  6. Release Notes
  7. -------------
  8. This is v1.02 of the SpeedStar 64 Install/Utilities/Drivers disk set.

  11. AutoCAD 10/11/12 Installation Notes
  12. -----------------------------------
  13.  
  14. To install TurboDLD, run the GO.EXE program from DOS.  The GO.EXE
  15. will install the drivers into the proper AutoCAD directories.  If
  16. you have changed your directories from default you will be
  17. prompted for the appropriate directories.  A file called SSACAD.BAT
  18. will be created in your AutoCAD driver directory, C:\ACAD\DRV
  19. for AutoCAD 12 and C:\TURBODLD for AutoCAD 10 and 11.
  20.  
  21. To select the newly installed driver run:
  22.  
  23. ACAD -r from the C:\ACAD directory.
  24.  
  25. Then select 3 to change the video driver.  
  26.  
  27. You will be prompted with a list of video drivers, 
  28. select the TurboDLD Classic driver.
  29.  
  30.  * If you do not have TurboDLD Classic as a listed option then
  31.    you may not have your AutoCAD enviroment variables set properly
  32.    or you are out of environment space.  Please refer to your
  33.    AutoCAD manual for troubleshooting techniques.
  34.  
  35.  * Your refresh mode is set by using SSMODE.  If you have not
  36.    already done so please run the DOS program C:\SSALPINE\UTIL\SSMODE and
  37.    configure your monitor properly.
  38.  
  39. For features and notes about TurboDLD please refer to the file
  40. READ.ME in the appropriate AutoCAD directory on your hard disk.

  42.     Known Limitations
  43.     -----------------

  45.     800x600 24bpp, is listed as a available mode.  This is not a valid mode
  46.     and should not be selected.

  49. DOS Installation Notes
  50. ----------------------
  51.  
  52. Use the GO.EXE file to install DOS/CAD drivers, and Utility files.
  53.  
  54. SSMODE should be installed for all first-time operations.  This program
  55. controls the frequencies sent to the monitor and will allow the high
  56. resolution and high color modes to synchronize correctly on your screen
  57. (for DOS only).
  58.  
  59. Utilities
  60. ---------
  61. SSMODE.EXE allows selection of text modes, video emulation modes, and
  62. monitor mode frequencies for all environments outside of Windows.  Monitor 
  63. timing information is saved to the SSMODE.EXE file and is automatically
  64. loaded on power-up or reset.
  65.  
  66. Users with monitors not conforming to the industry preset monitors
  67. provided can select the CUSTOM MONITOR option which allows selection
  68. of frequencies, sync polarities, and screen centering for each video
  69. resolution and color depth.  Please consult your monitor manual for
  70. the exact capabilities of your monitor before selecting monitor
  71. timing.  We strongly urge that selection of monitor timings in CUSTOM 
  72. be made for all resolutions and color depths.

  74.     Known Limitations

  76.  
  77.     DPMS does not support all protected mode programs. These
  78.     include programs such as AutoCad, Microstation, and games
  79.     such as Links 386, Doom, etc.

  82. Windows NT v3.1
  83. ---------------
  84. You must have Windows NT installed with the Standard VGA driver (640x480x16).
  85. If you are running a different graphics mode please re-configure for Standard
  86. VGA.
  87.  
  88. Once you have confirmed that you are running in Standard VGA, place the
  89. SpeedStar 64 Disk 1 into the floppy drive.
  90.  
  91. Open the Windows NT setup icon located in your Main program group.
  92.  
  93. Select Options | Change System Settings...
  94.  
  95. Scroll down to the bottom of the Display option and select
  96. "Other Requires manufacturers Diskette."
  97.  
  98. You will be prompted for the location of this diskette. The location is
  99. A:\ (or B:, depending in your systems configuration).
  100.  
  101. Select Close.

  103. You will see the list of available drivers, their associated resolution and
  104. monitor refresh rates, such as:

  132. Close out of the Windows NT setup, you will need to restart Windows NT for the
  133. changes to take effect.

  135. NOTE: These Windows NT drivers for the GD543X only support systems or video
  136. adapters with 1MB of DRAM or more.
