Rise of the Dragon
By: Dynamix/Sierra
Features: VGA 256 Color/Adlib/SB/Roland/Mouse Action
Released By INC
===============
Well I got this game pretty early and got the hang of playing it pretty
quick so I figured I'd write up a helpful little text file with some dox,
hints and a review all in one. Hope everyone gets some use out of it. Maybe
I'll do more of these if the response to this one is good. Gopher gets credit
for the term "Quick-Dox" of course.. hope he doesn't mind my borrowing the
term... I never did see one of his doc files that said Quick Dox (C) Gopher,
so I guess I'll be OK.

I found it best to play this game with a mouse. The left mouse button is used
to manipulate things, and the right is to view things. You will be able to
pick some objects up by clicking the left mouse button on them, holding the
button down, and dragging it across to the lower right hand corner. In that
corner there is a little box with a picture of a man. Drag the object to
that box, release the button, and the object is stored in your inventory.
When you click on the box you can manipulate/view items in your inventory.
You can place items of your inventory onto the man to the right (you). As
you can see he is naked when you start so try to find some clothes and put
them on him. You can use the left button to click and drag items and the
right button to get more information on items, and view them up close, just
live when you are outside of the inventory screen. Some times you have to
move the pointer around and keep clicking more than once on an item to get
the game to respond. I found this a little frustrating, but you will get
used to it. Try to examine and manipulate EVERYTHING you can, as with any
adventure game. Sometimes your pointer will change into a magnifying glass.
Click the left button when it does and you will get a close up view of that
area, and be able to manipulate the objects in that area.
Special Keys and What they Do:
F2 - Sound/Music Toggle
F5 - Save Game
F7 - Restore Game
F9 - Restart Game
F10 - VCR Interface - Let's you Select all of the above,
Plus the following: Detail Level

Difficulty Level
Calibrate Joystick
Running/Quitting: To run the game type install. You can change your grafix
and sound configuration, but it will probably autodetect the correct config.
Move down to option 3, play the game and click or press enter. You can run
the game straight, or see the intro first. Quitting the game is easy - hit
CTRL-ALT-DEL and it'll drop you right into DOS - Nice feature.
Inventory Screen: At the top you see a > and a >>. Clicking on the > makes
a minute pass and clicking on the >> makes an hour pass. (The time and date
are shown at the top of the screen.) Inventory box shows all your items. Man
box on the right shows everything you are equiped with. At the bottom you
can see EXIT and DROP which are self-explanatory.
Using the Gun: When your man is armed, holding down the right button will
bring up a target sight that you can move around with the mouse for as long
as you keep this button pressed. Pressing the left button while holding
down the right will fire your weapon.

Genesis' Quick-Hints
==============================================================================
Get the clothes and the coat, go to the inventory screen and put them on the
man. Now click on the bed and your gun will be uncovered, drag the gun into
your inventory. Move the pointer over to the desk near the window and click
left. Turn the video-phone on and watch your messages. Clicking on the
remote control will bring a close-up of the buttons into view so you can
play your messages. When done viewing messages, click on the disk-drive
looking thing and your ID card will pop out. Grab it by clicking on it, then
turn off your machine. Drag your ammo from the bottom left hand side of the
screen into your inventory. Click on your inventory and then click on the
ammo and drag it over to your gun, release, and your gun is loaded. Do not
arm the man now, but you can do so later by dragging the gun over to the man.
Go to the bathroom and get the first aid kit and repellant from the cabinet
in there. Explore the room some more and see what you can find. When you
are done exploring and are ready to leave, drag the pointer into the black
borders of the sreen and the pointer will turn into an EXIT sign. Click on
Exit to bail. Your outside now, click on the lower left hand side of the
screen when your pointer turns into an EXIT and you go back into the hallway.
Click-left on the down button to the elevator, when the elevator opens, your
front door will shut. Downstairs walk to the train station and click-left
on the map. From here you can select various destinations... I will leave
the rest to you from this point on....

Genesis' Quick-Critique
==============================================================================
My first thoughts: "Fuck!" "Sheeeeeeet!" "Wow!" "Awesome!"
GRAPHICS -
"The 256 color VGA is spectacular. Almost reminds you of an Access Software
adventure game, and in fact it's quite like one in many ways, but better."
SOUND -
"I jumped when the first digitized voice came from my Soundblaster and
startled me. The music, sound effects and digitized voices are fantastic"
CONTROLS -
"Wow, complete mouse control with no typing - I love it."
PLOT -
"Eeerie and futuristic theme and plot. Described best as a Blade-Runner
type mystery. The setting is in Los Angeles in the future. A strange
drug is killing people. You gotta get to the bottom of it. Oh boy."
DIALOGUE -
"The Characters are actually using words like "piss" and "effn'" (Fucken).
This sure is pretty advanced from anything Sierra or Dynamix has ever done
before. This one is defintely not your average kiddie game. Cut-away
screens also pop up now and then showing you the actions and dialogue of
other game characters."
ETC... -
"This game looks like a real winner. It's alot of fun if you're the type
who likes to solve mysteries and shit like that. It's a pretty huge game
but I highly recommend it.
Greets and Thanx to the members of INC for releasing another quality
piece of AMERICAN software.
