.
Since many of these demos were not designed to run from a read-only
directory, some will not operate unless they are first copied to the
hard disk. In each of these cases, you are prompted with information
about the hard disk space requirements, and whether you want the demo
to be moved to the hard disk. In all cases, the demos will be
installed in the C:\SIERRA\DEMOCD directory. This cannot be changed.
We have created this demo CD in direct response to requests from our
customers. This is the second release. The premiere edition was
distributed to a limited audience as part of the company's annual
report.
This updated version 2.0 contains several additional demos, fixes
numerous minor errors in the first release, improves compatibility
with a wider number of systems configurations, and provides many other
minor improvments and new features.
Additional copies of this CD-ROM are available from your favorite
software retailer, or can be ordered directly from Sierra by calling
1-800-326-6654. Call for the latest price and availability.
We plan to update this Demo CD on a regular basis, insuring that it
always contains information and the latest demos on our most current
products. Due to the nature of its pricing and distribution, it will
not be possible to provide reduced price upgrades to owners of current
versions of the Demo CD.
We welcome your feedback on this Demo CD. Send your comments to:

VESA COMPATIBILITY
The demo menuing system is designed to take advantage of the hires
graphics capability of a VESA compatible VGA display adapter. The
graphics menuing system will be replaced with text menus if your card
is not VESA compatible. Also some of the demos are only available
with a VESA compatible card.
Most new graphics cards are VESA compatible, and many existing cards
can run VESA software with the appropriate driver. Check out the
information and drivers in the VESA directory if your card does not
have native VESA support. In addition, your card must have at least
512k of video memory for VESA compatibility.
If your graphics card is not capable of any VESA support, even with a
driver, now would be a great time to think about upgrading. Many of
the new products soon to be released from Sierra will require VESA
compatibility to access the highest quality graphics and most advanced
features.
ABOUT PERFORMANCE
All the demos on this CD-ROM run directly from the CD-ROM. However,
many of these demos were designed for operation from a hard disk.
Therefore, the performance may not accurately reflect the actual
performance of the product. This is especially true if your CD-ROM
drive has a slower 150kb/sec transfer rate, as opposed to the newer
"double-speed" drives with 300kbyte/sec transfer rate. Please take
this CD-ROM performance degradation into account when viewing these
demos.
For most demos, it is possible to copy the directory containing the
demo to your hard disk to improve display performance. Please note
that some of these directories are very large, so check the size
before attempting to copy it. Some also contain subdirectories, which
must be copied for proper operation.
In most cases, the demo can be run directly from the game subdirectory
by typing DEMO from within that directory. See the README file in
each subdirectory for additional information. Many demos depend on
the required setup files being present in the C:\SIERRA\DEMOCD
directory. The main DEMO program initially creates this subdirectory
and each demo uses it to store system-dependent configuration
information.
OTHER DEMOS
There are some demos on the CD-ROM that cannot be accessed from the
menus. In some cases, the demos were designed for in-store use so
they loop and provide no means to exit other than by rebooting the
system. In other cases, the demo may need to be copied to a hard disk
to allow sound options to be configured, or to run with proper
performance.
All the demos are contained in the SIERRA, BRGHTSTR, DYNAMIX, and
COKTEL directories. You are welcome to manually access the demo
directories and copy them to a hard disk if you want to experiment
with those demos that are not available through the menu system. Most
demos can be run by switching to the appropriate subdirectory and
typing DEMO. See the README file in each subdirectory for additional
information. Many demos depend on the required setup files being
present in the C:\SIERRA\DEMOCD directory. The main DEMO program
initially creates this subdirectory and each demo uses it to store
system-dependent configuration information.
This Demo CD has little in the way of documentation for these
additional demos, and it is not possible for our customer support
department to provide assistance in accessing these demos. However,
we included them just in case you want to explore and experiment on
your own.
