  157.
  158.
  159. 4.4 Installation Notes
  160. ----------------------
  161.
  162.   1. During the installation of this driver, DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files
  163.      are created in \OS2\INSTALL directory. These files identify the OS/2 system
  164.      files that were updated and indicate whether the install was successful.
  165.      The DISPLAY.LOG file also contains a string which identifies the version of
  166.      driver that was installed. This information may be important when reporting
  167.      an installation problem.
  168.
  169.   2. During installation, DSPINSTL will invoke the SVGA Configuration program
  170.      SVGA.EXE to determine the hardware configuration, and create the file
  171.      \OS2\INSTALL\SVGADATA.PMI. If this file is not created, the adapter will
  172.      not be supported. When this step is done, the display will be blanked, and
  173.      you may see a series of flashes on the display, and what appears to be a
  174.      "corrupted" display. This is normal, as the configuration process is doing
  175.      Video BIOS mode sets to determine which screen resolutions BIOS supports.
  176.      This configuration information is then used to provide the System-Settings
  177.      Resolution and Refresh selections.
  178.
  179. 5.0 WIN-OS/2 Sessions
  180. ---------------------
  181.
  182. Please note the following limitations regarding WIN-OS/2.
  183.
  184.   1. It is recommended that the user start all WIN-OS/2 sessions via one of the
  185.      WIN-OS/2 icons in the Command Prompts folder.
  186.
  187.   2. The WIN-OS/2 session settings for both WIN-OS/2 Full Screen and WIN-OS/2
  188.      Window should be set to Enhanced Capability. The default setting is
  189.      Standard Mode. If this setting is not changed, Windows will not run
  190.      correctly. To make this change, do the following:
  191.
  192.      1. Open the OS/2 System Folder.
  193.      2. Open Command Prompts Folder.
  194.      3. Place the mouse pointer over WIN-OS/2 Full Screen ( or WIN-OS/2 Window )
  195.     icon and press mouse button 2 ( right button) to bring up the menu.
  196.      4. Select Settings.
  197.      5. Place the mouse pointer over the Session tab, and select by pressing
  198.     mouse button 1 ( left button ).
  199.      6. Place mouse pointer over Win-OS/2 Settings, and select by pressing
  200.     mouse button 1 ( left button ).
  201.      7. From the Win-OS/2 Settings - Categories, select All DOS and WIN-OS/2
  202.         Settings and then select OK.
  203.      8. From the list of settings that appear, make sure that
  204.         WIN_RUN_MODE is set to Enhanced Capability, and then "Save" these
  205.         settings.
  206.
  207.   3. Do not start WIN-OS/2 in a DOS or OS/2 Window.  The system does
  208.      not support the enhanced video mode being used in a window, and
  209.      therefore will not run.
  210.
  211.   4. When running a full screen WIN-OS/2 session, do not use ALT-HOME to
  212.      switch to Windowed DOS session.
  213.
  214.   5. The Windows SYSTEM.INI file may need to be modified to select the
  215.      correct mouse driver for use on the target system. The default is
  216.      MOUSE.DRV=MOUSE.DRV. Some manufacturers may use a different mouse driver
  217.      than the default, and the driver may reside in a directory other than
  218.      the Windows root directory. In SYSTEM.INI, you will find two statements
  219.      that specify the filename of the current mouse driver, MOUSE.DRV=  and
  220.      OS2MOUSE.DRV=  . Make sure that OS2MOUSE.DRV=  specifies the same mouse
  221.      driver and path as MOUSE.DRV= .
  222.
  223.      Example:   MOUSE.DRV=LMOUSE.DRV     ; installed by Windows
  224.               OS2MOUSE.DRV=LMOUSE.DRV  ; installed by OS/2 Install
  225.
  226.      If OS2MOUSE.DRV does not point to the correct mouse driver, then
  227.      WIN-OS/2 Full Screen and WIN-OS/2 Window sessions will not run.
  228.
  229.
  230. 6.0 Installation Diskette Copy
  231. ------------------------------
  232.
  233. For proper installation of OS/2 drivers, all diskette copies must be properly
  234. labeled "CTDISP 1".
  235.
  236. To copy the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette, do the following steps:
  237.
  238.    1. Copy all files on the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette as you normally would
  239.       onto another diskette.
  240.
  241.    2. Place the diskette copy in drive A.  At the C:\ prompt,
  242.       type LABEL A: CTDISP 1 to properly label your diskette.  Then store
  243.       your diskette copy in a safe place.
  244.
  245. 7.0 Installation on Merlin ( OS/2 4.0 )
  246. ---------------------------------------
  247.
  248. If you are installing these drivers on Merlin and you receive the following
  249. error message:
  250.
  251.  "This fixpack is intended for OS/2 versions 4.00,3.01,3.00,2.11,2.10 only !"
  252.
  253. the install script has not correctly identified the Merlin version id. This
  254. will require editing SETUP.CMD on this disk to function correctly.
  255.
  256. Find the following source lines in SETUP.CMD:
  257.
  258.    IF ERRORLEVEL 210 set dsc=%src%\prereqs.dsc&& set cfg=%src%\vcfginst.exe&& GOTO VER_WARP
  259.    GOTO VER_NOT_OK
  260.    :VER_MERLIN
  261.    copy %src%\chipm*.dsc %trg%\os2\install\chips*.dsc >NUL
  262.
  263. Change these lines as follows:
  264.
  265.    IF ERRORLEVEL 210 set dsc=%src%\prereqs.dsc&& set cfg=%src%\vcfginst.exe&& GOTO VER_WARP
  266.    set dsc=%src%\prereqs.dsc
  267.    :VER_MERLIN
  268.    copy %src%\chipm*.dsc %trg%\os2\install\chips*.dsc >NUL
  269.
  270. The install will now default to Merlin, and the drivers will get installed
  271. correctly. Reference section 4.2 above and start install again.
  272.
  273.
