  19. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  22. To install and use Eudora Pro, you must have the following:
  23.  
  24. -  IBM PC or compatible.
  25. -  Microsoft Windows 3.1 for 16-bit version;
  26.    Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.5 or above
  27.    for 32-bit version.
  28. -  WinSock 1.1 API-compliant networking package
  29.    (not needed for serial connection).
  30. -  A mail account with an Internet Service Provider
  31.    or an Internet-style network.
  32. -  Access to your mail account via a modem
  33.    (9600 BPS or higher recommended) or Internet-style
  34.    network connection.

  38. INSTALLATION
  39. --------------
  40.  
  41. To install Eudora Pro, do the following:
  42.  
  43. 1.   Exit any applications you are running.
  44.  
  45. 2.   If you are installing from a software archive,
  46.      double-click on it to start the Setup program.
  47.  
  48. 3.   Read the Welcome screen, then click the Next button.
  49.      The Software License Agreement is displayed.
  50.  
  51. 4.   Read the Software License Agreement and click Next.
  52.      You can also save and/or print the Agreement by
  53.      selecting its text, entering Ctrl-C to copy it to
  54.      the clipboard, and then pasting into a text
  55.      processing application such as Notepad.
  56.  
  57. 5.   Select the version of the software that you want to
  58.      install, 16- or 32-bit. Based on the operating system
  59.      and connectivity software that you are running, the
  60.      Setup program recommends an appropriate version.
  61.  
  62. 6.   Specify a directory to install Eudora, then click Next.
  63.  
  64. 7.   Verify that the displayed settings are correct, then click
  65.      Next (or use the Back button if you need to go back and make
  66.      changes).
  67.  
  68. 8.   Eudora is installed in the destination directory, and you
  69.      are prompted for whether or not you want to view the README
  70.      file.

  77. Listed below are all the new features, changes, and bug
  78. fixes since version 3.0, all of which are included in
  79. this upgrade. 3.0.4 isn't mentioned in this list, as
  80. there is no Eudora Pro 3.0.4 for Windows.

  84. NEW FEATURES AND CHANGES IN 3.0.5

  87. Auto-configuration (32-bit only)
  88. --------------------------------
  89.  
  90. Auto-configuration support, using the Internet standard
  91. Application Configuration Access Protocol (ACAP), has
  92. been added to Eudora. ACAP is a client/server protocol
  93. which allows Eudora to retrieve configuration settings
  94. from a central server. These settings include the ones
  95. that must be set up in order for you to start sending and
  96. receiving e-mail, such as the name of your POP account and
  97. SMTP host. This saves you from having to enter all of that
  98. information yourself.
  99.  
  100. In order for you to use auto-configuration, your system
  101. administrator or service provider must have set up a central
  102. server with your personal settings. You can then download
  103. those settings whenever you like; typically you would do
  104. so only when first starting to use Eudora, but you can do
  105. so at any later time if you want to restore your settings to
  106. their original values.
  107.  
  108. To download your settings, open the Options dialog under
  109. the Tools menu and click on the Auto-Configure icon. Fill
  110. in the Server Name, User Name, and Password fields; your
  111. system administrator or service provider should have told
  112. you what to enter in these fields. Clicking on the Retrieve
  113. Settings Now button will cause your settings to be downloaded
  114. from the ACAP server.
  115.  
  116. The following ACAP-related information should be of use
  117. primarily to system administrators and/or service providers.
  118.  
  119. If the switch UseACAPServer=1 is present in Eudora.ini,
  120. then when Eudora is first launched (actually any time Eudora
  121. is launched without a POP account having been specified),
  122. the Auto-Configure panel of the Options dialog comes up. In
  123. the absence of that switch, the Options dialog's Getting
  124. Started panel would come up instead.
  125.  
  126. The name of the ACAP server can be specified in Eudora.ini,
  127. so that the user doesn't have to type it in, by inserting a
  128. switch of the form ACAPServer=servername (replacing "servername"
  129. by the actual name, of course). Similarly, a switch of the form
  130. ACAPUserID=username can be used to specify the user name to be
  131. passed to the ACAP server.
  132.  
  133. The port ID used in communicating with the ACAP server can be
  134. specified in Eudora.ini by inserting a switch of the form
  135. ACAPPort=portnumber. The default is port 674.
  136.  
  137. You can obtain detailed information on setting up an ACAP server
  138. to support Eudora clients on the Eudora web site. Go to
  139. http://www.eudora.com/techsupport, click on the "Frequently
  140. Asked Questions (FAQ)" link, and then click on the "Automatic
  141. Initial Configuration with ACAP" link.
  142.  
  143. The upcoming version 2.0 release of the Eudora WorldMail server
  144. will support auto-configuration of Eudora clients.
  145.  
  146. Authentication style and personalities
  147. --------------------------------------
  148.  
  149. Authentication style has been added to the set of information
  150. that goes with a personality.
  151.  
  152. RPA authentication (16-bit)
  153. ---------------------------
  154.  
  155. RPA has been added as an authentication style; this shows up in
  156. the Checking Mail panel of the Options dialog under the Tools menu.
  157. Checking this authentication style allows you to download messages
  158. from a CompuServe POP3 server. This feature has been available in
  159. in the 32-bit version of Eudora starting with version 3.0.3.
  160.  
  161. Pre-configuring the POP server
  162. ------------------------------
  163.  
  164. System administrators can now pre-configure Eudora by putting the
  165. POP server name in Eudora.ini, so that the user only needs to add
  166. his or her account name.
  167.  
  168. If the POPAccount switch in Eudora.ini is of the form
  169. POPAccount=domainname or POPAccount=@domainname, then when Eudora
  170. is launched it will bring up the Getting Started panel of the
  171. Options dialog, and the POP account field will show whatever domain
  172. name is in the POPAccount switch. (Formerly, entering anything
  173. after POPAccount= in Eudora.ini would stop Getting Started from
  174. coming up automatically.)
  175.  
  176. For example, suppose Eudora.ini says POPAccount=@xyz.qualcomm.com.
  177. When the user starts Eudora, Getting Started will automatically
  178. display, with @xyz.qualcomm.com in the POP account field, so that
  179. the user just needs to insert his or her account name at the start
  180. of that string.
  181.  
  182. Enhanced third-party developer support
  183. --------------------------------------
  184.  
  185. Eudora plug-ins that run in the on-arrival context now operate on
  186. all messages, not just ones that are MIME formatted. See the web
  187. page <http://www.eudora.com/developers/emsapi/emswhat.html> for more
  188. information on Eudora plug-in development.

  190. Note for PGP 5.0 users (Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 only)

  193. The original PGP 5.0 is not compatible with Eudora Pro 3.0.5. If
  194. you previously installed PGP 5.0 and wish to continue using it with
  195. Eudora Pro 3.0.5, you need to install an updated version of PGP
  196. 5.0. If you're in the U.S. or Canada, you can download a Eudora
  197. Pro 3.0.5 updater with the new PGP 5.0 from the Eudora web site
  198. (http://www.eudora.com).

  205. *   Very long names no longer cause a crash in directory
  206.     services.

  208. *   Now, when you set a filter to Print and no printer is

  249. *    In the Checking Mail dialog box (Tools, Options), an
  250.      additional Authentication style, RPA (Remote Passphrase
  251.      Authentication), has been added. This allows you to get
  252.      your messages if they're on a server that requires
  253.      authentication via RPA, such as a CompuServe POP server.
  254.  
  255.      Before you can use the RPA authentication style, you'll need
  256.      to obtain a support module for RSA from your service provider.
  257.      For example, for CompuServe you'll need the Virtual Key
  258.      software, which can be downloaded from this Web site:

  261. *    A new pre-registration dialog box appears before the
  262.      registration dialog box appears if you have not yet
  263.      registered your Eudora software.

  265. *    A Return Address field has been added to the Getting Started
  266.      panel of the Options dialog box. Return Address is still in
  267.      the Personal Info, Sending Mail, and Personalities panels of
  268.      the Options dialog box.

  270. *    A new Using Context Sensitive Help dialog box is displayed the 
  271.      first time you launch Eudora (or when the Eudora.ini file does
  272.      not exist). This dialog box contains tips on using context-
  273.      sensitive help in Eudora. You can read the same information at
  274.      any time via Using Context Sensitive Help under the Help menu.

  276. *    A new switch, WordWrapOnScreen, has been added to the [Settings] 
  277.      category in the Eudora.ini file. When word wrapping is enabled and when
  278.      WordWrapOnScreen is set to 1, lines wrap in the composition window
  279.      at the same positions as when the message is sent. (Otherwise, the
  280.      width of the composition window determines where the lines appear
  281.      to wrap.)
  282.  
  283.      This can occur only if you and your recipient's composition window 
  284.      is wide enough on both screens for the column width specified, and 
  285.      that you use a fixed-width font, such as Courier, to compose the message.  
  286.  
  287.      To define the columns, the switch WordWrapOnScreen must be 
  288.      manually added to the Eudora.ini file and set to 1 (WordWrapOnScreen=1), 
  289.      and WordWrapColumn must be set to the column number you wish 
  290.      the text to wrap (WordWrapColumn=70 for 70 columns).

  352.      always crash when using 32-bit Trumpet 3.0 unless 
  353.      you enabled both "use asynch calls" settings in 
  354.      Miscellaneous functions in Options from the Tools 
  355.      Menu. Eudora will now detect the use of blocking 
  356.      calls with the 32-bit Trumpet stack and protect
  357.      against the crash.

  359. *    Eudora now correctly handles mailto URLs with

  505. which operating system you're using, and anything else you 
  506. think might be relevant.

  606. At the time of Licensee's  initial call or e-mail message, 
  607. the name and address of Licensee, the name of the designated 
  608. contact for technical support, the source from which Licensee 
  609. received the Software and other information necessary 
  610. for QUALCOMM to identify the Licensee for future support 
  611. purposes must be provided.

  613. 4.  Termination.  This License is effective only for 
  614. the thirty (30) day evaluation period.  Licensee may 
  615. terminate this License at any time by notifying QUALCOMM 
  616. or the reseller which provided the Software to the 
  617. Licensee, and destroying all copies of the Software 
  618. in the possession of the Licensee.  This License will 
  619. terminate immediately without notice from QUALCOMM if 
  620. Licensee fails to comply with any provision of this License.  
  621. Upon such termination, Licensee must destroy all copies of 
  622. the Software in the possession of the Licensee.

  624. 5.  Export Law Assurances.  Licensee agrees and 
  625. certifies that neither the Software nor any other 
  626. technical data received from QUALCOMM, nor the direct 
  627. product thereof, will be exported outside the United 
  628. States except as authorized and as permitted by the 
  629. laws and regulations of the United States.  If the 
  630. Software has been rightfully obtained by Licensee 
  631. outside of the United States, Licensee agrees that 
  632. Licensee will not re-export the Software nor any 
  633. other technical data received from QUALCOMM, nor 
  634. the direct product thereof, except as permitted 
  635. by the laws and regulations of the United States 
  636. and the laws and regulations of the jurisdiction 
  637. in which Licensee obtained the Software.  The 
  638. Software may not be exported to any of the following 
  639. countries:  Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea,
