  79.    What is Wolfstone?

  81.       A band from Scotland (The Highlands, Perthshire & Glasgow)
  82.       that brings together the drive of rock-and-roll with the melodies
  83.       of Celtic music. They produce a style of Celtic rock that many
  84.       find irresistible.
  85.  
  86.       Described as "bagpipes with an attitude," the energy and vitality
  87.       that Wolfstone brings to the stage is infectious; their audiences
  88.       are often brought to their collective feet with the opening notes
  89.       of the first tune.

  92.    What is new with Wolfstone?
  93.  
  94.       After disbanding for about a year, they have reformed and recorded
  95.       a new album.  Check your local record store for Wolfstone's "Seven"
  96.       from Green Linnet Records (www.greenlinnet.com).

  98.       In 2000 they recorded a live album entitled 'Not Enough Shouting'
  99.       on their own record label, Once Bitten Records, (Available, Feb
  100.       2001).  The band recently released "Almost an Island," their most
  101.       recent studio album, in May, 2002.

  106.       They toured extensively throughout Scandinavia, Britain, Europe

  119.    How did Wolfstone begin?
  120.  
  121.       In 1989 Duncan Chisholm found himself recording a solo album
  122.       in his native Scottish Highlands. Until this point, although
  123.       having interests in most styles of music, Duncan had been a first-
  124.       class exponent of the traditional Scottish Highland fiddle style,
  125.       studying under the expert tutelage of the late Donald Riddle, but
  126.       here surrounded by an array of studio toys, he began to see the
  127.       means to scratch the itch which had begun to bother him for some
  128.       time.  Duncan had met Stuart Eaglesham at a session in a local pub
  129.       and a short time later and ask him to join in forming a band.

  131.       Stuart`s brother Struan, working on the west coast at the time and
  132.       playing keyboards was given a similar offer. Piper Alan Wilson
  133.       blew in from Bonar Bridge to back Duncan up on the tunes and Roger
  134.       Niven from Avoch on the Black Isle provided lead guitar, soon to
  135.       be replaced by Andy Murray.

  137.       A couple of years later the songwriting talents of Orcadian
  138.       Ivan Drever completed the embryonic Wolfstone line-up who, with
  139.       sequenced drums and bass, performed their launchpad gig at the
  140.       first Highland Traditional Music Festival held in nearby Dingwall
  141.       in 1989.  Playing tunes and songs the way they wanted to hear
  142.       them, the band were offered further gigs as a result of their 
  143.       H.T.M.F. appearance and embarked on what was to become several
  144.       interesting years of playing the village halls up and down the
  145.       length and breadth of the Highlands and Islands.

  147.       Their teeth well and truly cut, the band were offered their
  148.       first recording contract with the Lismore/Iona record label in
  149.       Glasgow, and an opportunity to work with the legendary Silly
  150.       Wizard accordion virtuoso Phil Cunningham as producer resulted in
  151.       their first album Unleashed in 1991 The Unleashed album saw both a
  152.       musical step forward and a chance to cast aside the drum and bass
  153.       sequencer and work with a real drummer and bassist in the shape of
  154.       John Henderson and Neil Hay. Both John and Neil, very experienced
  155.       and respected session players, helped the band surge forward not
  156.       only in the studio but also in a number of live gigs promoting
  157.       Unleashed.

  159.       During the recording of Unleashed the band were offered a support
  160.       slot on the Runrig stage at Loch Lomond near Glasgow. The exposure
  161.       to and experience of playing in front of the huge audience saw the
  162.       band catapulted onto a new level of touring and playing larger
  163.       gigs and festivals, not only in the UK but increasingly now in
  164.       Europe, North America and Canada.

  195.                                of "Erin," "Song For Yesterday," "Ready for 
  196.                                the Storm" & "A Stoir Moi Chroi."

  199.    What about "Wolfstone" and "Wolfstone II"?

  201.       These are re-issues of old recordings that don't have anything
  202.       to do with the current group.  These recordings are being sold
  203.       against the band's wishes.  The band gets no royalties from them.
  204.  
  205.       Duncan Chisholm offers the band's word on these two:
  206.  
  207.           "We disown those two albums.  The band we are in
  208.           does not reflect what was going on then; a different
  209.           line up with different ideas and objectives; anyone
  210.           buying those two albums is not buying a Wolfstone
  211.           recording.  We would never promote them and we
  212.           certainly wouldn't sell them to anyone."

  214.       Some of the fans have been less reserved in their comments:
  215.  
  216.           A friend of mine went to Scotland and Ireland and
  217.           bought the offending Wolfstone recordings there. I
  218.           couldn't stop her ... they're not what I think of
  219.           when I think Wolfstone.

  222.    What Wolfstone tours have there been?
  223.  
  224.       With the release of _The_Chase_ in 1992, Wolfstone's touring
  225.       schedule expanded to include Europe and North America.  Highlights
  226.       included the headline spot at the Avante Festival in Portugal
  227.       where they played to over 70,000 people.  Their success at the
  228.       international Tonder Festival in Denmark caused them to be the
  229.       only band ever to be invited to perform for three consecutive
  230.       years.  In North America, repeat appearances at California's
  231.       Strawberry Festival and the prestigious Telluride Festival in
  232.       Colorado brought them legions of new fans with their energetic and
  233.       electrifying live performances.  On the strength of their 
  234.       Green Linnet album, _Year_of_the_Dog_, Wolfstone embarked on
  235.       an extensive tour of North America in 1995, beginning in February
  236.       on the West Coast.  Festivals appearances included The Winnipeg
  237.       Folk Festival and the Vancouver Folk Festival.
  238.  
  239.       1996 saw a tour of Europe in June and July, followed by a North
  240.       American tour and the release of _Half_Tail_.  With tour dates
  241.       in Europe during the early part of 1997.  Since 1997, Wolfstone 
  242.       have continued to play festivals and special events.  In 2002,
  243.       the band returned to the USA to the delight of their North
  244.       American fans.

  246.       In 2003, the band conintue to tour throughout Europe, but have
  247.       had to postponed their North American tours due to logistics
  248.       problems.  Plans for touring the US/Canada are already in 
  249.       the works for 2004, however.
