-
- Farkle is a dice game meant to be played by 2 to 9 players. It is our
- belief here a MightySoft that companionship is a healthy, under practiced
- art that should be encouraged. If you are one that can in no wise stand
- the presence of another human being, registration of this product will get
- you a version of this game where you can play against the computer. It will
- also remove the registration request at the top of the play screen.
-
- If you are one of many that continue to use shareware products without
- registering your copy, that's OK by me. But somewhere, someday when you
- least expect it, someone may come up to you and say, "Smile, your on the
- SPA's list."
-
- Farkle requires the use of a mouse and VGA display adapter in order to
- function properly. If you have one of those wierd computers that gives non-
- standard return values for the configuration polling interrupt request, I
- have added a user responce bypass to allow you to continue.
-
- For the most part Farkle is mouse driven. However, there are some valid
- keypresses for certain function request. They are as follows...
-
- <ALT+S> toggles sound on/off
- <Esc> quit game <confirmation required>
- <B> DOS shell for an unexpected boss
- <F1> about Farkle
-
- The <Esc> and <B> keypresses can also be accomplished by clicking on a
- box in the top left and top right of the play screen. If you are familiar
- with Windows, you should have no trouble as to which is which. If not, the
- quit request button is the one with a bar in it. The boss box has a B.
-
- As the introduction screen conveys, Farkle is a shareware product with
- an eight dollar registration request attached. It took some time and effort
- to make this game available, and I feel is well worth the investment. If
- you don't like it and want to get even with me, register it anyway. Getting
- any money in the mail will be sure to give me a heart attack!!! As an added
- incentive to register I will also send you a disk containing the QuickBASIC
- 4.5 source code for Farkle. Please specify 5¼ or 3½ inch diskette.
-
- After you register your copy of Farkle, you will recieve a version that
- facilitates playing against other people and/or the computer. To play
- against the computer, enter 'COMPUTER' when prompted for the players names.
- The computer will add a number to the end of each COMPUTER player. You may
- have any number of computer players up to the maximum number of players.
- You can designate all the players to be computer players and sit back and
- watch the action.

- ══╣ RULES FOR PLAYING FARKLE ╠═══════════════════════════════════════════════
- ╚══════════════════════════╝
-
-
- *** GAME OBJECTIVE ***
-
- The object of the game of Farkle is to be the first to aquire a score
- equal to or larger than the score limit chosen by the players in the start
- of the game. The score can be chosen by the players in increments of 2,000
- points starting at 2,000 (the lowest) to 10,000 (the highest).
- Scores are obtained by rolling a maximum of six dice and totaling the
- point dice. (Point dice explained later). Some, but not all point dice
- maybe rerolled on a consecutive roll by subtracting them from the display.
- As point dice are rolled, they are removed from play reducing the number
- of dice to roll on your next throw. As the number of dice to roll gets
- smaller, so do the odds of your rolling points. If you throw no point dice,
- you Farkle, and lose the points you've accumulated on that turn, forfeiting
- the dice to the next player.
- When and if you feel your odds of rolling points no longer meet the risk
- of a Farkle, you may pass the dice to the next player. Points you rolled
- up until then will be added to your board score. You are never at risk of
- losing the points passed to the board score.
-
-
- *** ROLLING THE DICE ***
-
- To roll the dice, place the mouse pointer over the box marked 'ROLL' and
- press the left mouse button. A number of dice will appear according to the
- number of dice you have left for that roll. The computer will determine the
- amount of points (if any) these dice represent and will report this figure
- below the dice. Example: ( Points this roll = 200 ). Below this, your board
- score is also displayed (if any).
-
-
- *** SUBTRACTING DICE ***
-
- Sometimes, and as you play you'll get a better understanding, it will be
- to your advantage to remove some of the point dice back to the shuffler to
- be rerolled on your next throw. This increases your odds of rolling points
- and avoiding the dreaded Farkle. You must however, keep at least one point
- die per throw of the dice.
- To remove dice from the display back to the shuffler, move the mouse
- pointer over the box marked 'SUBTRACT' and press the left mouse button.
- Then move the pointer onto the die you wish to remove and again press the
- left mouse button. This removes the die from the display and increases the
- number of dice to reroll on your next throw.
- A box marked 'CLICK HERE WHEN FINISHED' will appear when you click on
- the subtract box. When you complete the task of subtracting dice, place the
- mouse pointer in this box and press the left button again. This will
- complete the subtraction process and update your roll score to it's new
- value.
- Three dice of the same value are concidered points in Farkle. If you are
- subtracting a three of a kind combination, it is only nessasary to click on
- one of the dice of that value. The computer will automatically remove the
- other two. The exception to this rule involves one's and six's, which are
- point dice individually as well as triples.
-
-
- *** PASSING THE DICE ***
-
- When you are satisfied with the score you've rolled in a turn at the
- dice, you may pass the dice to the next player by placing the mouse pointer
- on the box marked 'PASS' and pressing the left mouse button. Passing the
- dice to the next player will add what ever roll score you have to your
- board score where it will remain secure for the rest of the game.
- In the beginning of the game, you must continue rolling until you score
- at least 750 points. The computer will not let you pass with less score
- than this. After this and on subsequent rolls, you may pass with any amount
- points.
-
-
- *** DISPLAYING EVERYONE'S SCORE ***
-
- If you are wondering how you stand in comparison to the other players in
- scoring, place the mouse pointer on the box marked 'SCORES' for a popup
- window displaying everyone's score at the same time. When finished, press
- the button again to remove the window and continue play. The location of
- the pointer doesn't matter when closing the window. No other action than
- that of closing the window will be performed.

- ══╣ POINT DICE EXPLAINED ╠══════════════════════════════════════════════════
- ╚══════════════════════╝
-
- Naturally not all dice are points. And when subtracting dice, only the
- point dice need to be removed. All others are automatically rerolled. The
- point dice are as follows...
-
- ┌───────┐
- │ │
- │ O │ = 100 points each (exception. See below)
- │ │
- └───────┘
- ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐
- │ │ │ │ │ │
- │ O │ │ O │ │ O │ = 1,000 points for each set of three

- │ O O │ │ O O │ │ O O │ = 600 points for each set of three
- │ O O │ │ O O │ │ O O │
- └───────┘ └───────┘ └───────┘
-
-
- Any three of kind combination are scored as face value times 100. For
- instance, if you roll three fours, they would be worth 400 points. Only
- three dice count. If you roll four fours, only three are counted as points
- with the remaining one being returned to the shuffler.
-
- ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐

- One die of each value rolled in a single throw scores 1,500 points.
