RUNNING WIZARD'S LAIR I
WL-I may be run either from floppy or from hard disk. Read the appropriate
section below, depending on your computer configuration:
Before running WL-I, I would STRONGLY advise backing up both disks.
I. FROM FLOPPY
1. Insert the diskette labeled 'PROGRAM DISK' into the floppy drive.
2. At the A: prompt, enter 'WL1' and press <CR>.
3. After the program has loaded and the title screen appears, you will
be prompted to remove the program disk from the drive and insert the
disk labeled 'DATA DISK'. From then on, leave the data disk in the drive.
If you decide to save your games to this disk (recommended), just press
<CR> when the system prompts you to insert your saved game disk.
II. FROM THE HARD DRIVE
1. Make a suitable subdirectory on your hard drive, i.e.
cd \ <cr>
md wl1 <cr>
cd wl1 <cr>
When you are positioned in the proper subdirectory for the game, insert
the diskette labeled 'PROGRAM DISK' into the diskette drive. At the
prompt, enter:
copy a:*.* <cr>
When all files from the PROGRAM DISK are copied, replace it with the
diskette labeled 'DATA DISK'. Enter:
copy a:*.* <cr>
WL-I is then run by entering 'WL1' and pressing <CR>.

STARTING UP
To run WL-I, position yourself in the game's subdirectory (if running
from hard disk), or insert the PROGRAM DISK into drive a:, and enter
wl1 <cr>
You will be asked to enter the difficulty factor from 1-5 (1 is the
easiest, 5 most difficult), whether you are using a color monitor,
and whether you are resuming a saved game or starting a brand new one.
If resuming a saved game, another window will appear giving the default
drive and file name. You may change the drive by pressing A-H. You
can change the file name for the saved file by first pressing the
spacebar and then entering the new filename via the keyboard. Press
<CR> when finished. To continue, press <CR> to resume the game.
note: each saved game requires about 2500 bytes, so be sure you
have enough room on the diskette for multiple saved games.
On the Data Disk is a default saved game file called WL1.SAV. It
contains a beginning party for you to learn the game system. They
are average adventurers, so you will probably want to eventually create
your own when you "get serious".
When starting a new game, you will be sent immediately to the Adventurer's
Guild where you can create a party of up to eight characters.

DOCUMENTATION FILES
-- MANUAL.DOC Explains Things
The game is similar to other fantasy role-playing games, so many things
should be intuitively obvious. The manual is fairly long, but some things
can be displayed during gameplay.
The commands can be displayed during gameplay by pressing '?'.
Local terrain icons can be displayed by pressing F8.
The party may be printed out by pressing F6. Make sure your printer is
properly attached or the system may hang!!
-- ADVICE.DOC Some general purpose advice and tips
-- REGIS.DOC Registration Information, Obtaining Maps, Hints, Etc.
-- FEATURES.DOC Contains information regarding last minute changes or
additions to the program. READ THIS ONE IMMEDIATELY
as anything in it supercedes the manual where there is
a contradiction
Also on this disk (Program Disk) are several files with the .PAG
extension. These are one-page documents useful for quick reference
during gameplay. Print as usual using the DOS Print command.
The programs with the .DOC extension can also be printed via the DOS Print
command.
