********************* MORE SOFTWARE from Dave Bushong **********************
.
The following shareware programs are featured in "The Virus Handbook"
(Osborne/McGraw-Hill, 1990) and are available from the author.
.
LOCKUP - keeps others out of your hard disk. Run the program, and it creates
a "key" diskette which contains a password. Then, it disables your hard disk
so that no one else can read it. You can still share your system if you want,
but guests must bring their own software on diskettes, because your hard disk
is not accessible. Without that special floppy, DEBUG, FDISK, FORMAT, etc.
can't find your hard disk! When you are ready to use your system, insert the
"key" floppy, switch the PC on, and everything is back to normal. You can
disable one or both of your hard drives, as you prefer. (TC)
.
FATSO - File Allocation Table Security Option. Lets you save copies of your
FAT, Partition table, and/or boot sector to a floppy in case something (or
someone) "accidentally" erases or damages it. This is one piece of software
that ANYONE WHO DOWNLOADS FROM BBS SYSTEMS MUST HAVE! (TC)
.
LOCK - a software version of the AT front panel lock. Put this program in
your AUTOEXEC and no one can do anything when they boot your system. Run it
when you step out for a cup of coffee. Only those who know the secret can
resume processing! (TC)
.
PROTECT - Why don't hard disks have write protect tabs? This program solves
that problem. You can protect and unprotect your hard disk (one at a time, or
all), any time you feel like it. If any program (a virus, maybe?) changes the
INT 13 vector, which is how most virus programs work, PROTECT will put it back
where it belongs. (TC)
.
PARK - Put those sensitive moving parts in your hard drive to their safe
place, just like the manufacturer says to. There are a zillion programs that
park to the test cylinder, but this one lets you specify where to park it.
Seagate drive owners can now put the heads at the right place - far away from
the data! Works with all brands of hard drives. (TC)
.-------------------------------------------------
.Other programs available:
.
ESTIMATE - a good way to estimate how you can send data fastest through a
packet network. This program was written for amateur ("ham") packet radio,
but would be useful for estimating Telenet, Tymnet, etc. data rates. Network
administrators should have this one. (Z+)
.
NAME - a mini, quickie, logbook program. Uses about 32K of RAM. Also useful
as a general purpose database program (salesmen: log those customers and
recall the details anytime!). (C)
.
COMTOHEX - embed binary code in your 'C' source file. Useful for securely
encrypting password decoders, user accounts, etc. (TC)
.
DBIT - Is your file too big to transfer? Afraid of dropping the carrier near
the end of file transfer? Take that big file and "DB" it. DBIT will chop up
the file so that you can send a bunch of small pieces over the modem (or via
packet radio!). Then, when the other guy gets all the pieces, the program
will put itself together automatically! (Z+)
.
TYPE.C - The 'c' subroutine that you are using now. You call it with a file
name and it displays it in a window on the screen, using UP, DOWN, Home, End,
PgUp, and so on. Really useful for DOC files. For example, you could make a
file called README.EXE by compiling this one-liner 'C' program:
.main(){type("readme.doc",0,0,24,79);}
.
MINIAU - For most users, this is the minimum IAU program. A couple-dozen
lines of 'C' code (the part that actually does the work) and you can
non-destructively change the interleave to the best value!
.
.-------------------------------------------------
.
Oh yes - I forgot the best part! THE REGISTERED VERSIONS OF THESE PROGRAMS
COME WITH THE SOURCE CODE (and registration is cheap, by the way)! Key: (TC)
means compile with Turbo 'C'; (C) means most 'C' compilers will work; (Z+)
means Zortech C++ compiler.

.Shareware programs float all over the world for years (IAU is a good example
of that!), so 1991 prices might not do you much good. So here is the deal: If
you want ALL the programs listed above (plus more, by now), SEND WHAT YOU THINK
IT'S WORTH in U.S. funds to the above address. If the current price is close
to the amount you send, you'll get the software. If it's not enough, you will
get a price list (but you'll still get the software). If you send too much,
you'll get a refund or credit slip with the software (but you'll still get the
software). Remember, all source code is included!
