  6. What's Available
  7.  
  8.     There are "do-nothing-useful" examples of various capabilities of
  9.     the AMIGA, real development tools, editors, languages, games, and
  10.     other odds & ends.  Also included are machine readable form of many
  11.     of the examples (received directly from C-A sources) out of the
  12.     official AMIGA manuals, including the ROM Kernel Manual.

  15. How To Obtain Disks
  16.  
  17.     First, check with your local dealers and user groups.  Most already
  18.     have many of the disks.  Since these disks can be copied freely,
  19.     and widespread distribution is encouraged, they propagate out to 
  20.     central distribution points fairly quickly.
  21.  
  22.     If you just can't wait, or can't find copies locally, I am willing
  23.     to make these disks available for the cost of media, duplication,
  24.     mailing materials, postage, and miscellaneous expenses (like wear
  25.     and tear on my drives).  Naturally, you are encouraged to make
  26.     copies for your friends, local user groups, dealers, etc.  My goal
  27.     is to get as much software as possible into the hands of people that
  28.     can use and enhance it, and make the AMIGA the success it deserves
  29.     to be.

  31.     Generally, each disk contains all source necessary to recreate the
  32.     executables provided.  Programs are compiled with the latest Lattice 
  33.     C compiler (and/or Manx C compiler) available at the time of 
  34.     release.  In a very few cases (usually noted in the description) the
  35.     code will not compile or run for some reason, but was considered
  36.     interesting enough to include anyway.

  38.     Disks are typically 85 to 95 percent full.

  41. How to Order

  43.     To order, send a list of the disks you want, and payment in U.S.
  44.     funds to:

  52.     The per disk fee as of October 1989 is as follows:

  54.         1   to 9 disks        $6 per disk
  55.         10  to 49 disks        $5 per disk
  56.         50  to 99 disks        $4 per disk
  57.         100 or more        $3 per disk
  58.         complete library    $2 per disk    (see note below)

  60.     The price includes cost of media, mailing materials, and first class
  61.     domestic postage.  Overseas orders add $5 per order for air mail.
  62.     Time and other jobs permitting, all disks will be mailed within
  63.     5 days of receipt of order (most are filled the next day).

  65.     The above prices and address are current as of October 1989.  If
  66.     the per disk charge in effect at the time your order is received
  67.     is less than the amount stated above, you will be charged the lower
  68.     rate, and an appropriate credit for the difference added to your
  69.     account.  It is highly unlikely that the per disk charge will be
  70.     higher (it has always decreased, reflecting my decreasing cost for
  71.     disks since beginning distribution of the library).

  73.     Feel free to order more than the current number of disks available.
  74.     Excess funds will be placed "in escrow" (refundable at any time) 
  75.     and drawn against for automatic mailings of future disks as they 
  76.     become available.  These disks will be charged against your account
  77.     at the per disk charge in effect at the time they are shipped.
  78.     I hope to add at least four to six disks per month to the library.

  80.     The "complete library" price ($2 per disk) applies only to orders
  81.     of a complete set of all disks in the library at the time of the
  82.     order.  The funds cannot be applied towards disks not yet completed.
  83.     This offer is intended to provide a relatively low startup cost
  84.     for new user groups, dealers, or other users, to obtain a complete
  85.     library set.

  88. Notes
  89.  
  90.     Please keep in mind that most of the materials in this library are
  91.     intended for use by experienced programmers, or at least experienced 
  92.     Amiga users.  Many are runnable only via the CLI user interface, as 
  93.     they contain no icon files (particularly the early disks).  If you
  94.     are inexperienced with the Amiga CLI interface, you may need the
  95.     assistance of an experienced user to make use of some of these disks.
  96.     I do not provide telephone support for instructions on how to
  97.     run specific programs from the library.

  99.     I do not guarantee the performance or usability of any of the 
  100.     materials in this library.  I will replace or rewrite, at no
  101.     additional charge, any disk ordered from me which turns out to be
  102.     defective or unreadable.

  105. Catalog Disk
  106.  
  107.     Because the current library has grown so large, it is no longer cost
  108.     effective to distribute a printed catalog.  Therefore, the catalog
  109.     disks replace the printed catalog, and will be updated at each new
  110.     release of disks to reflect the current state of the library.  It
  111.     currently takes two disks to hold a complete catalog.

  113.     There is no duplication fee for the catalog disks.  To receive the
  114.     latest available catalog at any time, simply return the original 
  115.     disks, or send two blank disks, to:

  125.     Note that you can always obtain the latest catalog automatically
  126.     by following the above procedure but specifying that you want
  127.     the disks to be held until the next update.

  130. Library Submissions
  131.  
  132.     If you have written a program that you would like to see appear
  133.     in the library, I encourage you to submit it on disk directly to
  134.     me, along with a letter indicating you would like to see it
  135.     included in the library.  You can increase the chances of your
  136.     submission being accepted by following a few simple guidelines:
  137.  
  138.     (1)    Don't submit bootable disks or disks with any other
  139.         proprietary material included, since I then have to
  140.         go examine each file to decide if it is distributable
  141.         or not, and if not, what effect removing it might have.
  142.  
  143.     (2)    Organize the distribution in a manner similar to the
  144.         library disk organization.  I.E., place all files
  145.         related to a particular program under a single directory
  146.         on the disk.  If there is more than one program per disk,
  147.         place each one in its own directory.
  148.  
  149.     (3)    Try to write a simple entry for the "Contents" listing
  150.         that summarizes your submission.  It should be about 
  151.         3-10 lines, and include the current version number, the
  152.         version and disk number of the most recent version
  153.         (if any) that was last included in the library, whether
  154.         or not source is included, and an "Author" list.
  155.  
  156.     (4)    Ensure that your submission will run correctly from
  157.         its subdirectory and that it does not depend upon the
  158.         name of the disk.  If necessary, supply a script
  159.         runnable from workbench (via c:IconX) that makes all
  160.         necessary assigns, copies fonts and libraries, etc.

  163. CAT FISH Catalog Listing
  164.  
  165.     A complete catalog over 280 pages and full of interesting
  166.     information of the entire library cross-referenced by file name
  167.     and subject area is available from the ASCITEC AMIGA User's Group
  168.     now for $20.00.  These listings are made using a laser printer
  169.     on double-sided three-hole punched paper for a quality binder
  170.     reference and contain information on disks currently available
  171.     in the library.  Some of the contents include:
  172.  
  173.         Complete listings of all disks and file descriptions
  174.         (README and CONTENTS files) with disk numbers and page
  175.         numbers for each file.  Currently over 210 pages.
  176.  
  177.         An alphabetic sorted file name cross-reference listing
  178.         with disk and page numbers given for each file.  Duplicate
  179.         file names are sorted with the most recent listed first.
  180.         Currently over 31 pages.
  181.  
  182.         A subject category sorted file name cross-reference listing
  183.         based on a three page 15 point major subject category
  184.         outline with disk and page numbers given for each file.
  185.         Currently contains 106 total categories and over 37 pages.

  187.         CLI notes for accessing any public domain disk file for
  188.         reading, copying, and execution of files on the disks.
  189.  
  190.     Future upgrades are easily obtained by mail at a low cost.

  192.     The complete CAT FISH library listings cost $20.00.  Future
  193.     upgrades will cost $7.00.  USA taxes and mailing costs are
  194.     included.  Mailing outside of the USA  and Canada will cost an
  195.     additional $5.00.  Other information will also be included in
  196.     future upgrades based upon prompt user suggestions and feedback.
