  20. The Token Ring Remote Monitoring MIB Working Group is chartered to
  21. produce a new MIB specification that extends the facilities of the
  22. existing Remote Monitoring (RMON) MIB (RFC 1271) for use in monitoring
  23. IEEE 802.5 Token Ring networks.
  24.  
  25. The Token Ring RMON MIB extensions will be developed in the same
  26. architectural framework as the existing Ethernet-based RMON MIB.  The
  27. original RMON MIB architecture was designed with the intention of
  28. incorporating MIB extensions devoted to monitoring other network media
  29. types.  This Token Ring activity is the first attempt at such
  30. integration.

  32. In creating the Token Ring Extensions, the working group will, wherever
  33. possible, conform to terminology and concepts defined by relevant IEEE
  34. standards.  It may be that a MIB devoted to monitoring may need to
  35. expand on the IEEE objects and definitions.  Such modifications will
  36. be accompanied by a detailed rationale.

  38. All work produced by the Token Ring Remote Monitoring Working Group
  39. will be consistent with the existing SNMP network management framework
  40. and standards.
