  27.               Welcome to rec.music.classical.performing!
  28.
  29. This is a fortnightly posting aimed at introducing new readers to
  30. rec.music.classical.performing. Other periodical postings include a
  31. monthly FAQ (frequently-asked questions list). [Readers not familiar
  32. with Usenet and newsgroups would be well advised to read articles in
  33. news.announce.newusers before proceeding any further.]
  34.
  35. Rec.music.classical.performing is an unmoderated newsgroup for the
  36. discussion of issues relevant to performers of classical music.
  37. There are several other classical music newsgroups, each with its
  38. own specific remit. For a guide to these, you may wish to refer to
  39. the periodical posting `Which Classical Music Newsgroup? (FAQ)',
  40. which can also be found on the World-Wide Web at:
  41.
  42.     http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/hypertext/faq/usenet/...
  43.         ...music/classical/newsgroups/faq.html
  44.
  45. (The URL should obviously be on one line, without the ellipses.)
  46.
  47. The newsgroup rec.music.classical.performing was formed to fill a
  48. perceived gap in the existing music newsgroup hierarchy. The following
  49. is an adaptation of the charter for formation of the newsgroup:
  50.
  51.     The group serves for discussion of issues relating to
  52.     the performing of classical music (which for present
  53.     purposes can be taken to include early music etc.).
  54.     The newsgroup is appropriate for discussion of:
  55.     instrumental and vocal technique, at both elementary
  56.     and advanced levels; ensemble playing/singing; conducting;
  57.     musical interpretation; instrument maintenance;
  58.     ear-training; sight-reading; tuning and intonation;
  59.     historical performance; etc.
  60.
  61. I'd like to encourage you to read the newsgroup for a while and, if
  62. you like what you see, to contribute anything you think might be of
  63. interest to your fellow classical musicians. Happy reading!
