  5. Purpose        : Provide instructions and information for the use of
  6.           STACDOS5.BAT.  This batch file is to be used by 
  7.           STACKER customers to upgrade their DOS version to 
  8.           MS DOS 5.0. 
  9.  
  10.  
  11. Assumptions: 
  12. 1) STACKER is installed on your hard drive and the compressed 
  13.    volume is mounted.
  14.  
  15. 2) There is insufficient umcompressed disk space available for 
  16.    installation of the MS DOS 5.0 upgrade via the conventional 
  17.    SETUP program.  Approximately 2.8 Mbytes are required.
  18.  
  19. 3) A STACKER program directory exists on the compressed volume.  
  20.    This directory contains key STACKER program files that will be     
  21.    used during the update process.
  22.  
  23. 4) A DOS directory exists on the compressed volume. This update 
  24.    process will place the DOS 5.0 files into this directory.
  25.  
  26. 5) The MS DOS 5.0 upgrade diskette set is available for use 
  27.    during installation.

  30. Instructions:
  31. 1) The batch file and it's companion program must be run from the    
  32.    STACKER directory on the compressed volume.  Copy the
  33.    following files to the STACKER directory; STACDOS5.BAT and 
  34.    VIDTYPE.EXE. 
  35.  
  36. 2) Run the batch file STACDOS5.BAT from the STACKER directory on 
  37.    the compressed volume.  You will need to provide the following 
  38.    information, in this order,  for successful operation;
  39.    * The drive letter to install from (A, B, A: or B:),
  40.    * The drive letter for the STACKER volume with the DOS      
  41.      directory, 
  42.    * The name of the DOS directory on the STACKER volume.
  43.  
  44.    These items are operating parameters for STACDOS5 and are 
  45.    placed on the command line folowing the batch file name as in 
  46.    this example:

  48.                 STACDOS5  A:  C:  \DOS
  49.  
  50. 3) Follow the instructions presented during the operation of the    
  51.    STACDOS5 batch file.  You may be directed to make a correction 
  52.    before continuing with the update process.

  56. Additional Information:
  57. This update process performs several steps to complete the upgrade
  58. of your DOS version to DOS 5.0:
  59.  
  60.   * Directs you to insert the proper DOS 5.0 upgrade diskette in 
  61.     the order required to decompress and distribute the DOS 5.0 
  62.     files.
  63.  
  64.   * Copies the updated device driver files used with Microsoft's 
  65.     WINDOWS to their expected locations.
  66.  
  67.   * Starts the Microsoft SETUP program to complete the update of 
  68.     the DOS internal data structures on your hard drive.
  69.  
  70.   * After a reboot of your computer system, restores your 
  71.     AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.

  74. If you should encounter an error condition, follow the instructions presented
  75. on the screen.  Possible errors conditions include:
  76.  
  77.   * STACDOS5 is unable to run because you have a DOS version     
  78.     earlier than DOS 3.1.
  79.  
  80.   * STACDOS5 is unable to run because not enough DOS environment
  81.     space is available.   
  82.  
  83.   * STACDOS5 is unable to locate key files needed to complete the 
  84.     update process.  
  85.  
  86.   * STACDOS5 is unable to distribute the MS DOS 5.0 files because     
  87.     your disk is full.
  88.
