sides of your monitor than from
the front. There is some
research linking ELF exposure to
cancer, leukemia and pregnancy
complications. There is some
as yet unproven speculation that
ELF can cause cataracts. The
good news is that the ELF field
strength decreases quickly as
one moves farther away from a
monitor. Beyond two feet away,
its practically non-existent.
(3.5' from the sides and back of
the monitor). So, sit at least
24" away from your monitor and
you will probably be quite safe.
Stay farther away if you can.

Unfortunately, many so-call-
ed 'computer desks' are designed
so that your keyboard must be
very near the monitor and so you
cannot get away. Sorry about
that. Perhaps you can arrange
something with phonebooks,
folding chairs, etc, and NOT use
the desk as it was intended.
Lead aprons, aluminum foil, and
copper, glass or plastic screens
in front of the monitor do not
seem to help much. Your
protection is simply distance.
Keep in mind that your
monitor is just like a tele-
vision. The same rule applies,
