  62. 2.0     Installation Notes for OS/2
  63.  
  64.  
  65. 1) Insert disk #1 and run INSTALL from within a full screen DOS session
  66.    (under OS/2) and check the "Set Power-Up Configuration" to ensure that you
  67.    have selected an appropriate monitor type:
  68.  
  69.     a) OS/2 requires that the 640x480 resolution be configured for the IBM
  70.        default 60Hz vertical refresh rate.
  71.     b) You must configure the card for all resolutions that your monitor
  72.        can support in order to have them functioning correctly under OS/2.
  73.  
  74. 2) Check The Minimized Window Viewer to see if you have any WIN-OS/2 or
  75.    DOS sessions iconized. Close them all as the INSTALL may not work
  76.    if a WIN-OS/2 session is running.
  77.  
  78. Note: Do not task switch while running the INSTALL program.
  79.  
  80. 3) From the INSTALL Main Selection Menu, select Install Device Drivers
  81.    and pick Presentation Manager.  Then follow the instructions given
  82.    on the screen.
  83.  
  84. Note:  If PM Desktop does not reappear after exiting from the full screen
  85.        DOS session, pressing <Enter> will bring you back to full screen.
  86.        If this occurs, you must reboot to get back to the PM Desktop.
  87.  
  88. 5) Run DSPINSTL from within an OS/2 window.
  89.  
  90. 6) When the Display Driver Install panel appears, select Primary Display
  91.    and click OK to bring up a list of choices.  You should see an option for
  92.    ATI mach32.
  93.  
  94. 7) Select 'ATI Technologies mach32' from the list and click OK. If a
  95.    error message pops-up, which says "The installed adapter does not support
  96.    the selected display driver.  Do you wish to continue?" ignore it and
  97.    click OK.
  98.  
  99. 8) When the source directory panel appears, select 'Change' and enter:
  100.    C:\MACH_OS2 (replace c: with your boot drive letter if you don't use c)
  101.    Click 'Set' and then 'Install'. After the files are copied, exit the OS/2
  102.    window or full screen session. Shut down and restart your system.
  103.  
  104. 9) The PM driver will first come up in 640x480, 256 colors mode.  Use the
  105.    following steps to change the screen resolutions or number of colors:
  106.  
  107.    a) Open 'OS/2 System' icon.
  108.    b) Open 'System Setup' icon.
  109.    c) Open 'System' icon.
  110.    b) Select the 'Screen' tab.
  111.    e) Select the desired resolution and number of colors from the list.
  112.    f) Double click on the system menu icon or select close from the system
  113.       menu to close the window.
  114.    g) Shut down and restart your system.
  115.

  117. 2.1     Uninstalling the OS/2 drivers
  118.  
  119. 1. Open an OS/2 window or OS/2 Full Screen icon and type:
  120.    DSPINSTL <enter>.
  121.  
  122. 2. Select Primary Display and click OK to bring up a list of choices. Select
  123.    "Video Graphics Array (VGA) from the list.
  124.  
  125. 3. When the source directory panel appears, insert the OS/2 /Display Driver
  126.    diskette.  Select the drive and path name where the VGA driver resides
  127.    (typically A: or B:), choose Set and then choose Install.
  128.  
  129. 4. After the install is complete, shut down and restart your system.
  130.  
  131. Note:  After completing step 4, OS/2 is using VGA for a display.  If you
  132.        wish to remove the mach32 files from you hard drive continue on.
  133.  
  134. 5. Restart OS/2 and open a full screen DOS session.
  135.  
  136. 6. Insert the Graphics Ultra Pro disk #1 in the appropriate drive.  Change
  137.    directories to the floppy drive and type: INSTALL <enter>.
  138.  
  139. 7. Select Install Device Driver from the Main Selection Menu.
  140.  
  141. 8. Select Presentation Manager from the list of applications.
  142.  
  143. 9  Select UNINSTALL OS/2 Drivers, and follow the instructions on the
  144.    screen.

  148. 3.0     Driver Corrections and Updates
  149.  
  150.  
  151. 1. This driver now installs over the OS/2 2.11 service pack XR06200.
  152.  
  153.  
  154. 2. Full screen drivers will now work on systems with a disabled memory
  155.    aperture, by enabling the virtual aperture (VAD).
  156.  
  157.    To enable/disable the memory aperture, insert disk #1 and run INSTALL from
  158.    within a full screen DOS session (under OS/2) and select the "Set Power-Up
  159.    Configuration".  Select the "Memory Aperture from the "Set Power-Up
  160.    Configuration" menu.
  161.  
  162.    "Memory Aperture" will not appear in the "Set Power-Up Configuration" menu
  163.    if you are using an ISA or PCI mach32 card.  ISA cards do not support the
  164.    memory aperture (i.e. memory aperture is disabled).  PCI cards
  165.    automatically configure the memory aperture. (i.e. memory aperture is
  166.    enabled).
  167.  
  168.    To enable the virtual aperture, ensure that the memory aperture is disabled
  169.    and then make the following change to the WIN.INI file under the [Mach]
  170.    section:
  171.  
  172.        VAD=on
  173.  
  174.    To disable the virtual aperture, ensure that the memory aperture is enabled
  175.    and then make the following change to the WIN.INI file under the [Mach]
  176.    section:
  177.  
  178.        VAD=off
  179.  
  180. 3. If you use the mach32 with the virtual aperture enabled, and also use
  181.    the OS/2 debug kernel, you must copy the file VMACH32D.SYS from the
  182.    mach_OS2 directory to your \OS2\MDOS directory. In addition, the line
  183.    in config.sys that reads:
  184.  
  185.         DEVICE=\OS2\MDOS\VMACH32.SYS
  186.  
  187.    must be changed to:
  188.  
  189.         DEVICE=\OS2\MDOS\VMACH32D.SYS
  190.  
  191.    This should only affect device driver developers, or other developers
  192.    who use the OS/2 kernel level debugger.

  196. 4.0     Known Problems
  197.  
  198. - Corrupt Icons:
  199.  
  200.     Task switching between full screen DOS applications and the PM Desktop
  201.     may result in corrupt icons.
  202.  
  203.     Icons created for 265 color displays may not display correctly at higher
  204.     color depths (i.e. 65,000, 16.7 Million)
  205.  
  206. - Corrupt DOS screens:
  207.  
  208.     Task switching between a full screen DOS graphics display and the PM
  209.     Desktop, may cause the DOS session to become corrupt.  To correct the
  210.     problem, refresh the DOS screen.
  211.  
  212. - Draw for OS/2 (Ver. 3.0):
  213.  
  214.     Using the mach32 16.7 million color display drivers may result in
  215.     Draw 3.0 displaying only in monochrome.  This problem will occur
  216.     at 640x480 and 800x600 resolutions.
  217.  
  218. - Designer for OS/2 (Ver 3.1), SlideShow:
  219.  
  220.     Using any mach32 16.7 million color display driver may result in garbage
  221.     characters being displayed in the SlideShow option of Designer 3.1.
  222.  
  223. - Designer for OS/2 (Ver 3.1), Bitmap:
  224.  
  225.     Try to draw a box and fill it with bitmap. The display may become corrupt
  226.     with the bitmap window displayed correctly, but all boxes are white or
  227.     dark color.
  228.  
  229. - Corrupted characters and icon in MS-WORD (Ver 2.0C):
  230.  
  231.     Task switching between the PM desktop and MS WORD, running full screen,
  232.     may cause corrupted characters and drawing icons are generated.  This
  233.     problem may occur at any resolution or color depth.
  234.  
  235. - AVI Playback:
  236.  
  237.     Do not move the playback window, while an AVI is running.  Moving the
  238.     window, may result in an internal processing error.
  239.  
  240.  
  241. - 8514/a display:
  242.  
  243.     In order to sucessfully install the 8514a driver over the ATI driver
  244.     make a copy of the DISPLAY DRIVER 2 (DISP 2) diskette, that comes with
  245.     OS/2 2.11 and copy the file PSBGA32B.DSP to it.  This will update the
  246.     8514/a display driver selection, for use with the DPSINSTL command.

  248. - Windows Sessions:
  249.  
  250.     If Windows applications do not run correctly, check the CONFIG.SYS file
  251.     to ensure that the device reference to VVGA.SYS preceeds the device
  252.     reference to VMACH32.SYS:
  253.  
  254.     DEVICE=<drive>:\OS2\MDOS\VVGA.SYS
  255.     DEVICE=<drive>:\OS2\MDOS\VMACH32.SYS
