  4. The named daemon and support utilities such as dig, dnsquery, host,
  5. nslookup, nsquery, and nstest.  Documentation on setting up a name
  6. server will be installed in /usr/doc/bind-4.9.7-REL/.

  8. As of this writing, the most recent version of BIND is 8.1.2-REL, which is
  9. the version included with Slackware's N (networking) series of packages.
  10. However, the configuration file format is changed in BIND-8, so there are
  11. still some sites that may wish to run this older version of BIND instead.

  13. To use this, first you should be sure there's no other version of BIND
  14. installed on your system.  Change into /var/log/packages, and if you see
  15. files named "bind", or "bind-x.x.x" (where x.x.x is some version number),
  16. then use "less" to take a look at the contents and see if the package(s)
  17. really are BIND packages.  If they are, you'll want to remove them.  For
  18. example:

  20.  removepkg bind
  21.  
  22. To install this version of BIND, use Slackware's "installpkg" utility:

  24.  installpkg bind-4.tgz
  25.  
  26. If you don't have that, you can install it using "tar" from the root directory:

  28.  cd / ; tar xzvf bind-4.tgz
