SDISK
By: John L. Vandegrift
SDISK takes the directory of the diskette in the default
drive, sorts it and writes it back to the diskette in sorted
order. You must use the version of SDISK that corresponds to your
version of DOS. SDISK1 is only for DOS 1.1 and will sort single
or double sided 8 sector disks. SDISK2 is only for DOS 2.0 and
will sort the directory for single sided or double sided, 8 or 9
sector disks. SDISK checks the format of the diskette before
sorting the directory and will display an error message and exit
if it encounters a disk not formatted under the correct operating
system.
The advantage of this program over SDIR is that once done,
this command does not have to be repeated until a file is added or
renamed on the diskette. The standard DIR command will list the
directory in sorted order because SDISK puts them in that order.
However you must use SDIR if you wish to sort by extension, size,
or date.
Diskettes with the two hidden DOS files can also be
sorted, as SDISK leaves these two files in the place where DOS
expects to find them. All other file directory entries are sorted,
whether the directory entry is a normal file, hidden file or
deleted file. Deleted files are placed at the end of the active
files automatically, although they remain deleted. Hard disk
directories and sub-directories cannot be sorted with SDISK.
