- I hope this programme will be of help to those with
- young children and particularly those parents of
- toddlers who may suffer from ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit
- /Hyperactivity Disorder).
-
- Children who suffer with ADD usually have very short
- attention spans, give the appearance of daydreaming and
- have great difficulty concentrating on any one thing.
- Children with the added hyperactive element i.e. ADHD
- are in addition to the above, often very restless
- appearing to be permanently on the go, destructive
- without thinking, constantly talking/shouting and
- requiring very little sleep. These are just some of the
- possible symptoms. You can find out more by visiting our
- website (address below).
-
- Many of the above symptoms manifest themselves in very
- early childhood i.e. often from age 2. With early
- identification these children can be helped at a very
- early stage and receive the right support as they start
- playgroup and school.
-
- At present many parents are living this "nightmare" and
- more often than not these children are not diagnosed
- until age 10 or above when people finally realise there
- may be a problem.
-
- By the use of this programme aimed more at younger
- children it is hoped that some parents may be made
- aware of this disorder whilst their children are at
- a young age, so that if the symptoms above are being
- displayed they may seek help now and reap the benefits
- of early detection.
-
- It is often the case that these disorders can be so
- stressful in a family situation that a total family
- breakdown results. It is not uncommon for ADD/ADHD
- children to be in one parent families. If this programme
- succesfully highlights the problem for just one family
- then it has been worth it.
