  1. Welcome to RefreshLock for Windows NT/2000/XP!

  8. QUICK START
  9.  
  10. This program runs direct from the .exe, so place the RefreshLock directory
  11. wherever you want it to run from first.
  12.  
  13. 1) SAVE ALL YOUR WORK
  14.  
  15. 2) Make sure you are using the correct monitor drivers, not the Plug & Play ones
  16.    (the Plug & Play drivers mostly do NOT give the best frequencies).
  17.  
  18. 3) Click the 'On' button in the main window, then save your settings.
  19.  
  20. 4) Once confident with the program, you can try the Advanced Settings, where
  21.    you can, for example, optimize your PC's default mode, hide the system tray
  22.    icon, and auto-run the program when you log on to your PC.

  25. PROBLEMS
  26.  
  27. 1) Display corruption in games: Try minimizing ALL your other running programs
  28.    BEFORE playing the game.  Some Windows programs are display-change sensitive,
  29.    and may be disrupted by the mode override.
  30.  
  31. 2) Computer slowing down: Try turning off the "Allocate some (small) CPU time to
  32.    enforcing modes", in the Advanced Settings.
  33.  
  34. 3) Computer booting in corrupt mode: I'm afraid you're going to have to reboot
  35.    your PC in safe mode:
  36.    i   ) Hold F8 when your computer starts.
  37.    ii  ) Boot into Safe Mode.
  38.    iii ) Log on as an Administrator if necessary.
  39.    iv  ) Move RefreshLock to another directory or delete it, so it cannot start.
  40.    v   ) Find your way to the Display Control Panel by right-clicking a blank
  41.          part of the desktop and clicking 'Properties'.
  42.    vi  ) Click the Settings tab in the new 'Display Properties' window.
  43.    vii ) Click the 'Advanced' button.
  44.    viii) Click the 'Monitor' tab.
  45.    ix  ) Change the 'Screen refresh rate' to it's lowest setting, or a mode
  46.          compatible with your monitor.
  47.  
  48. 4) Computer booting in the wrong mode: follow steps (v)-(vi) as above, and adjust
  49.    your desktop resolution in this window to what you want it to be at.

  51. If you do not understand any of this, get a computer knowledgable person to help
  52. you.

  55. WARNINGS/NOTICES
  56.  
  57. If you change monitors, make sure you change the driver with it.  Just remember
  58. if you have RefreshLock running on startup, or you have chosen to update the
  59. default Windows mode, you MAY damage your new monitor if it isn't detected
  60. properly when your PC starts up.  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

  75. DATA THIS PROGRAM STORES
  76.  
  77. This program writes your configuration settings to %WINDIR%\RefreshLock.ini, and
  78. stores a value named 'RefreshLock' in the registry at
  79. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run,
  80. if you choose to have the program run on startup.  It is NOT recommended you
  81. modify the .ini file manually, however you may safely delete the .ini file, or
  82. the registry value.
