RED BARON RELEASE NOTES
12/19/90
The following is a list of those items in the program that are not
covered in the manual.
1. Demo tapes for hard drive users.
When you are running Red Baron off the hard drive, you may watch a
demo. On the main menu, press the OTHER OPTIONS button. On the OTHER
OPTIONS menu, press the WATCH DEMO button. A demo of several
different missions will be played in sequence.
You may customize this demo. All tapes which start with DEMO will be
played during the WATCH DEMO sequence (examples: DEMO1, DEMO2,
DEMOMINE, DEMOCOOL, etc.). You may delete any of the DEMO tapes
already stored in the TAPES subdirectory. You may add any of your own
tapes to the WATCH DEMO sequence by naming them DEMOxxxx.
2. Additional buttons on the Realism Panel.
The MID-AIR COLLISIONS button allows you to choose if mid-air
collisions with other airplanes, balloons, and Zeppelins will occur.
If it is off, then you will fly through these obstructions. If it is
on, then a fatal collision will occur whenever you fly into another
aircraft.
The COMBAT LEVEL button allows you to choose the level of difficulty
in combat. There are three settings: EASY, STANDARD, and HARD. On
EASY, your aircraft will never be hit by flak. It is also easier to
score hits against enemy planes (the target size is increased on
EASY). Your airplane can absorb more hits before being seriously
damaged. On STANDARD, your aircraft will take some damage from
flak. Scoring hits against enemies is also a little harder, and your
airplane can absorb less hits. HARD is the most realistic of the
possible settings. The target size of enemy planes is small (as it
was historically-- it encompasses the area occupied by the engine and
the pilot). Flak will do considerable, if not fatal, damage. Your
airplane can absorb less hits than on the other two settings.
3. Permanent Realism Panel settings.
In some instances, you will not be allowed to turn off some realism
settings. As an example, if you have AIRCRAFT MAY BE DAMAGED turned
on, and your airplane is fatally shot up, then you may not set
AIRCRAFT MAY BE DAMAGED to off. When this is the case, the box
corresponding to the setting will be filled with a solid color.
4. Promotions in rank during Career.
These are based off total victories and not score.
