Now that that's out of the way I can get down to the business of telling you
how to begin using K-Free.
Manual Installation of K-Free
The first thing that you need to do copy the file: KFREE.INI to your Windows
directory. This file contains several parameters that K-Free uses when
starting. If the file can't be found one will be created when you close
K-Free.
For now, don't worry about the settings within the KFREE.INI file. The
default settings should serve to get you started.
Copy the files: KFREE.EXE & DELIB.DLL to a directory of your choice (the
Windows directory is a good place). KFREE.EXE is the program file and
DELIB.DLL is a Dynamic Link Library that K-Free needs in order to run
properly.
Semi-Automatic Installation of K-Free
Included with K-Free is the batch file: INSTALL.BAT. This batch file will
copy all the files needed to run K-Free into the directory specified on the
INSTALL command line.
To begin installation execute INSTALL with the command:
INSTALL <dir>
where <dir> is the full pathname to your Windows directory. For example:
INSTALL C:\WINDOWS
would cause INSTALL to put all the K-Free files into a directory called
WINDOWS on drive C:.
Please be sure that the directory you specify exists before you run INSTALL.
If the directory does not exist INSTALL will fail and K-Free will not be
installed properly.
Starting K-Free
You can start K-Free by double clicking on KFREE.EXE from either the File
Manager or the MSDOS Executive. K-Free will come up in the upper left hand
corner of the screen and will automatically display available memory and free
disk space on the current drive.
