1.0 INTRODUCTION
Cunning Football is a dynamic, interactive, menu driven football
game. It tests both skill and strategy, requiring a user to
guide players as well as call plays. The program requires an IBM
compatible computer with an EGA adapter. Cunning Football runs
best on systems with 256K or more available RAM, but it may work
with less. Future versions of the game will allow use of a mouse
or joy-stick, but for now, the keypad is used as the primary
input device.
The game simulates a real football game as closely as possible.
It includes interceptions, penalties, and other subtleties of
football. However, CFB was also designed to be easy to use, so
there are some tradeoffs. Registered users are encouraged to
report bugs or to send comments and suggestions to make the game
more entertaining.
After registering your copy of Cunning Football, you will receive
an extended user's manual along with an expanded playbook. The
manual has detailed explanations of all of the plays.
Future versions will include: mouse and joystick control, on-line
help (with diagrams), modem support for two player games, and
other enhancements to make the game more enjoyable.
CFB is a fun and exciting game oriented toward those of us
football fans who have a relatively good understanding of the
game of football. The user will be the VISITING team and the
program will represent the HOME team. I hope you enjoy Cunning
Football. Good Luck.

2.0 Starting The Game
Before you begin, make sure the files CFB.EXE and CFBPBK.DAT are
in your current directory. Then, to start Cunning Football, type
"CFB" at the DOS prompt. To begin play choose "Leave Setup
Menu." The rest is self-explanatory.
3.0 Calling Plays & Other Commands
Calling a play is a simple, menu assisted procedure. First, you
choose a category or "Play Group." Then, select the desired play
from the "Play Menu." You may issue other commands by choosing
"Special Calls." Selecting "Special Calls" will allow you to
call timeouts, save or retrieve games, or issue several other
useful commands.
4.0 Controlling Player Actions
On Offense, you will control the player with the ball. After the
snap, you will control the QB until you pass or handoff the ball.
After a pass or handoff, you will control the player who receives
the ball. On Defense, you will control the Defensive Captain
(usually the Middle/Inside Linebacker). The Defensive Captain
will appear larger and brighter than the other defensive players.
Using the keypad, you will be able to control the movement of
your player by choosing directions around the "5" key on the
keypad. You will also be able to perform other functions.
To move up, press the "8" key on the keypad.
To move down, press the "2" key on the keypad.
To move left, press the "4" key on the keypad.
To move right, press the "6" key on the keypad.
You may also move diagonally using the "1", "7", "9", & "3"
keys.
On Passing Plays:
To PASS the ball, press the "Ins" key on the keypad.
To Highlight the intended receiver, press the "Enter"
or "+" key on the keypad.
On Outside Toss Plays:
To TOSS the ball, press the "Ins" key on the keypad.
On Inside Running Plays:
To HANDOFF the ball, move the QB to the RB. The RB
will take the ball. Then you control the RB.
On Defense:
To TACKLE the ball carrier, move toward the ball
carrier.
On Placekicks:
To KICK a Field Goal or P.A.T., do NOT move the holder
(QB). The kicker will automatically attempt a
placekick.
Punts and Kickoffs are automatic.
5
The mouse will work, the up, down, left, right movement is
controlled by the mouse.
The left button = ENTER KEY
The middle button = INS KEY (used to release the ball)
The right button = + key (used to identify the receiver)
Instructions: Keep pressing the right button until the
receiver you want to get the ball changes
color. When you select the receiver press
the middle button for the quarter back to
release the ball.
The far left button is the ENTER key used to select options
from the menu.
