  7. -------------
  8. This is v2.14 of the Stealth 64 Series Windows v3.1 Driver disk.
  9.  
  10. Changes in v2.14
  11. ----------------
  12. Changes were made for compatibility with the TI Audio Codec on the Motion
  13. Video Player 2000 Series MPEG daughtercard.  Additional software changes were 
  14. made to address issues with the Motion Video Player 2000 Series.
  15.  
  16. Overview
  17. -------------
  18. This release of the Stealth 64 Series Windows 3.1 software is compatible
  19. with the Stealth 64 Video VRAM, Stealth64 Video 3000 Series, and Motion Video 
  20. Player 2000 Series for the Stealth 64 Video VRAM.
  21.  
  22. Windows Installation Notes
  23. --------------------------
  24. Use the INSTALL program to install the Windows 3.1 drivers from DOS
  25. or from the Windows Program Manager.
  26.  
  27. *  Suggestion:  If you are upgrading from a previous version of the
  28.    Diamond InControl Tools, you should install from DOS, not from
  29.    within Windows.  This will bypass errors regarding any files that
  30.    may be in use and cause the installation to fail.
  31.           
  32. *  Suggestion:  When running the Windows install, use MS VGA
  33.    to eliminate any OEM files that could create a conflict.
  34.  
  35. *  When running a windows install, if the install says 
  36.    "file in use, abort/continue" and the file in question is 
  37.    a font (*.FON) file, continue the install.
  38.  
  39. *  If strange errors occur and text is missing from dialogs,
  40.    check for .VBX files in your \WINDOWS directory.  .VBX files
  41.    should only reside in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM sub-directory.
  42.  
  43. Once the driver launches Windows, you will be placed in 640x480
  44. 256-color mode and prompted to select your monitor type.  Select 
  45. the brand monitor you have, compatible type, or use the Custom 
  46. Monitor Timings to create your own configuration and custom 
  47. screen centering.
  48.  
  49. *  Icon fonts are controlled by InControl Tools.  When changing
  50.    modes back to VGA or a non-Diamond driver, these settings
  51.    still remain.  To change back to default icon font, search
  52.    the WIN.INI file for the IconTypeFace, IconTypeStyle, and
  53.    IconTypeSize lines.  Place a semicolon (;) in front of these
  54.    lines or remove the lines entirely.
  55.  
  56. *  Only resolutions that have been selected as supported in the
  57.    Display module will be available in the Viewport choices.  If
  58.    your monitor can display a resolution provided by the card,
  59.    go to Display and select a monitor that offers that mode and
  60.    refresh, or select Custom Monitor Timings and Add the mode.
  61.  
  62. *  If Windows only displays a single alphabetic character for the
  63.    icon font, select a different font from the list of InControl
  64.    Tools.  Windows may not support the font type/size requested
  65.    in the resolution and resource size displayed.
  66.  
  67. *  If you had screen savers loaded previously, and they seem not
  68.    to load on startup any longer, see the message at the top 
  69.    regarding backing up important files and the limitation down
  70.    below of LOAD= line being replaced and not appended.  This is
  71.    a limitation of the Windows 3.xx SETUP program. This does not
  72.    occur with the Diamond install.
  73.  
  74.  
  75. Trouble Shooting Suggestions
  76. ----------------------------
  77. All of the options listed below are to be added into a section called
  78. [STLTH64.DRV].  This section is not created during the installation
  79. of the Diamond drivers and InControl Tools.  You must manually add this
  80. section.  It should be added to the end of the SYSTEM.INI.
  81.  
  82.  
  83. *  If you are experiencing random lock-ups in Windows you can add the
  84.    following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section of the SYSTEM.INI. This
  85.    type of lock-up may occur with applications that interrogate the
  86.    systems memory searching for virill.
  87.  
  88.      LEAVEMMIODISABLED=1  --  This is set to 0 by default.
  89.  
  90. *  If you are encountering some lock-ups during heavy DMA transfers or
  91.    your motherboard supports bus time-outs then you may try setting
  92.    the following option in the [STLTH64.DRV] section of your SYSTEM.INI
  93.  
  94.      BUSYCHECK=ON  --  This is set to OFF by default.
  95.  
  96. *  If you are using Lenny Music Tunes, Microsoft Art Gallery, Small
  97.    Blue Planet, Ocean Below, Vampire's Coffin, D-Day, all of the
  98.    Brightstart education CD's, and other similar applications, you
  99.    will want to add the following line to the [STLTH64.DRV] section
  100.    of the SYSTEM.INI.  This will correct the corrupted screens you
  101.    may experience during animation sequences.
  102.  
  103.      DEVICEBITMAPS=1 -- This is set to 0 by default.
  104.  
  105.    With the fix enabled you may possibly experience compatibility issues
  106.    with other programs; one confirmed problem is with Adobe Illustrator
  107.    v4.01.
  108.  
  109.  
  110.    * IMPORTANT NOTE:  This is a problem with the way bitmaps are treated
  111.               by the application. This is not a deficiency in the
  112.               driver.  We have provided a means to correct this
  113.               issue, until the software vendor rectifies the problem.
  114.               All Edutainment vendors have been made aware of the
  115.               problem and are currently taking steps to correct the
  116.               bitmap issue.
  117.  
  118. *  Important Note for VLB Card users.  If you are experiencing problems
  119.    entering Windows v3.1, in 640x480x8bpp, or greater you can relocate
  120.    the Linear Address of the Stealth 64 Series.  Add the following line
  121.    into the [STLTH64.DRV] section of the SYSTEM.INI.
  122.  
  123.      MEMADDR=xxxx --  This is set to 7C00 by default.
  124.  
  125.      Where xxxx can be only ONE of the following options:

  134. The following Windows 3.1 drivers are included:

  149. The following items require a SYSTEM.INI switch be changed:

  152.  1024x768x8/16/32bpp, D-Day select Media Tour Menu and by
  153.  Theme | select Army topics and choose
  154.  "Artillery : Allied AntiTank Weapons" | No video displayed
  155.  (or fragmented video displayed)

  157.  All resolutions All Color depths, The Vampires's Coffin,
  158.  At the intro screen, the screen will fade in and
  159.  out very very slowly.  PROJECTR caused a GPF in module
  160.  GDI.EXE @ 0001:0F6A
  161.  
  162.  All resolutions, 8bpp, Lenny's Music Toons, Horizontal
  163.  line appears and picture is corrupt.
  164.  
  165.  All resolutions, 8bpp, MS Art Gallery, picture appears
  166.  corrupt.
  167.  
  168. Known Restrictions:
  169. -------------------
  170.  
  171.  If you have a Sound card installed in your PC, you will need
  172.  to disable the Internal Mix Manager for Incontrol Tools.  This is done
  173.  throught the Audio button, a check box in the lower left corner marked
  174.  "Disable Mixer" will enable/disable the mixer.
  175.  
  176.  DCI has limitations in it's abilities to maintain the pallete in 8bpp modes.
  177.  This problem will exist in Microsoft's Encarta `95, and Comptons Encyclopdia.
  178.  
  179.  Dinosaur Safari from Creative Media.  This product does not operate properly
  180.  under Windows, the vendor can be contacted at 503-241-1530.
  181.  
  182.  You cannot center any modes under "User Defined..." until you restart
  183.  Windows.
  184.  
  185.  800x600x32bpp, 1024x768x32bpp, Small Blue Planet, "Runtime
  186.  Error : Stack Overflow" when the  application is loaded.
  187.  NOTE: This will occur with ALL 32bpp drivers.
  188.  
  189.  All resolutions, 16/24bpp, Paintbrush, Print to HP
  190.  LaserJet 4 | Prints nothing.
  191.  
  192.  Run Landmark Speed - it will drop you to a dos prompt.
  193.  This is a limitation of the application, if you
  194.  run a DX2/66 in non-turbo mode, the program will work
  195.  fine, in turbo mode the system hangs, this is a
  196.  issue with the application itself, not the driver.
  197.  
  198.  Some monitors which do not support DPMS will start scrolling until
  199.  entering into Sleep mode.
  200.  
  201.  
  202.

  204. Motion Video Player 2000 Series
  205. ***********************************
  206.  
  207. This section will help explain the basics of the Motion Video Player 
  208. and the steps necessary to make the Motion Video Player work properly.
  209.  
  210.  
  211. Video Playback Modes Supported by the Motion Video Player 2000 Series
  212. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  213. At this time the Motion Video Player functions at the following resolution 
  214. and color depths:
  215.  
  216. 1.  640x480     - All color depths
  217. 2.  800x600     - All color depths
  218. 3.  1024x768    - All color depths
  219. 4.  1280x1024   - 256 and 64K color depths.
  220.  
  221. Note:  You can use the system at other resolutions/color depths, but you 
  222. cannot play MPEG files or play live video.
  223.  
  224. Notes
  225. --------
  226. The Motion Video Player module can also play VIDEO-CD and CD-i movies. To 
  227. do that you need a CD-ROM drive and firmware that supports CD-i and 
  228. CD-V. If you have problems playing a CD-i or Video-CD, you should contact 
  229. directly you CD-ROM manufacturer on this topic.
  230.  
  231. The Motion Video Player module supports only one MPEG playback at a time. 
  232. However, you can play back live video and MPEG simultenously.
  233.  
  234. You can configure separately MPEG playback or Live video playback using 
  235. the Video Configuration dialog box. To do this, open Media player with an 
  236. MPEG file or Live Video then choose "Device" and select Configure option.
  237.  
  238.  
  239. Suggestions and Known Restrictions with Release 2.14
  240. ----------------------------------------------------
  241.  
  242. 1. Do not use the full screen DOS box while playing an MPEG clip. You 
  243. may use the Window DOS box.
  244.  
  245. 2. The recommended resolution to play full-screen MPEG is 1024x768 at 
  246. 64K colors. 
  247.  
  248. 3. If you encounter problems with your PCI system (such as poor Audio-Video
  249. synchronization, cannot capture images because of interrupt problem, ...), 
  250. make sure you have the latest system BIOS for your PCI motherboard.  Early 
  251. PCI Pentium 66 Mhz or below are often not fully compliant with the PCI 
  252. standard.  
  253.  
  254. 4. This driver does not support the simultaneous playback of AVI, MPEG and Live Video.  
  255. Simultaneous playback of MPEG and Live Video is supported.
  256.  
  257. 5. If you wish to playback MPEG full-screen in 16M color mode, you can add the 
  258. following line to the [System] section of your STLTHMVP.INI file:
  259.  
  260.             NoVideoSizeLimit=1
  261.  
  262. NOTE:  If you are experiencing lockups when playing MPEG clips full-screen in a 16M 
  263. color mode, you may be encountering bandwidth limitations on your system.  
  264. If you encounter this problem, you should change the following line to the [System]
  265. section of your STLTHMVP.INI file:
  266.  
  267.             NoVideoSizeLimit=0
  268.
