  5.     This file contains the Windows 95 drivers for the Diamond
  6.     Multimedia Kits based on the OPTi 929 sound card.  This includes
  7.     support for the MMKits 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and 6000.
  8.     It also contains support for the MMKit 7000's that used the OPTi
  9.     929 w/integrated wavetable.

  14. INSTALLATION PROCESS
  15.  
  16.     Please follow these steps below for a proper installation of the 
  17.     drivers for Windows 95. It is hereby assumed that you already have
  18.     Windows 95 installed and have properly plugged in your Sound Card.
  19.  
  20.     1. You should have the drivers on a floppy diskette ready
  21.        for installation.
  22.  
  23.     2. Start Windows 95 and proceed to the Control Panel folder and 
  24.        select (double click) the SYSTEM icon.
  25.  
  26.     3. Select the Device Manager tab to display the list of devices
  27.        currently present on your system. 
  28.  
  29.     4. Check to see if you have previously installed the device.
  30.        Usually, the device name starts with "OPTi .. Sound System."
  31.        If a previous instance of the device does not exist, exit the
  32.        System Properties dialog box and proceed to STEP 6.
  33.  
  34.     5. If the device has been installed previously, double click on 
  35.        the device name to expand the list of sub-devices and select 
  36.        "OPTi .. Sound System:..." to remove the set of devices plus
  37.        this parent device. You will not be able to remove child 
  38.        devices which are controlled by this parent device unless this
  39.        parent device is removed.

  41.        Check also to see if you have previously installed any Windows 
  42.        Sound System or Sound Blaster audio devices or their compatibles, 
  43.        and if so, please remove them from the list.
  44.        
  45.        Once the devices have been removed, you must restart Windows 95.
  46.        
  47.        Additionally, remove the following from your startup files:
  48.        From the config.sys, remove:
  49.        
  50.        "DEVICE=C:\DIAMOND\CDSETUP.SYS ... "*
  51.        "DEVICE=C:\DIAMOND\XXXXX.SYS ... "*
  52.        
  53.        From the autoexec.bat, remove:
  54.        "SET SOUND16= ... "
  55.        "SET BLASTER= ... "
  56.        "... MSCDEX ... "*
  57.        "... SNDINIT ... "
  58.        
  59.        * - Note users of Sanyo CDR-H94A 2x and Pioneer DR-UA124X 4x
  60.            cd-rom drives will need to leave these lines in.  Users of
  61.            the Hitachi CDR-7730 cd-rom will need to leave the config.sys
  62.            entries and can omit the "mscdex" entry.

  64.     6. After the previous driver have been removed and the system has
  65.        restarted, select (double click) the Add New Hardware icon located
  66.        in the Control Panel folder to add/update the new device and it's
  67.        associated drivers.
  68.  
  69.     7. When prompted by Windows 95 for the Auto-Scan option for 
  70.        detecting new devices on your System - select NO and proceed
  71.        to the next page.
  72.  
  73.     8. Windows 95 will display a list of known devices that you 
  74.        currently wish to install. Select "Other Devices" eventhough
  75.        the name of the device is included in the list. This forces
  76.        Windows 95 to perform a fresh install for your device. Select
  77.        Next to proceed.

  79.     9. Windows 95 will again display a list containing manufacturer 
  80.        names and at which point you should ignore the list and select
  81.        the "Have Disk..." button. This tells Windows 95 to read
  82.        special installation instructions from your diskette to 
  83.        correctly install the drivers for your OPTi Sound device.
  84.        You will have to direct Windows 95 to the proper location of 
  85.        the floppy diskette.

  87.    10. Once information from the floppy diskette has been read by
  88.        Windows 95, a list of devices available for installation will
  89.        be displayed. This list includes options such as what type
  90.        of CD-ROM that you wish to connect to your Sound Card (meaning
  91.        using the connectors on your Sound Card for your CD-ROM 
  92.        interface). Select the correct CD-ROM type combination that
  93.        you desire but make sure that the CD-ROM has already been 
  94.        installed and connected to your Sound Card. If you do not wish 
  95.        to use your Sound Card for CD-ROM support (as a CD-ROM controller),
  96.        just select the basic option which includes only the Sound/Game
  97.        support.

  99.        If you have the MMK1000 with the Sanyo CDR-H94A 2x cd-rom drive
  100.        or the MMK4000/5000 with the Teac CD-55A 4x cd-rom drive,
  101.        choose the "OPTi929 Sound System: Sound/Game/MKEPanasonic CD-ROM"
  102.        option.

  104.        If you have the MMK2000/3000/4000/5000/6000/7000 with one of the
  105.        following cd-rom drives:
  106.        
  107.        Toshiba XM-5302B
  108.        GoldStar GCD-R540B (sometimes labeled as "Diamond cd-rom drive")
  109.        Pioneer DR-UA124X
  110.        Mitsumi CRMC FX-400
  111.        Sanyo CRD-254P
  112.        Hitachi CDR-7730
  113.        
  114.        choose the "OPTi929 Sound System: Sound/Game/IDE CD-ROM" option.

  116.    11. Select Next and Windows 95 will proceed to install the drivers
  117.        needed for your device and configure your device accordingly.
  118.        Once your device has been successfully configured, Windows 95
  119.        will prompt you to restart your system - select No to skip this
  120.        restart process since you should have your Sound Card properly
  121.        plugged in and installed. If however your Sound Card has not 
  122.        been correctly installed, you will have to select Yes to 
  123.        restart Windows 95.

  128.     1. MMKit 1000 users with the Sanyo CDR-H94A 2x cd-rom must still load
  129.        the "cdsetup.sys" and "sjcd.sys" lines.  Make sure that
  130.        the /p parameter on each line, which specifies the port address,
  131.        matches.  It must also match the address assigned under the resources
  132.        tab for the "OPTi929 Sound System: Sound/Game/MKEPanasonic CD-ROM".
  133.        Note - this device will have an exclamation mark over it in this
  134.        configuration.

  136.     2. MMKit 4000/5000 users with the Teac CD-55A 4x cd-rom must obtain the
  137.        new protected mode driver.  The current filename for this driver, as
  138.        posted by Diamond, is "TEAC_W95.EXE".  This name may chage with
  139.        possible future revisions.  If you are unable to locate it contact
  140.        Diamond Multimedia Systems for the current filename.

  142. CONNECTING EXTERNAL DEVICES

  144.     Wave Table Device
  145.  
  146.     To enable driver support for your Wave Table device, you will need
  147.     to reconfigure the "OPTi .. Sound System: Sound/Game.." device
  148.     properties and change the settings to use "Basic Configuration 0."

  152. RECONFIGURATION OF RESOURCES
  153.  
  154.     The resources for OPTi 82C929 should be reconfigurable on-the-fly 
  155.     unless due to a similar conflicting device present in the system.
  156.  
  157.     To reconfigure the resources, use the SYSTEM icon located in your
  158.     Control Panel folder and choose Device Manager. From Device Manager,
  159.     double click the "OPTi .. Sound System" option and the list of 
  160.     sub-devices will be displayed. Double click on the "OPTi .. Sound
  161.     System: Sound/Game..." device to change the desired resources for
  162.     this parent and it's child devices.
  163.  
  164.     Once resources have been changed, the driver will be reconfigured 
  165.     to operate with the new resources and function as before. You may 
  166.     be asked to restart your system and at which point you may select
  167.     No since Windows 95 should have reconfigured your device 
  168.     accordingly.

  172. AUDIO SUPPORT under WINDOWS 95 DOS BOX
  173.  
  174.     DOS Game support has been added for this release and is fully 
  175.     functional. During the setup for your DOS games, you must ensure that
  176.     the current resources assigned to the sound card matches with the
  177.     current settings requested by your DOS game. To find out what resources
  178.     are currently assigned to the sound card, proceed to open the properties
  179.     box associated with the "OPTi .. Sound System" (Device Manager)
  180.     and select the Resource tab. From the Resources box, you should see the
  181.     current I/O Address range for Input/Output Range Number 1. We recommend 
  182.     the 220 Hex address range as opposed to the 240 Hex be selected as most 
  183.     games support 220 Hex by default. We also recommend the Interrupt and 
  184.     Direct Memory Access settings of 7 and 1 respectively. Reconfigure these 
  185.     resources as appropriate and select OK for Device Manager to dynamically 
  186.     change and update your current resources and configure the hardware. 
  187.     At this point, you may setup your DOS game with the settings which you 
  188.     have just configured.
  189.  
  190.     Also, if you have a Wave Table Device on board or attached to your
  191.     sound card, you should also follow the recommended steps above but
  192.     this time check on the "OPTi .. MPU-401" device settings
  193.     instead. You will need it's current settings if you wish to enable
  194.     General MIDI support in your DOS games.
  195.  
  196.     To ensure an ideal environment for DOS games, it is recommended that
  197.     you modify the Idle Sensitivity property of your DOS Game environment
  198.     to High. To do this, press the ALT+ENTER keys to change to a DOS Box
  199.     Window (if not already in a Windowed session) and click on the top left
  200.     hand corner of the DOS Box Window. A drop down menu will appear and
  201.     at which point you should select Properties. Select the Misc tab and
  202.     proceed to modify the above mentioned property.
