  1.  CopyWrite supports  all of the  IBM PS/2 models  except
  2.  those with a speed of 33 Mhz.
  3.  
  4.  Listed below are notes regarding this edition, which do
  5.  not appear  in the printed  manual.  We  recommend that
  6.  you  print this  file  and keep  it  with your  printed
  7.  manual.

  10.  AUSTRALIA NEWS

  12.  An  Australian,  Mr.   Anthony  C  Harvey,  is  selling
  13.  counterfeit copies of our software.
  14.  
  15.  He  has advertised  using  our  company name.   He  has
  16.  printed labels  and manuals duplicating  the appearance
  17.  of our  products, and  he has  negotiated cheques  made
  18.  payable to Quaid  Software Ltd.  We are  pursuing civil
  19.  and criminal remedies against Mr.  Anthony C Harvey.

  21.  Customers in  possession of  counterfeit copies  of our
  22.  software  obtained  from  Mr.    Anthony  C  Harvey  or

  34.  UNGUARD AND EVERLOCK.
  35.  
  36.  Starting with  the November 1988 edition  the "Unguard"
  37.  utility  now  UNPROTECTS  diskettes  protected  by  the
  38.  Everlock copy protection system by AZ-TECH.
  39.  
  40.  Rescue was  developed to  remove copy  protection.  For
  41.  those familiar with the Unguard utility, Rescue is used
  42.  the same way.  Instructions on  the use of "Rescue" are
  43.  listed below.
  44.  
  45.  RESCUE AND TWO FLOPPY DISKETTE DRIVE SYSTEMS.
  46.  
  47.  For  two  drive  systems you  will  need  the  original
  48.  program diskette,  and a blank formatted  diskette that
  49.  will be referred to as the Rescued backup diskette.
  50.  
  51.  ■  PUT A WRITE PROTECT TAB ON YOUR ORIGINAL DISKETTE.
  52.  
  53.  ■  Insert your  CopyWrite diskette  into Drive  A:, and
  54.     the Rescued backup diskette into drive B:.
  55.  
  56.  ■  To start the Rescue program,  at the DOS prompt type
  57.     "a:rescue" [enter].  Once Rescue  has loaded, remove
  58.     your CopyWrite  diskette from drive A:,  and replace
  59.     it with the program diskette.
  60.  
  61.  ■  The  cursor  will  point  to  the  function  "Source
  62.     drive".  If the  Source drive is NOT set  to a:, use
  63.     the [+] [-] keys to change it to a:.
  64.  
  65.  ■  Using the  cursor down  key move  the cursor  to the
  66.     function  "Source  product", and  enter  the  source
  67.     product  name  from  the  list  included  with  your
  68.     CopyWrite package.
  69.  
  70.  ■  Using the  cursor down  key move  the cursor  to the
  71.     function "Target drive".  Using the  [+] or [-] keys
  72.     change the target drive to b:.
  73.  
  74.  ■  Using the  cursor down  key move  the cursor  to the
  75.     function "Strip copy protection" and press the enter
  76.     key.
  77.  
  78.  As Rescue processes the copy protected program, it will
  79.  display the files it reads  from the original diskette,
  80.  and writes to the target.

  82.  A successful Rescue will report:
  83.       Success.
  84.       I have stripped the copy protection.
  85.       Press any key to proceed.

  88.  RESCUE FOR A SINGLE FLOPPY DRIVE AND A HARD DRIVE.
  89.  
  90.  For  this type  of system  it is  recommended that  you
  91.  create a separate subdirectory for the package you want
  92.  to Rescue.   These instructions  make two  assumptions,
  93.  first that your hard drive is  c:, and secondly you are
  94.  not currently running the program  from your hard drive
  95.  already.
  96.  
  97.  ■  Create the subdirectory your  program will be loaded
  98.     into using  the DOS command  mkdir.  If  you already
  99.     have a subdirectory for your program skip this step.
  100.  
  101.  ■  Change to the subdirectory your program will be loaded
  102.     into using the DOS command chdir.
  103.  
  104.  ■  Insert your  CopyWrite diskette  into Drive  A:.
  105.  
  106.  ■  To start the Rescue program,  at the DOS prompt type
  107.     "a:rescue" [enter].  Once Rescue  has loaded, remove
  108.     your CopyWrite  diskette from drive A:,  and replace
  109.     it with the program diskette.

  139.  CopyWrite supports  all of the  IBM PS/2  models except
  140.  those with a speed of 33 Mhz, as well as the Tandy 1000
  141.  computers (EX, SX, HX, and TX)  having a DMA chip ( the
  142.  DMA chip comes with the memory expansion boards), using
  143.  both 5.25"  diskettes, and  3.5" diskettes.   CopyWrite
  144.  will support 3.5" diskettes on  machines other than the
  145.  PS/2 provided their drive designation  is either A:  or
  146.  B:  (this  is required  because CopyWrite  needs direct
  147.  access  to the  floppy  drive  controller card).   This
  148.  means  CopyWrite cannot  support  3.5" diskette  drives
  149.  that  require   device  drivers  to  be   loaded  (i.e.
  150.  driver.sys that comes with DOS 3.2 and later).
  151.  
  152.  Since many  software publishers have abandoned  the use
  153.  of copy protection, there is less requirement to revise
  154.  CopyWrite.   We  no  longer  do   so  monthly,  but  at
  155.  irregular intervals  as changes  in technology  or copy
  156.  protection require.
  157.  
  158. HARDWARE SUPPORTED
  159.  CopyWrite  is   100%  compatible  with   the  following
  160.  computers:
  161.  
  162.      Compaq Portable and Deskpro
  163.      Compaq Portable 286 and Deskpro 286
  164.      Compaq Portable I and II
  165.      IBM PC, PC XT, and PC AT
  166.      IBM PS/2 model 30, 50, 60, 80, 50z, 55, 70
  167.                 ( but not 33 Mhz machines )

  169.      Sperry PC
  170.      Tandy 1000 EX, SX, HX, TX with DMA chips

  175.  We have had  reports that CopyWrite is  also compatible
  176.  with the following  computers.  However, if there  is a
  177.  problem with  CopyWrite on  these computers  we may  be
  178.  unable to duplicate the problem in order to correct it.
  179.  We will  do our best to  solve any problems  with these
  180.  computers:

  196.  Any computer  not listed  above may  not be  compatible
  197.  with  CopyWrite.   Machines that  have  an  Accelerator
  198.  board  are  most likely  incompatible  with  CopyWrite.
  199.  CopyWrite will not copy high density diskettes.  If you
  200.  have a  computer not  listed above  and you  have found
  201.  that  CopyWrite  runs  without problems  on  it  please
  202.  contact  us with  the make  and  model so  that we  can
  203.  inform other customers of its compatiblity.  Thank you.
  204.  
  205. CORRECTIONS TO THE MANUAL
  206.  Fastback and  Concentric Information  Processor are  no
  207.  longer  supported.   Also,  dBase III  version  1.1  is
  208.  backed up  using UnGuard only  and not  using CopyWrite
  209.  and loading Ramkey into memory first.
  210.  
  211. SOFTWARE LIST
  212.  With this edition  of CopyWrite, you should  be able to
  213.  backup your  Prolok 2 and Everlock  protected software.
  214.  To  backup Prolok  2 protected  software you  do it  by
  215.  using  CopyWrite and  then loading  Ramkey into  memory
  216.  before using the backup, or by using UnGuard on each of
  217.  the  .exe files  on  the  program disk.   For  Everlock
  218.  protected software use CopyWrite or Unguard.
  219.  
  220.  Consult  the manual  for  the  full list  of  supported
  221.  programs.   Additions to  the software  list are  shown
  222.  below.

  375.  When unprotecting  this program using  a hard  disk make
  376.  sure you copy the 'install' diskette, 'disk 1', and then
  377.  'disk 2' onto your hard disk  in that order.  Delete the
  378.  file  'tsp.exe' from  you hard  disk.   Run the  unguard
  379.  program using 'tsp.exe' as the source file.
  380.  
  381. Novell Netware v2.11
  382.  This product  uses the both  a SuperLok  copy protection
  383.  and  some protection  of  their  own.  Start  by  making
  384.  yourself a backup  copy of the "gendata"  diskette using
  385.  the CopyWrite program.  Delete the file getdata.com from
  386.  your  CopyWrite   backup.   Run   "Unguard"  using   the
  387.  "gendata"   diskette  as   the   source  diskette,   and
  388.  "getdata.com" as the source file.  Unguard will create a
  389.  file called "getdata.com", and  "getdata.qxe" copy these
  390.  files  onto  your  CopyWrite  backup  of  the  "gendata"
  391.  diskette.   Once  you  have used  the  CopyWrite  backup
  392.  diskette  to install  the Novell  Netware the  CopyWrite
  393.  backup diskette  will no longer  work.  You may  want to
  394.  make yourself a working archive again.
  395.  
  396. Alpine Encounter
  397.  Is a "flippy  disk".  In order to make  a backup using
  398.  CopyWrite, you need  to set the number  of sides option
  399.  to 1.  Then make a backup  of one side of the original
  400.  diskette to a  blank diskette.  When that  is done turn
  401.  over the original diskette to side 2 and make a backup
  402.  of that side to another blank diskette.  In the end you
  403.  will have  two diskettes as  backups for  the original
  404.  one "flippy diskette".   Be sure to label  each backup
  405.  diskette so that you know which  is Side 1 and which is
  406.  Side 2.
  407.  
  408. Amnesia
  409.  If you are  just making a backup of  the original disk,
  410.  then you  need to  use SoloBoot to  run the  backup you
  411.  make.   If  you  use  the install  that  comes  on  the
  412.  original Amnesia program  disk then you can  use Ramkey
  413.  to run it from the hard drive after you install it.
  414.  
  415.  
  416. Backgammon 5.0
  417.  At the end of the  CopyWrite procedure you will receive
  418.  the message "Abort, Retry, or Ignore?".  Select the "A"
  419.  for abort  and that  will bring you  back to  DOS.  The
  420.  copy you made will run like the original.  Just reboot
  421.  your system to load it.
  422.  
  423. Crossword Magic
  424.  At the end of the  CopyWrite procedure you will receive
  425.  the message  "sector not  found error  reading drive...
  426.  Abort,  Retry, Ignore?".   Choose  the  "I" to  ignore.
  427.  This will return  you to the CopyWrite  menu.  Now exit
  428.  to DOS.   The backup CopyWrite  made is good  and will
  429.  run like the original.
  430.  
  431. Disk Optimizer v1.4
  432.  Before using UnGuard  to make your backup,  use DOS and
  433.  copy all the files from the original disk to the target
  434.  disk.  Then  delete optimize.com from the  target disk.
  435.  Now run  UnGuard.  Instead  of creating  one new  file,
  436.  UnGuard   will   create   optimize.qxe    and   a   new
  437.  optimize.com.
  438.  
  439. Microreality   V2.0 rev.  B
  440.  You should read the Special Case section of the printed
  441.  manual under the ".Com and  .Exe Files" heading.  Those
  442.  notes apply to this program as well.

  444.  
  445. LITIGATION
  446.  Vault Corporation emerged from  bankruptcy on March 24,
  447.  1988.  The appeal  of Vault Corporation from  the trial
  448.  court  decision mentioned  in  the  printed manual  was
  449.  decided by the  appeals court in our favor  on June 21,
  450.  1988.  Short  of an appeal  to the Supreme  Court, this
  451.  will  probably end  the litigation  on  the subject  of
  452.  making backup copies  of computer software.  As  it now
  453.  stands, there is no legal barrier to the sale or use of
  454.  CopyWrite, as long as it is used for backup purposes.

  488. resident program  that captures  the name  and
  489. address at the  top of a letter,  and with one
  490. keystroke, prints  it on  an envelope  in your
  491. printer.

  494. popular  IBM   software  including   WordStar,
  495. Symphony, dBASE and resident  software such as
  496. SideKick.

  521. Disk  Explorer recovers  accidentally  deleted
  522. files and directories automatically!
  523.  
  524. Every  computer user  will  one  day know  the
  525. sinking   feeling  that   follows   accidental
  526. deletion of a file, program or directory.
  527.  
  528. What many people don't know however is that as
  529. long as nothing  has been written to  the disk
  530. since the deletion,  the data is still  on the
  531. diskette.  In these circumstances, recovery is
  532. possible and Disk Explorer will do it quickly.
  533.  
  534. For  the   more  technically   inclined,  Disk
