  3. It is strongly recommended to first uninstall any installed versions of the following software:
  4. - KaZaA
  5. - KaZaA Lite
  6. - Grokster
  7. - Sig2Dat
  8. - FastTrack Accelerator (a.k.a Speed Up)

  11. ====[ Description of Components ]====

  13. - KaZaA Lite -
  14.  
  15. This is the main program. It is a modified version of the original KaZaA. The difference is that it does not contain any spyware and adware. With this version it is also possible to download high quality mp3 files because the bitratelimit was removed.
  16. The custom startup page will only work if you install in the default location (c:\program files\kazaa lite\). Otherwise you will get an 'error not found' page.

  19. - Speed Up (optional) -

  21. This is an add-on tool for KaZaA Lite. It is a download accelerator, which automaticly searches for more sources to download from.

  24. - Sig2Dat (optional) -

  26. With this tool you can easily download verified files by clicking on a Sig2Dat hyperlink (these are posted on various websites and forums). This tool will automaticly create a partial download file for you, so you can download the exact same file without having to search for it yourself.

  29. - Dat View (optional) -

  31. This tool can be used to extract information out of your .dat files.
  32. Such as filenames, sizes, usernames, the file data, etc.

  35. - AVI Previewer (optional) -

  37. This tool can be used to preview your partial movie downloads, even while they are downloading.

  40. - Supertrick (optional) -

  42. This is a method to block certain websites/servers using a standard Windows file called 'Hosts'. We have customized this file to block a lot of advertising and pop-ups.

  44. If you already have your own customized Hosts file, you should not install the Supertrick, or backup your current file.

During this install a dummy file called 'cd_clint.dll' will be copied to the KaZaA Lite installation directory. This is NOT a Spyware component, but a completely harmless substitute for that file, which is required by KaZaA. Don't delete it because it will make KaZaA Lite stop functioning. If you find this file in another directory than the installation directory of KaZaA Lite, you should delete it.
  50. The newest version of Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoft.de) knows the difference between the real file and our dummy file, old versions only checked on filenames.
