- ProgNet - The new Programmer's Network
- INFORMATION & APPLICATION
-
- ProgNet is an attempt by me and several other sysops to try and set up
- a programming-oriented network. We hope to have several BBS's around the country
- within a year, and have fairly active message bases. I am the sysop of a
- programming-oriented BBS, and I'd like it if my users could discuss their
- programming ideas, etc. with users across the country (possibly even world-
- wide someday).
- The rules for the new network will be as follows:
- * No handles. Programming is a serious topic. We
- should be able to discuss this type of thing
- without the use of names like "LL Cool J" or
- "Psycho-phreak."
- * Keep discussions within the conferences on-topic.
- * All network business and suggestions must be
- handled in the Admin conference (open to ALL).
- * No profanity. All the messages on this network
- will be PUBLIC.
-
- There is presently no "council" or "guidance committee" at this time,
- the only person who has authority in this network at this time is yours truly,
- Gregory Arena (though I'm not going to be a tyrant).
-
- Here's the list of conferences that I've put together. Anybody who'd
- like to see more added can send me a message on the system listed below.
-
- Central - Network chit-chat conference \ Required on ALL
- Admin - Network administration conference / systems.
- General - General programming conference
- Pascal - Self-explanatory
- C - Self-explanatory
- BASIC - Self-explanatory
- Assembly - Self-explanatory
- FORTRAN - Self-explanatory
- COBOL - Self-explanatory
- dBase - Having to do with Ashton Tate's dBase programming
- language
- Clipper - Self-explanatory
- Database - Generic discussion on database programming
- Compiler - Discussions having to do with commercial and shareware
- compilers.
-
- More will be added later on, and any suggestions can be submitted by the
- general public in the Admin conference. We may also start sharing files across
- the network as well.
-
- Sysops interested in joining, see the application accompanying this file.
- We're looking for hubs and regionals right now; I'd prefer systems with high-
- speed modems (such as HST's and Dual-Standard's) be hubs or regionals, but
- anybody desiring to be a hub/regional will be taken under consideration. Not
- everybody can be a hub, we need a couple of nodes, too.
-
- BBS Users who want to start using this network, refer to the enclosed
- (presently VERY SHORT) listing of the ProgNet BBS's.
-
- Hope to see 'yall on the network soon!
