RUNNING HOT WIRE UNDER MULTI-TASKING SYSTEMS:
There are several things you can do to ensure that HOT WIRE runs
smoothly under a multi-tasking system such as DESQview or Windows.
The command line option /w can be used to disable certain internal
program operations which may interfere with multi-tasking system
operations. This switch can also be used to attempt resolving
conflicts with other resident software in your system. This switch
has been included in the program information files on the distribution
diskette.
If you plan on performing file transfers between remote machines while
in background operation, you should also set the Pause for
Unsuccessful Copy/Move option to NO, as transmission errors may be
more frequent and responses to these errors will not be available
while HOT WIRE is running in background.
Windows/286 operates only in black and white. If you are using a
color monitor, use the /b command line option to force HOT WIRE to use
only black and white display attributes. This option can be specified
in the HW.PIF file. You may also want to set the auxiliary file tag
option to YES in the General Setup information screen so that tagged
files are easily discernable from untagged files. Also, because HOT
WIRE is a non-Windows application, background file transfers under
Windows/286 is not possible. When transferring files in the
foreground, you may achieve a performance increase by removing the /w
switch from your PIF file.

MODEM CONNECTIONS, FLOPPY DISK DRIVES, AND TIMEOUT ERRORS:
When using HOT WIRE between two machines connected through modems, the
time required for a machine to receive transmitted data can vary
depending on the type of telecommunications circuitry being used.
This is especially true on packet-switched networks. HOT WIRE comes
with a predefined set of timeout values used during remote
communications. If you are experiencing data transmission errors due
to telecommunications delays, you should use the /t command line
option to increase the amount of time that HOT WIRE will wait for data
to be successfully received.
If you are connected to another machine directly or through modems,
and are running HOT WIRE from a floppy disk drive or performing any
disk I/O operations on a floppy disk drive, you may also experience
timeout errors. Using the /t command line option should correct any
problems you are experiencing.

PRINTER OVERRUN ERRORS:
If HOT WIRE is sending information to your printer faster than your
printer can process it, you will experience frequent write fault
errors. This problem can be corrected by using a printer spooler.

RUNNING HOT WIRE WITH DISK CACHING SOFTWARE:
Certain disk caching software such as the PC-Kwik(tm) Disk Accelerator
can cause occasional transmission errors in HOT WIRE. If possible,
you can try different configurations of your disk caching software to
correct the problem. With PC-Kwik, the problem can be corrected by
installing the cache with the /c- command line option for generic
support of hard disk transfers.
PC-Kwik is a trademark of Multisoft Corporation.
