EUDORA PRO FOR WINDOWS
VERSION 2.2 16- and 32-bit
============================
This version of Eudora Pro for Windows is only for current
Eudora Pro users. You will not be able to install this version
unless you have Eudora Pro for Windows version 2.1 or later
on your PC.
This README provides information on the following topics:
- Minimum Requirements
- The Software archive
- Installation
- New features in 2.2
- Changes from 2.1
- Bug Reports
- Requests for Features
- License and Legal Information
----------------------
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
----------------------
To use Eudora Pro, you must have the following:
- IBM PC or compatible.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 for 16-bit version; Microsoft Windows 95
or Windows NT 3.5 for 32-bit version.
- Winsock 1.1 API compliant networking package (not needed for
serial connection).
- A mail account with an Internet Service Provider or an
Internet-style network.
- Access to your mail account via a modem (9600 bps or higher recommended)
or Internet-style network connection.
----------------------------------
THE SOFTWARE ARCHIVE: 21to22.exe
----------------------------------
This software archive includes all the files you need to upgrade Eudora
Pro for Windows version 2.1 or later (including the 2.2 beta versions) to
version 2.2, 16- or 32-bit. You cannot upgrade from earlier versions of
Eudora, so if you have an earlier version you need to use the appropriate
updater(s) to update to version 2.1.
----------------
INSTALLATION
----------------
These instructions assume that you have a registered copy of Eudora Pro
version 2.1 or later and are installing version 2.2 as an upgrade.
If this is not the case, you will not be able to install version 2.2.
If you do have a registered copy of Eudora Pro version 2.1 or later, but the
installation program will not install version 2.2, please call Eudora
technical support or report the problem to the Eudora technical support
coordinator at your site.
To install version 2.2, download the software archive (21to22.exe) into a
directory on your PC. Double click on the archive to unpack it into the
same directory, then follow these directions:
1. Exit any applications you are running.
2. In the Windows Explorer or File Manager, double-click on Setup.exe
to start the Setup program.
3. Read the Welcome screen, then click Next.
4. Specify your current Eudora directory to install Eudora Pro,
then click Next.
The Setup program determines what operating system you are running
and installs the 16- or 32-bit version of Eudora Pro as appropriate.
If the 32-bit version of Eudora Pro should be installed but you do not
have 32-bit TCP/IP software, you will receive an error message.
The 32-bit version will not work without 32-bit TCP/IP software,
so you are given a choice to install the 16-bit version instead.
5. Verify that the displayed settings are correct, then click Next
(or use the Back button if you need to go back and make changes).
6. Eudora Pro 2.2 is installed in the destination directory, and you are
prompted for whether or not you want to view the README file. Click Yes.
----------------------
New Features in 2.2
----------------------
* A native, fully compatible 32-bit application for the Windows 95
and Windows NT operating systems.
* A MAPI utility that lets you use Eudora to send e-mail with attached
files directly from your MAPI-compatible applications (word processors,
spreadsheets, graphics, and other applications).
* Context-sensitive on-line Help that lets you click on items in the user
interface to read brief explanations of what the items do.
* Access to Eudora commands from the right mouse button.
* Active URLs that automatically open your World Wide Web browser
and go to the selected URL (Uniform Resource Locator).
* A Checking Spelling option, Ignore original text, that saves time by not
checking text that came from a previous message.
* A Miscellaneous option for switching messages using the Ctrl+arrow keys.
* A floating toolbar you can place anywhere on your desktop (32-bit
version only).
* A New Mail icon for the Task Bar Tray that displays the number of new
messages (32-bit version under Windows 95 only).
------------------------
Changes from 2.1 to 2.2
------------------------
* The Eudora functions that were in the Window menu are now in a new
Tools menu.
* The Settings dialog is now called Options and is in the new Tools menu.
* In mailbox windows, you can change the Status, Priority, and Label settings
using the right mouse button. You can no longer change these settings using
the left mouse button.
* In the Nicknames window, you can use the right mouse button to toggle
nicknames on and off of the Quick Recipient List. You can no longer do
this using the left mouse button.

BUG REPORTS
-------------
If you experience something you think might be a bug in Eudora, please
report it by sending a message to eudora-bugs@qualcomm.com. Describe what
you did, what happened, what version of Eudora you have, any error messages
Eudora gave (the numbers in ()'s are especially important), what kind of
computer you have, which operating system you're using, and
anything else you think might be relevant.
You will receive an automated response indicating that your bug report has
been received and forwarded to our engineering staff. Unless additional
information is needed, you will not receive a direct response.
----------------------
REQUESTS FOR FEATURES
----------------------
From time to time, everyone comes up with an idea for something they'd
like their software to do differently. This is true of all applications,
no less Eudora. If you come across an idea that you think might make a
nice enhancement to Eudora, your input is always welcome. Please send any
suggestions or requests for new features to eudora-suggest@qualcomm.com.
You will receive an automated response indicating that your suggestion has
been received and forwarded to our engineering staff. Unless additional
information is needed, you will not receive a direct response.
