  27. A) Notes and knows problems
  28.  
  29.    Please also read the notes in Appendix B - Troubleshooting in the Hardware 
  30.    User manual.

  33.    Installation of the Windows 3.1x driver
  34.  
  35.    Important! 
  36.    Different to the manual the Intel ICU Plug & Play Utility is NOT delivered 
  37.    with the SPEA MEDIA XTC. The configuration and installation of the 
  38.    soundboard can now be executed under DOS / Windows 3.1x also without Plug & 
  39.    Play functionality (without ICU Utility and without Plug & Play BIOS in the 
  40.    system).
  41.    In this case, the configuration of the I/O addresses, Interrupts and DMA 
  42.    channels can be done by the SSINIT utility, which you can find in the 
  43.    installation directory (in general C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC).
  44.    Start SSINIT under DOS without any parameter. Select the Option `Advanced'. 
  45.    In the following you can change the settings of the board in the menu 
  46.    option `Hardware'. 
  47.    If you have installed a mouse driver under DOS, you can comfortably make 
  48.    the selections with the mouse.
  49.    If you don't want to make the hardware settings on your own, you should 
  50.    install the Intel ICU Plug & Play Utility on your system before you install 
  51.    the board. The program can be obtained by your local dealer. The 
  52.    configuration of the SPEA MEDIA XTC then will be executed automatically by 
  53.    this program.

  55.    Please note, that without an installed Plug & Play fuctionality the SPEA 
  56.    MEDIA XTC will be set to the default values I/O=330, DMA=1, IRQ=9 and 
  57.    IRQ=5. Perhaps conflicts with other system components may occur with these 
  58.    settings.
  59.  
  60.    Q: After the SPEA MEDIA XTC Windows 3.1x driver installation the system 
  61.       reboots. During the booting process the system crashes while executing 
  62.       the program SSINIT.
  63.    A: You have installed your SPEA MEDIA XTC without having installed a Plug & 
  64.       Play Utility on your system and with the default I/O addresses, DMA 
  65.       channel or Interrputs conflicts occur between the SPEA MEDIA XTC and 
  66.       other system components. 
  67.       Boot your system without starting SSINIT (e.g. with a DOS boot disk or 
  68.       by pressing the F8 key while booting and confirming each executable 
  69.       command separately).
  70.       Change to the installation directory (in general C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC). 
  71.       Start SSINIT without any parameter and select the option `Advanced'. Now 
  72.       you can configure the settings of the soundboard in the `Hardware' menu. 
  73.       May be that you have to enter the following commands before you start 
  74.       SSINIT:
  75.     SET BLASTER=A220 1xx Dx T1
  76.     SET SNDSCAPE=C:\SPEA\MEDIAXTC
  77.       Alternatively you can edit the file SNDSCAPE.INI directly:
  78.       Open the file SNDSCAPE.INI -which you will find in the installation 
  79.       directory - with an editor (e.g. the DOS-Editor EDIT) and change the 
  80.       parameter values of IRQ, SBIRQ and DMA corresponding to your 
  81.       requirements. For possible values for Interrupts and DMA channels please 
  82.       refer to the SPEA MEDIA XTC hardware manual in Appendix C - Technical 
  83.       Data.

  85.    Q: Different to the manual the installation doesn't offer the option for a 
  86.       volume level control to be installed in the AutoStart group. The Level 
  87.       Control Utility will not be installed. 
  88.    A: Different to the description in the manual in Part 2 - Installing the 
  89.       SPEA MEDIA XTC, the Level Control Utility is not supplied and installed 
  90.       with the soundboard, as there are compatibility problems with Windows 
  91.       95.

  93.    Q: The diagnostic Utility S2KSTAT - described in the manual in Part 3 - 
  94.       Configuration of the SPEA MEDIA XTC is not executable. It terminates 
  95.       with an error message. 
  96.    A: To get use of the diagnostic Utility S2KSTAT you have to add the 
  97.       following line to the file SNDSCAPE.INI. 
  98.     CodeFile=SNDSCAPE.C03
  99.       Now you can use the program.
  100.  
  101.    Q: The SPEA MEDIA XTC can not be installed under Windows 95 as described. 
  102.       Either the board cannot be detected by the system or the driver tells 
  103.       (in the Windows 95 device manager) that actually there are no conflicts 
  104.       but that the board is not ready for use or that the driver installation 
  105.       is incomplete. 
  106.    A: In such a case the Plug & Play functionality under Windows 95 is 
  107.       seriously disrupted. This most likely occurs with an elder or a 
  108.       defective System BIOS. Contact your local dealer or the motherboard 
  109.       manufacturer and ask for a System BIOS update.
  110.  
  111.    Q: Windows 95 or the SPEA MEDIA XTC Windows 95 driver reports a conflict 
  112.       between the SPEA MEDIA XTC and another installed device.
  113.    A: Eventually Windows 95 has not recognized the Ensoniq Soundscape chip set 
  114.       of the SPEA MEDIA XTC due to an error with the Plug & Play functionality 
  115.       and therefore installs the Soundboard as an unknown device. Remove the 
  116.       unnknown devices and the SPEA MEDIA XTC entries with the device manager 
  117.       of Windows 95. Restart Windows 95 and follow the instructions of Windows 
  118.       95, in case that it requires driver disks.
  119.  
  120.    Q: After a -as it seems- successful installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  121.       Windows 95 driver the network card, the mouse or another device does not 
  122.       work propely any more.
  123.    A: These problems can have several reasons:
  124.       - An elder Plug & Play BIOS or one that is incompatible to Windows 95 
  125.     can cause the described effect. After you update the BIOS, the problem 
  126.     should be solved.
  127.       - If your BIOS offers the possibility to mark IRQs as reserved, it may 
  128.     be necessary that you mark the IRQs as reserved that are reserved by 
  129.     ISA boards without Plug & Play functionality.
  130.       - May be that conflicts between different devices already occured before 
  131.     the Installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC. The devices could have worked 
  132.     properly without any errors before, though the error has already been 
  133.     existing. In the device manager check, if there are conflicts between 
  134.     other devices and change the configuration of these devices.
  135.  
  136.    Q: After a - as it seems - successful installation of the SPEA MEDIA XTC 
  137.       Windows 95 driver the SPEA MEDIA XTC doen not work.

  150.       - In some cases it can be necessary to reconfigure the SPEA MEDIA XTC, 
  151.     to select another Interrupt or DMA channel, though obvioulsy no 
  152.     problem occurs. It may be that other components or their drivers 
  153.     cause errors on Interrupts or DMA channels they actually don't 
  154.     reserve. It may also be that a motherboard has problems with some 
  155.     certain interrupts or DMA channels if a board is installed in an 
  156.     expansion slot.

  160. B) Corrections to the manual
  161.  
  162.    P.  9  Installation via a Plug & Play System or Utility (ICU):
  163.       If you don't have a Plug & Play Utility (e.g. Intel's ICU) or Plug & 
  164.       Play BIOS in your system, then you can also configure your SPEA 
  165.       MEDIA XTC with the SSINIT Utility (without Plug & Play 
  166.       functionality). Though it is adviced to purchase a Plug & Play 
  167.       Utility at your local dealer or motherboard manufacturer.

  169.    P. 11  Internal Audio Connectors / Mitsumi CD (J5):
  170.       Different to the description and the illustration on page 10 the 
  171.       Audio Connector J5 for a Mitsumi CD is not available on the SPEA 
  172.       MEDIA XTC.

  174.    P. 13  Installation of the Software for DOS / Windows 3.1:
  175.       For compatibility reasons (with Windows 95) the Level Control 
  176.       Utility described under item 6 is no longer part of the delivery 
  177.       scope. This means also that there is no possibility for setting up 
  178.       the Volume Level control in the Autostart group of Windows.

  180.    P. 14  Standard Modifications AUTOEXEC.BAT
  181.       The 2nd line which will be added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT now is:
  182.         SET SNDSCAPE=<directory> 
  183.       The 3rd line is:

  186.    P. 18  Description of the Options for the Hardware Settings:
  187.       The options of the Hardware Settings are only available for SSINIT, 
  188.       if the SPEA MEDIA XTC is configured without Plug & Play 
  189.       functionality, that means that Intel's ICU is not installed.

  193. C) Windows 95 
  194.  
  195.    The SPEA MEDIA XTC is supplied with drivers for Windows 3.1x as well as 
  196.    drivers for Windows 95. Please use the drivers that fit to your operating 
  197.    system. The drivers are available on the supplied disk or on the Media 
  198.    Gallery CD Edition Nr. 12/95 upwards.

  200.    The supplied applications Super JAM! Jr. and Recording Session Plus can be 
  201.    used under Windows 3.1x and under Windows 95.

  205. D) Notes to Super JAM! JR. from the Blue Ribbon Soundworks
  206.  
  207.    The Program SuperJAM! Jr. from The Blue Ribbon Soundworks is a powerful 
  208.    program which makes it very easy to compose.

  210.    When you have successfully installed your Software you can get aware of the 
  211.    program very easy with the available online help.

  213.    Installation of the Software:
  214.    1. Insert the Super JAM! Jr. Installation disk in the corresponding disk 
  215.       drive. 
  216.    2. Start Windows (if not already done)
  217.    3. Start the Software installation from the Program Manager with the 
  218.       following call:
  219.     `File' `Run' A:\SETUP.EXE
  220.    4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

  222.    The program is copied onto your hard disk.
