- IFF2PCXII is an image conversion utility which converts IFF Amiga files
- to IBM PC PCX image files. Most PC paint and DTP packages have a facility
- to load PCX image files, so use of this conversion utility would give a
- PC user access to the enormous amount of Amiga artwork now available from
- many sources. The IFF file can be either interlace or non-interlace.
- HAM IFF images are not supported.

-
- Operation:
-
- IFF2PCXII runs from a workbench icon or the CLI. On running
- IFF2PCXII the program window opens and there are four gadgets to
- pick from:
-
- 1) Pick IFF. Selecting this gadget displays a file requester
- from which you choose the IFF file you wish to convert to PCX.
- You can select more than one file for conversion by holding down
- the shift key while picking the files upto a maximum of 500.
-
- 2) PCX Dir. Picking this gadget displays a file requester from which
- you choose the directory into which your PCX files will be placed.
- If you don't specify a PCX destination directory, the PCX files will
- be placed in the same directory as the IFF source file(s).
-
- 3) Convert. Picking this gadget starts the file conversion process. The
- IFF file(s) specified in 'Pick IFF' are read from the disk, displayed,
- converted to PCX and written out to the PCX destination directory
- if specified. IFF filenames are converted to the MSDOS filename
- format, such that an IFF file with name MYBESTPICCY, would be converted
- to a PCX file named MYBESTPI.PCX.
-
- 4) View IFF. Picking this gadget displays a file requester from which
- you can pick an IFF file to view. When the IFF picture is displayed
- press the left mouse button to clear it.
-
- To exit IFF2PCXII pick the close window gadget.

-
- Transferring files to the PC:
- Now we've converted our images to PC PCX format, we have to get them
- onto the PC. This can be done by using one of the MS-DOS to AmigaDOS
- disk transfer utilities, such as Cross-DOS, DOS to DOS or the PD
- Messy DOS.

-
-
- Limitations:
- The standard graphics adaptors on the PC such as VGA and EGA will
- only support 16 colours on screen at the same time, so there
- is no point in converting IFF images with more than 16 colours. If
- you have an image with more than 16 colours that you wish to
- convert I suggest you use one of the popular IFF image manipulation
- utilities such as PixMate or Butcher. These utilities enable you to
- very easily reduce the number of colours in the image to 16 while
- only degrading the image quality very slightly.

-
- System Rquirements:
-
- **** IMPORTANT *****
-
- IFF2PCXII makes use of two Amiga runtime libraries, these are:
- A requester library called req.library and an IFF/ILBM library
- call ilbm.library. Both these libraies must be in you libs directory
- for IFF2PCXII to function correctly. I have included a copy of these
- two libraries in the libs directory of this disk.
-
- IFF2PCXII will work on any Amiga with 512K of memory.
