  9. NEW ADDITIONS TO MicroMenu:

  18.      Because MicroMenu is used by many first time computer users as well
  19.      as advanced users, we have added an easy to use DOS editor as part
  20.      of the Configuration Menu.
  21.  
  22.      We have also expanded the original DOS Command Editor to include  
  23.      many new features.  Users can specify which Editor they want to use
  24.      by a selection in the Configuration Menu.
  25.      
  26.      When MicroMenu is first started, it defaults to the Easy DOS EDitor.
  27.      If you are an existing user and have already created some (D)OS 
  28.      options in MicroMenu with the DOS Command Editor, you will be given a
  29.      warning and the opportunity to Edit those options with the new
  30.      advanced editor.  Of course, if you want to have MicroMenu default
  31.      to the advanced editor you can make that selection from the
  32.      Configuration Menu.

  34.      The Color selection area has also been updated.  Now, when you want
  35.      to change the colors on the different menus, the changes will be seen
  36.      immediately.  The small "Color Box" no longer appears since it's not
  37.      necessary any more.  Instead, the screen is updated instantly as you
  38.      press the up, down and side arrow keys.  Pressing <Esc> aborts any
  39.      single change and you still have the opportunity to save or not save 
  40.      the new colors.

  42.      The Audit trail that is created through the Configuration Menu now
  43.      records more information and writes to a standard comma delimited
  44.      file format.  It should be a lot easier to import into Lotus 1-2-3
  45.      or dBase to do reports and such.

  50. EASY EDITOR:
  51.  
  52.      If you are new to computing, some of the commands you have to give
  53.      to get your computer to work may seem confusing.  Most of the programs
  54.      you will be using can be executed quite easily by using MicroMenu's
  55.      new EASY EDITOR.
  56.      
  57.      When you first start up MicroMenu, follow the instructions on the 
  58.      screen by approving or modifying the DATE and TIME.  You will then
  59.      see a message announcing a "Blank Page", press the ENTER key to
  60.      continue with the installation.
  61.      
  62.      You will be asked for a Title for the Main Menu Header.  Enter your 
  63.      Company name or anything else you want then press the ENTER key again.
  64.      Next, you will be asked for a Name for the Option.  This would be the
  65.      name of the program you want to run (use upper and lower case letters
  66.      as you would like to see it on the Menu).

  68.      The next question asks if it is to be a (M)enu or a (D)OS option.  A
  69.      Menu option will branch to a Blank Page which can contain nine (9)
  70.      additional options and a DOS option will run a program.  Select "D"
  71.      for DOS and a new screen will appear.

  73.      The first question asks for the drive letter of the hard disk drive
  74.      that contains your program.  Usually this is drive C for a single
  75.      user system or F for a Novell local area network.  Enter the correct
  76.      drive letter.

  80.      Next, the subdirectory that the program is in is requested.  Enter the 
  81.      name of the subdirectory.

  85.      Finally, the name of the program you want to run is asked for.  Enter
  86.      the name of the program.  Enter the file name only, DO NOT enter the
  87.      extension.  (MicroMenu looks for ".COM", ".EXE" and ".BAT" files in 
  88.      that order automatically).

  92.      If you have made a mistake with the spelling, or if the program does
  93.      not exist, you will receive a warning, otherwise you will be asked to 
  94.      Save your selection.  Press "Y" and everything will be saved for you.

  99. ADVANCED DOS EDITOR:
  100.  
  101.      If you have a good working knowledge of the Disk Operating System (DOS),
  102.      you may want to use the ADVANCED EDITOR to create your batch files.  It
  103.      is a full screen editor capable of importing and/or exporting text from
  104.      existing files, cutting and pasting text within and/or between menus,
  105.      deleting or inserting lines and many other advanced features.
  106.      
  107.      To use the ADVANCED EDITOR press the F9 key to Edit MicroMenu.  Scroll
  108.      to the Configuration option and press Enter or press the number "8" on
  109.      the top row of your keyboard.  The Configuration will appear on the right
  110.      side of your screen.  Scroll down to the question "Easy Editor Mode?" and 
  111.      press the "N" for "No".  Finally, press the <Esc> key and save your new 
  112.      configuration.

  114.      If you need additional help, press the F1 key while you are editing a
  115.      (D)OS option and a help screen will appear with all the keystroke
  116.      features.

  119. SIMPLIFIED COLOR MODIFICATION
  120.      
  121.      When you select "Modify Colors" from the "Edit MicroMenu" menu the same
  122.      selection menu will appear, however, when you select the color you want
  123.      to change the selection menu will disappear and the message in the lower
  124.      information box will instruct you to use the cursor movement keys to
  125.      change the colors.  The changes will be shown on the screen immediately.
  126.      
  127.        (i.e. If you select the "Screen Background", the color of the screen
  128.         background will change everytime you press a cursor movement key.)

  130.      Follow the directions to save your changes.

  137. FORMATTED AUDIT TRAIL

  140.      The Audit trail now writes the following information to a comma delimited
  141.      file called "UserName.AUD" (where UserName is the LOGIN name in a network
  142.      environment or "MM" in a single user environment):
  143.        
  144.           1.    the DATE in "MM-DD-YY" format
  145.           2.    the TIME in "HH:MM" format
  146.           3.    the MENU name where the action took place
  147.           4.    the ACTION that took place
  148.                 the ACTION COMMANDS are as follows:
  149.                      a.    "ADD a menu option
  150.                      b.    "EDIT a menu option
  151.                      c.    "DELETE a menu option
  152.                      d.    "EXIT" to DOS
  153.                      e.    "EXECUTE" a program
  154.                      f.    "RETURN" from a program
  155.                      g.    "SHELL" to DOS
  156.                      h.    "CONFIG" modify the configuration
  157.           5.    the name of the PROGRAM that was executed (if one was)
  158.           
  159.      There are always 5 fields to every line in the audit trail record listed
  160.      in this same order.  All the information is stored in standard ASCII
  161.      TEXT MODE enclosed in quotes and the fields are seperated by commas.
  162.      Every line is properly terminated with a carriage return and a line feed
  163.      (ASCII 12 and ASCII 10).
  164.      
  165.      The ACTION COMMANDS are always uppercase and are the fourth field from
  166.      the start of the line.  The PROGRAM name is only printed after the
  167.      EXECUTE action command is used, otherwise a blank field is generated.

  169.      EXAMPLE OF THE FIELD STRUCTURE:

  173.      In the example, the first field contains the current date,
  174.                      the second, the current time,
  175.                      the third, the DOS name of the menu where the action
  176.                           took place (in this case SSHEET, the spreadsheet
  177.                           sub menu),
  178.                       the fourth, the action that took place, and
  179.                       the fifth, the name of the program that was executed.
