BRINGBACK README FILE
This file supplements the information in the BRINGBACK User Guide:
A) NEW FEATURES
B) USING BRINGBACK WITH OTHER MEMORY-RESIDENT PROGRAMS
C) USING COMEBAK WITH A NOVELL NETWORK
A) NEW FEATURES
---------------
A new feature has been added to BringBack which allows COMEBAKR to become
inactive while specified programs are running. After installation, COMEBAKR
will be inactive while the programs VIRUCIDE, COMPRESS, MACE, and SD (Norton
Speed Disk) are running.
To edit the list of programs which deactivate COMEBAKR, run the program
BRINGBAK and select option 1, "Change ComeBack configuration".
B) USING BRINGBACK WITH OTHER MEMORY-RESIDENT PROGRAMS
------------------------------------------------------
BringBack includes the memory-resident programs CMDBAK, COMEBAKR, and
PLAYBAKR. These programs are designed to work with other memory-resident
programs as long as the programs are loaded into memory in the proper order.
If you plan to load other memory-resident programs such as SIDEKICK, MIRROR,
and PC-CACHE, you should consult the user documentation for these products to
ensure that they are loaded into memory in the proper order. (The BringBack
User Guide contains loading order information for CMDBAK, COMEBAKR, and
PLAYBAKR.)
If problems do occur, try running CMDBAK, COMEBAKR, and PLAYBAKR without any
other memory-resident programs installed. Then, reinstall your other
memory-resident programs, one at a time, until the problem occurs again.
This will help identify the conflict.
C) USING COMEBAK WITH A NOVELL NETWORK
--------------------------------------
If you plan to recover deleted, modified, or overwritten files from a Novell
network file server, you must do the following:
1) Make sure that you are logged in to the network before you load COMEBAKR
into memory. This will probably involve placing network login commands
into the AUTOEXEC.BAT file above the COMEBAKR command.
2) Run the configuration program BRINGBACK.EXE.
3) When prompted for the drives on which you want COMEBAK to be active,
include the letters of your network drives in the list (for example,
C,F,G).
4) After you have specified your active network drives (previous step), you
will be prompted for the location of the H_DD_N{\ directory for each
network drive listed. You must specify a path to which you have full
read and write access. (If you are not sure about your access rights,
contact your network administrator.)
5) If you would prefer to save your network file information on a local
drive instead of a network drive, you should not list any network drive
letters in step 3 above. Instead, you should list them when prompted
for other drives which you want to protect. When you do this,
information about deleted, modified, and overwritten network files will
be saved in the H_DD_N{\ directory on the first active drive (from the
list of drives created in step 3).
