Display "The horizontal rows of the grid are now labeled with
chromatic note names. Click on various rows with the right mouse
button to sound the notes."
Display "Let's explore a different part of the Rhythm Editor. The next
step is to create two different melody phrases - one for the first 4 bars,
and one to use in the middle 4 bars."
Display "Careful analysis of the melody of 'Twinkle Twinkle' reveals
the following: The melody in the first four bars is identical to the
melody in the last four bars. (So are the 'powerful yet cloying'
lyrics)."
Display "Also, the melody in the middle four bars is the same two bar
phrase, repeated. That is, bars 5 and 6 are identical to bars 7 and
8."
RESTORE DISPLAY 0, 75, 100, 25
Display "Click on the 'New' button on the Rhythm Editor Window. Make
sure the Number of Bars is set to 4. From this dialog you can also
change the MIDI channel used and the patch. You can audition the MIDI
channel and patch combination by using the right mouse button. Click
'OK' on the dialog box when done."

Display "The New Rhythm dialog also had the entry boxes for 'Note
Range'. You can use these to specify the range of notes you want the
Rhythm Editor grid to display."
Display "A note about MIDI channels. You should decide on a strategy
for assigning MIDI channels to your Power Chords parts. Use one MIDI
channel for all bass parts, another one for melodies, another for the
instrument, and another for Drums. (Channel 10 is recommended for
Drums.) It's easier if you always use the same assignments."
Display "The Rhythm Editor should now be displaying a pattern 4 bars
long. Click with the right mouse button on the grid. The patch
selected in the New Rhythm Dialog is now being used."
Display "By manipulating the note resolution via the resolution
scrollbar, you can enter any note length from a quarter note, down to
1/96 of a quarter note. But how about notes longer than a quarter note?"
Display "Press one of the shift keys on the computer keyboard and hold it
down. Now click on a box in the note grid, and while holding shift
key and the mouse button down, drag the mouse to the right. As you
drag the note is elongated."
Display "Try creating several of these longer notes, and then playing your
melody by clicking on the 'Play' button. When you are done experimenting,
click on the 'Zap' button to clear the note grid."
Display "To demonstrate importing from a MIDI file, we've created and
stored MIDI files with the melody phrases you need for Twinkle Twinkle
in them."
Display "The Rhythm Editor menu is accessed by clicking on the small
box in the upper left hand corner of the Rhythm Editor window."
