  13. ColorMe! is a Windows coloring book for kids. It's great for 
  14. introducing children to computers. Using a mouse, a child can 
  15. operate the program by simply pointing and clicking. Choose from 
  16. five coloring books (ABC's, Animals, Dinosaurs, Staying Home, 
  17. Things That Go).  ColorMe! has 125 colors and 25 patterns for 
  18. filling in the pictures.  By mixing colors and patterns, children 
  19. come up with very creative designs.  ColorMe! will print to any 
  20. Windows-supported color or black and white printer.  Ages 2-10

  34. Installation from a BBS:

  37. ColorMe! is distributed on BBS systems without a SETUP program for
  38. faster downloads.  If you received ColorMe! without the file SETUP.EXE,
  39. follow this easy one-time installation procedure:

  41. 1) Make sure all of the ColorMe! files and directories were properly
  42. extracted.  The following tree shows all the files and directories
  43. that are distributed with ColorMe!:

  88. If you have a flat directory structure (instead of the nested
  89. one above) you probably did not receive ColorMe! as a self-extracting
  90. archive.  Haruyasu Yoshizaki's LHA version 2.55b self-extracting archive 
  91. is the preferred distribution format, because by default it retains the 
  92. nested directory structure ColorMe! requires.  However, you may have
  93. received ColorMe! using some other compression format, such as zip or
  94. arj. If that is the case, you need to specify a switch to retain the
  95. directory structure when you decompress (e.g. "pkunzip -d clrme121.zip",
  96. or "arj x -y clrme121.arj").

  98. If any of the files listed above are missing from your ColorMe! archive,
  99. try downloading ColorMe! from one of the more popular bulletin boards,
  100. such as America Online, or CompuServe.  Also, please drop a note
  101. to the sysop of the original BBS from which you downloaded ColorMe! to 
  102. let him know that his version of ColorMe! is incomplete.  You can
  103. also buy the shareware version of ColorMe! at popular computer stores,
  104. such as Egghead Software and Comp USA.

  106. 2) Copy the top level "COLORME!" directory to the root of your C:
  107. hard drive.  This step is not required, but "C:\COLORME!" is the
  108. default location for ColorMe! and is used in the remainder of the
  109. instructions.  Select the "COLORME!" folder in the File Manager.
  110. Then, select the "Copy..." entry under the "File" menu.  Type
  111. "\" into the "TO" field (leave the "FROM" field alone) and click
  112. on the "OK" button.
  113.  
  114. 3) You can create a ColorMe! icon in the Program Manager.  First, click 
  115. on the group to which you wish to add ColorMe!.  Then, choose "New..." 
  116. from the "File" menu in the Windows Program Manager. Select "Program Item"
  117. and click "OK".  In the "Command Line" box, type "C:\COLORME!\COLORME!.EXE"
  118. (or use the "Browse" button to locate the "COLORME!.EXE" file)
  119. Another way to create the ColorMe! icon in your Program Manager is
  120. to drag the COLORME!.EXE file from the file manager and drop it into 
  121. the Program Manager Window.

  123. 4) To start ColorMe!, double click on the ColorMe! icon in the Program
  124. Manager.  If you did not create an icon, you can start ColorMe! by
  125. double clicking on C:\COLORME!\COLORME!.EXE in the File Manager.

  128. Installation from a distribution disk:

  131. If you received ColorMe! on a disk with the file SETUP.EXE, start
  132. the SETUP program as follows:  insert the ColorMe! distribution disk
  133. in your floppy drive.  From the Windows Program manager choose "Run..."
  134. from the File menu, type "A:\SETUP", and press the enter key.  If you
  135. are using a floppy drive other than "A:", substitute the letter of
  136. your drive for "A:" (i.e. "B:\SETUP").

  148. *** KNOWN PROBLEMS ***
  149.  
  150. ColorMe! takes advantage of some of the more advanced features of the
  151. Windows API.  We have seen a few cases where ColorMe! does not function 
  152. properly due to bugs in particular video drivers.  It is often the case 
  153. that upgrading to the newest version of the video driver will solve the 
  154. problem.  You can get the newest driver from the manufacturer of your 
  155. video card, or you can check online services such as America Online or 
  156. CompuServe.
  157.  
  158. The problem is not very common.  So far, we have seen the problem occur
  159. with the Number Nine video card and a couple of other obscure cards.
  160. In the case of Number Nine, getting the most recent version of the
  161. driver solved the problem. If you do run into a problem that causes 
  162. ColorMe! not to color the pictures properly, would you please provide 
  163. us the following information by FAX, email, or letter?

  179. if we have seen the problem with your particular video driver, and
  180. whether or not there is a new version to fix the problem.
