RESTORE DISPLAY 25, 10, 50, 50
Display "Welcome to Part 1 of the Power Chords Tutorial. To stop the
tutorial at any time select 'Stop Playing' from the Script menu above."
Display "If you haven't yet configured Power Chords please do so before
continuing. For information on configuring Power Chords, refer to the
Power Chords Help file, accessible through the 'Help' menu option above.
If you wish to continue with the demo, click on the 'GO' button."
Display "This tutorial will demonstrate the basics of creating a Power
Chords song including Chord and Chord Rhythm creation, use of the Song
Window and use of the Rhythm Editor."
Display "To begin with, double click on the Instrument Icon to show the
Instrument Window."
RESTORE INSTRUMENT 0, 0, 25, 75
RESTORE DISPLAY 30, 10, 50, 25
Display "Click the right mouse button on the Instrument Window. You should
hear the strings sound. Most things in Power Chords can be sounded with
the right mouse button."
Display "Let's create a simple song. How about 'Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star'? (It will do for demo purposes...)"
Display "First you need to create the chords for the song. Double click on
the Chords icon to show the Chord Palette Window where you will put the
chords you create."
RESTORE PALETTE 60, 45, 40, 35
RESTORE DISPLAY 60, 0, 40, 30
Display "The chords needed are C Major, F Major, G Major and G7.
If you know these guitar chords, you can simply create them yourself
instead of using the Chord Request feature."
Display "If you do not know these guitar chords, click on the 'Rqst'
button with the mouse to bring up the Chord Request window."
Display "Make sure the 'Auto-load' item in the Chord Request window is
selected. If there is no 'X' in the box next to 'Auto-load', click on it."
Display "First, create C Major. If using the Chord Request window,
make sure that 'C' in the 'Root' area and 'Maj' in the 'Triad' area are
selected, and no other items are."
Display "Click on the 'OK / Next' button. Now click the right mouse
button on either the Instrument Window or Chord Request Window to
sound the C Major chord."
Display "If you are not using Chord Request and know guitar
chords, create the C Major chord on the fretboard now by clicking on the
appropriate frets and strings."
Display "The next step is to put the chord into the Chord Palette. Locate
the chord export button in the Instrument Window. It is purple and has
criss-crosses and an arrow on it."
Display "When you click on the export button, the cursor changes to a
small chord. Click on the export button, hold the mouse button down,
and drag the chord over the Chord Palette Window. Then release the
mouse button and the chord should appear in the Chord Palette."
Display "If you are using Chord Request, you can move chords to the Chord
Palette by clicking on the 'To Palette' button."
Display "Now create F Major. Select 'F' on the Chord Request window. You
should now have only 'F' and 'Maj' selected. Put this chord into the Chord
Palette by using either the chord export button or the 'To Palette' button
if you are using Chord Request."
Display "Now create G Major and put it in the Chord Palette."
Display "Now create G7. You will have to keep 'G', and 'Maj'
selected, and also select '7' from the 'Domin' area of the Window.
When you've done this, put the chord to the Chord Palette."
Display "Now, if you used it, close the Chord Request Window. There
is a small box in the upper left hand corner of the Chord Request
Window."
Display "Click on the small box and select 'Close' from the menu that
appears. Now minimize the Instrument Window by clicking on the down
arrow icon in its upper right corner."
MINIMIZE INSTRUMENT
Display "Arrange the chords in the Chord Palette by clicking on the 'Tile'
button. You can sound them if you wish by using the right mouse button
while pointing to them, or click on the 'Sound' button."
Display "Now that you have your chords, you will have to arrange them in
the song window."
Display "Double click on the Song icon to show the Song Window."
RESTORE SONG 0, 0, 60, 70
Display "Note that some of the bars have been divided in half for you.
These divisions are created by using the Cleaver tool in the Song Window.
This allows you to have up to four chords in a bar."
RESTORE PALETTE 25, 70, 75, 30
Display "To drag a chord from the Chord Palette you click and hold on
the bottom part of the small chord window. If you click and hold on
the title of the chord window, you will move the chord window
itself."
Display "Now place chords into position in the song by dragging them from
the Chord Palette. Once a chord is in the song, you can drag it elsewhere
in the Song Window. In the first bar, a C Major chord is required, so drag
it in from the Chord Palette."
Display "Now drag the C Major chord from bar 1 into the second half of
bar 2. A vertical line at the halfway point denotes the division."
Display "Drag a C Major chord into the second half of bar 3 and the second
half of bar 4."
Display "Drag an F Major chord from the Chord Palette into the first half of
bar 2. Drag an F Major chord into the first half of bar 3."
Display "Now for the final chord. Drag the G Major chord from the chord
palette to the first half of bar 4."
Display "You should have the following chords: 1: CMaj 2: FMaj | CMaj 3:
FMaj | CMaj 4: GMaj | CMaj."
Display "So far so good. All you have to do now is add a Chord Rhythm
and you'll have the first part of Twinkle Twinkle. Since Chord Rhythms
repeat in a song automatically, you'll just create one and put it in
the first bar."
Display "Minimize the Song Window and the Chord Palette."

Display "Now double click on the Rhythm Editor Icon."
RESTORE RHYTHMEDIT 0, 0, 60, 50
Display "First let's make sure you will be editing a Chord Rhythm.
There is a small menu request box in the upper left hand corner of
the Rhythm Editor. Click on it, and select the 'Chord Rhythm' item
from the menu."
Display "The note grid in the Rhythm Editor is used to add, remove,
and edit notes. At the left you will notice the note letters of the
strings of the instrument. These notes are the values of the open
strings."
Display "The grid is divided so that each string has a line of boxes.
At the bottom of the grid are beat numbers, each representing a
quarter note."
Display "The vertical lines indicate what portions of a beat you can
enter or remove by clicking with the mouse. For our example, let's
enter eighth notes for the entire pattern."
Display "Locate the resolution scroll bar in the Rhythm Editor. It is
just to the right of the upper right hand corner of the note grid. To
the right of the scroll bar is a group of four small square buttons."
Display "Click the down arrow button on the scroll bar once. The grid should
be redrawn with each box now divided in two. This gives us eighth notes as
an eight note is half a quarter note beat."
Display "Now randomly click in some of the note grid squares to create
some notes."
Display "Locate the Play button. It is in the group of buttons just
to the right of the resolution scroll bar and it has a triangle on it.
Next to it is the Stop button, which has a square on it."
Display "Now click on the Play button, and your chord rhythm will
play once through."
Display "You may tinker with the Chord Rhythm by adding and removing
notes and then replaying it, if you wish, until you have one you are
satisfied with."
Display "Double click on the Song Icon, so that you can drag the Chord
Rhythm into the Song."
RESTORE SONG 0, 51, 70, 50
Display "The Rhythm Editor also has an Export button similar to the
one in the Instrument Window. It is blue, and has criss-crosses on
it, and a big arrow. Locate the Export button."
Display "Click on the Export button and hold the mouse button down.
The cursor should change to a block-like symbol. Drag the rhythm down
to the Song Window. When it is over the first bar, release the
button. Enter a title for your Rhythm when prompted."
Display "You should now have the chord rhythm copied into the first bar of
the song. Let's play the song and see how it sounds."
Display "Click on the 'Play' button in the Song Window and listen to
the music you've created."
Display "So far, you've learned how to create Chords, store them, and how to
arrange them in a Song. You've also learned the very basics of using the
Rhythm Editor."
Display "In a short time, you've created a piece of music. But there's much
more to Power Chords."
Display "If you are ready to continue learning about Power Chords, just
click on the 'GO' button. If you wish to take a break, select 'Stop
Playing' from the Script menu above. You can Load and Run the TUTOR2.SCR
file when you're ready to continue."
