  8. DESCRIPTION
  9.  
  10.      PSA Cards is an easy to use address program.  It looks
  11.      like a card file and it works like a card file.  Just
  12.      click on a divider tab or card to open or close it.
  13.      
  14.      PSA Cards is also an OLE 2.0 container application.
  15.      This means that you can link or imbed objects
  16.      (pictures, maps, documents, sound and video clips)
  17.      created in other programs in your PSA Cards entries.

  124.      Run the install program, install.exe from the Program
  125.      Manager, Start menu or Explorer.

  127. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS - FROM A DOWNLOADED PSACARDS.EXE

  130.      1. Extract the program and help files by running
  131.      pkunzip from the command prompt.  There are
  132.      eight PSA Cards 2.5B files: cards.exe, cards.hlp, 
  133.      register.txt, readme.txt, convert.exe, cardfile.msc,
  134.      cards.cnt, and sample.car.
  135.      
  136.      There are three system libraries (the *.dll files) which
  137.      will be copied to your system directory by the install 
  138.      program. These are new files from Microsoft.  This version
  139.      of PSA Cards requires them.     
  140.  
  141.      2. Run the install program, install.exe
  142.

  144. LOADING A DATA FILE ON STARTUP
  145.       
  146.      The installation program sets up PSA Cards to automatically 
  147.      open the file "sample.car" each time you double click on
  148.      the PSA Cards icon.  If you want to open a different file
  149.      on program startup, use the Program manager "Properties" 
  150.      command to change the Command Line entry.  The new data 
  151.      file name replaces "sample.car" after the program name 
  152.      (cards.exe).  Be sure to leave a blank between the program 
  153.      name and the file name.

  155.      If you are running Windows 95:
  156.      1. Right click on the Task Bar
  157.      2. Click "Properties"
  158.      3. Click "Start Menu Programs"
  159.      4. Click "Advanced"
  160.      5. Expand Start menu tree to find PSA Cards folder and icon
  161.      6. Right click on PSA Cards shortcut.

  192.      Register command.  If you choose not to use a 
  193.      registration form, be sure to indicate that you are
  194.      registering the Windows NT 3.51 / Windows 95 version 
  195.      so that I can mail the correct diskette.

  197.      COMPUSERVE USERS

  202.      fee is $25.00.  After CompuServe notifies me of your

  211.      allows you to update your data file 20 times before
  212.      registering.  After the 20th update you will still be
  213.      able to access your data, but will not be able to save
  214.      changes to the file until you enter your registration
  215.      code using the Registration command in the Help menu.

  228. INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERTING MICROSOFT CARDFILE FILES
  229.  
  230.      Importing data from a program like Microsoft CardFile
  231.      poses a problem. PSA Cards has specific data fields for
  232.      each type of information that it stores.  That is, it
  233.      makes a distinction between say a street address and a
  234.      phone number. CardFile does not.  There are only two
  235.      fields in CardFile -- the index line and text.
  236.      CardFile data can be converted to input for PSA Cards'
  237.      ASCII import function if the information on each card
  238.      is in a consistent order and the file contains no
  239.      imbedded objects (remove all OLE stuff).
  240.      
  241.      There is a grubby little DOS application in this
  242.      package called convert.exe.  Convert reads a CardFile
  243.      file and attempts to find the appropriate places for
  244.      field delimiters in the card and writes an output file
  245.      for the import function in PSA Cards:
  246.           
  247.           CardFile file -> Convert.exe -> PSA Cards ASCII
  248.           import
  249.           
  250.      Convert uses the following rules to insert field
  251.      delimiters.
  252.      
  253.      *    Newlines (carriage return, line feed) are replaced by a
  254.           delimiter.
  255.      
  256.      *    Multiple newlines only generate one delimiter.
  257.      
  258.      *    A comma followed by a blank is replaced by a delimiter.
  259.           This can be turned off (option c-).
  260.      
  261.      *    If comma-blank is being replaced by a delimiter, the
  262.           index line  will always generate two fields.  The second
  263.           field may be empty.
  264.      
  265.      *    A single blank after a letter followed by five digits
  266.           will be replaced by a delimiter.  This is assumed to be the
  267.           ZIP code.  This can also be turned off (option z-).
  268.      
  269.      Convert writes a field definition record as the first
  270.      line of the output file.  It assumes that the delimiter
  271.      is ! and that the fields are in the following order:
  272.      
  273.           !lname1 fname1 street city state zip phone1
  274.           comment
  275.  
  276.      If your CardFile has a different order or different
  277.      fields, the first line of the output file will have to
  278.      be edited.  Use the DOS editor, or Notepad.  Be sure to
  279.      use "No conversion" if you must use Write.  You may
  280.      also have to fix up individual records if your input
  281.      file is not consistent enough or you encounter
  282.      situations not handled properly by the above rules.
  283.      You can also edit individual cards once they have been
  284.      imported to PSA Cards.
  285.

  287.      about the file import function in PSA Cards.

  289.      Convert has been tested with files written by the
  290.      CardFile in Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and Windows NT.
  291.      I can only assume that the same program is used in
  292.      Windows 3.1.  There is an example CardFile file
  293.      included.  It is called cardfile.msc.  If you turn on
  294.      Convert output to the screen (/s+) you can pipe your
  295.      output to "more".  To see how Convert works, type the
  296.      following command in DOS or a DOS window while in the
  297.      PSA Cards directory:

  299.           >convert  /s+  cardfile.msc  imptcard.adr  |  more
  300.  
  301.      Then run PSA Cards from Windows and use the "Import..."
  302.      command (File menu) to read imptcard.adr.
  303.

  305. KNOWN PROBLEMS
  306.  
  307.      *    The Equation Editor for Microsoft Word does not always
  308.           work properly with OLE 2.0 container applications.  This 
  309.           version of PSA Cards will not recognize the Equation
  310.           Editor.  Word itself and its other associated OLE
  311.           servers work OK.
  312.      
  313.      *    The Help buttons in the OLE dialog boxes for Change
  314.           Icon and the OLE File Browser do not do anything.
  315.      
  316.      *    Context sensitive help for the Object command in the
  317.           OLE menu does not link to the correct help topic.
  318.      
  319.      These bugs are related to OLE 2.0 components supplied
  320.      by Microsoft.
