- A500Test
- --------
-
- What it Does..
- --------------
-
- When you double-click on the A500Test icon, the Amiga will go through a
- number of self test phases. The first test is a test for the sound chip -
- Paula. Each channel in turn will play a small scale.
- The next test is of the low-pass sound filter. You should see the power
- light flash on and off every other second whilst the Paula chip holds a
- single note.
- After that, all 4 sound channels are tested at the same time.
- Next comes the colour test. On the right hand side is written the name of
- a particular colour. The blitter chip will then move the correct colour onto
- the name of the colour. Once all colours are in place, they will all be
- shifted down at the same time. Watch the ends of each colour to make sure
- they are all in line and none are faster than others. You will of course see
- a slight descrepency, so not all colours will be aligned, but that's life
- i'm afraid, which just goes to show that not all Amiga's are built with the
- same components. For example, some Amiga's have a faster processor than
- other Amiga's. The speed is not drastically different, only negledgible. It
- all depends on what make your 68000 cpu is. Generally Motorola is the
- fastest, because they make the best chips. Also some memory chips are
- slightly faster than others. This depends on the Nano-second rating and
- whether they are DRAMs(Dynamic Random Access Memory.) This, of course, also
- depends on when exactly a particular Amiga was assembled, since the price of
- memory chips fluctuate so much.
- Anyway, don't be too worried about what you have just heard, as long as
- your Amiga functions correctly, you've got nothing to worry about.
