FLASH BIOS Update for IBM PS/2 Model N45 Notebook Computer
To Install the New Version of BIOS:
Copy the file ROMIMAGE.BIN to a Diskette. After the N45 has been turned on and
the DOS prompt is displayed, insert the diskette into the floppy disk drive.
Use CTRL-ALT-INS to get to the Monitor prompt. The machine will re-boot and the
following will be displayed:
MFM-300 Monitor, Version X.X (X.X will be the current version)
Memory Size: 640K + XXXXK + 64K Cache (XXXX varies with total system memory)
->
Type NEWBIOS, press ENTER and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
What release 4.1E Fixes:
1) System would sometimes not save Reverse Video selection in Setup, after power
off. This has been reported by Windows users and has been fixed.
2) Bios routines could fail to execute due to Monitor ram write access (PRIVY)
being off. The routines which enable PRIVY now increment the semaphore
before writing to the PRIVY ENABLE port so that interrupting routines cannot
disable PRIVY.
3) Modified the GET_AUX_DEVICE routine so it would flush any byte from the SCP
output buffer before reading the AUX_DEVICE byte from the SCP. This assures
a keyboard scan can't be mistaken for the AUX_DEVICE byte
4) The Standby Timer Battery field under SETUP's (FN-F5) Power Control Window
was displayed inconsistently. Sometimes it showed (disabled) in the border
shade which is only for fields that cannot be changed. This field can be
changed regardless of the state of the power button setting.
5) IRQ3 and IRQ4 bits are properly set to 1 when they are defined for the
enabled COM1 and COM2 ports.
6) Changed "get power status" function to report Battery low. Previously the
battery condition went from Batt High to Unknown.
7) If CRT is selected in setup, the system will now check to see if the CRT is
attached and automatically switch to LCD if the CRT is not attached. This
prevents the user from powering on or resuming from rest mode to a blank
display.
8) Ring Indicate signals are now checked before entering REST mode. If Ring
Indicate is active and "Resume on Modem Activity" is selected in setup, the
system will not enter REST and display a "Serial Port Active" message. This
message is also displayed if the Carrier Detect signal is active and the
system will not enter REST or STANDBY.
