  1. This file contains the most recent listing of available files in Sys_stuff
  2. as well as a short description of each. Most are GNUzipped (.gz) tar files.
  3. You will need the '../GNU_stuff/gzip_*.bin.tar.Z' file (which contains the
  4. GNUzip utility 'gzip|gunzip') to decompress these.
  5.  
  6. Diff-files can be applied by using 'patch' which is available precompiled
  7. as '../Utilities/patch.bin.tar.gz'
  8.  
  9. A1.README::
  10.     A text file description of all files in this directory.
  11.  
  12. BNET-somax.tar.gz::
  13.     A short shell script that uses 'adb' to change the value
  14.     of SOMAXCONN, the size of listen()s backlog queue limit, from
  15.     5 to 32.
  16.  
  17. EPIIdr.tar.gz::
  18.     These are the drivers for the "old" EtherPortII card (full-length
  19.     NuBus, based on the Intel controller). This was written for A/UX 1.1
  20.     but WILL work under 2.0.x as long as the card is used ONLY for TCP/IP
  21.     communication (NO EtherTalk). Please note that there have been MANY
  22.     reports of compatibility problems with the old EPII cards, this driver
  23.     and the IIfx... It seems that if you have a IIfx, you really should
  24.     upgrade to a different ethernet card.

  26. GNUfile.h::
  27.         Slightly hacked version of ../gcc/aux/?.?.?/include/sys/file.h for
  28.         'gcc' that makes it "fcntl.h" aware and prevents "redefine" warning
  29.         messages when both header files are included. Also see 'file.h'
  30.     below.

  32. NEWtc3.34.tar.gz::
  33.     A replacement for A/UX 3.x.x's 'tc' tape device driver. Fixes some
  34.     bugs, adds some capabilities and support for other tape drives
  35.     (such as WangDAT, WangTEK, HP and TEACs). Included is a replacement
  36.     for 'mt' to support new 'tc' as well as 'tbb' to speed up backups.
  37.     Version 3.34.
  38.  
  39. ORIGtc.gz::
  40.     Apple's 'tc' version 1.14 for A/UX 3.0.1... just in case you lose
  41.     yours when installing NEWtc :)

  43. at_interface::
  44.     Replacement for ~lp/model/at_interface, which fixes the little bug
  45.     that causes multiple copies of files (at times) to be printed. For
  46.     example, 'lp file.1 file.2' would print two copies of file.1 and
  47.     one of file.2. Entries in ~lp/interface based on at_interface should
  48.     also be patched as well.

  50. bind-4.9.3.tar.gz::
  51.     Port of the latest version of BIND/DNS (4.9.3-REL1) for A/UX.
  52.     Includes precompiled binaries for A/UX 3.1.1 as well as the complete
  53.     source.

  55. bsd-cut-paste.tar.gz::
  56.     Replacement version of A/UX's 'cut' and 'paste' utilities. Provided
  57.     by Ken Whang.

  59. bsd-last.tar.gz::
  60.     Replacement version of A/UX's 'last' utility. Main advantage is that
  61.     it also prints out the hostname of the user process. Port by Jim
  62.     Jagielski and Ken Whang.

  64. devscsi::
  65.     Corrected version of /etc/install.d/init.d/devscsi which ensures
  66.     that files in /dev/scsi have the correct permissions. All files
  67.     in /dev/scsi should be mode '600' with owner|group 'root'|'sys'.
  68.     Make sure your setup is correct. This script will keep things
  69.     correct next time you rebuild the kernel.

  71. dir.h::
  72.     Slightly hacked version of dir.h to correctly define rewinddir()
  73.     when _not_ using POSIX.

  75. disktab::
  76.     Compiled list of /etc/disktab entries... if you have one that isn't
  77.     included here, E-mail it to jim@jagubox.gsfc.nasa.gov.

  79. dp.tar.gz::
  80.     Drivers for the newer (half-length, National controller) EtherPortII
  81.     card... When Dayna sold the EPII card, they wrote these drivers for
  82.     A/UX 2.0.x. Now that Shiva sells the EPII card, Dayna no longer sells
  83.     the drivers and Shiva is still writing theirs... until that time,
  84.     use this, which is a copy of the Dayna drivers. There have been
  85.     only a FEW reports of incompatibility with the new EPII card and
  86.     the IIfx.

  89.     Slightly hacked version of /usr/include/sys/file.h that makes it
  90.     "fcntl.h" aware and prevents "redefine" warning messages when both
  91.     header files are included.

  93. libUTIL-2.1.tar.gz::
  94.     Doing some porting but having trouble because you lack some
  95.     needed functions (like memmove(), strstr() or strerror())? Worry
  96.     no more! libUTIL.a is a collection of these "missing" functions,
  97.     available in one easy to use archive. Included are two additional
  98.     header (.h files), the archive itself, a README file, and various
  99.     man-pages.

  101. libdb-1.85.tar.gz::
  102.     Port of the latest version, 1.85, of the Berkeley DB database
  103.     package. Fixes some bugs (and improves performance) over
  104.     the one distributed with A/UX 3.1.x.
  105.  
  106. man-utils.tar.gz::
  107.     A collection of programs and scripts that make viewing and
  108.     installing man pages easier. Includes a replacement for 'man',
  109.     'auxman' and 'mkwhatis' which generates a newer, up-to-date
  110.     whatis database.

  112. nhd1.5.tar.gz::
  113.     A new object-oriented hard disk driver based on the Gears SCSI
  114.     driver (GSD). It replaces Apple's Generic Disk Driver (GDISK)
  115.     and provides nice additions and capabilities, especially with
  116.     regards to CD-ROM drives. Written by Kristopher L. Tyra

  128.     Port of the shadow-password suite for A/UX. Using these programs,

  133.     A very nice, efficient double-buffering utility. Kinda like a
  134.     double-ended 'dd'. Written by Tony Cooper. Really recommended!

  137.     Craig Ruff's "teac" device driver. Complete with sources and
  138.     instructions.

  140. telnet-aux.tar.gz::
  141.     Replacement versions (and source) for telnet and in.telnetd for
  142.     A/UX. Original ports by John Coolidge, updated by Jim Jagielski.

  144. traceroute-aux.tar.gz::
  145.     Complete 'traceroute' package for A/UX 3.1(.1). Includes the
  146.     updated 'bnet' driver to support traceroute, as well as _2_
  147.     versions of 'traceroute', pre-compiled to run under A/UX.

  150.     A wrapper for /etc/init that protects it (and all other processes)
  151.     from SIGURG signals... A MUST GET !!!

  153. vif-1.3.tar.gz::
  154.     Just the ticket for multihomed/Virtual Web Servers: the Virtual
  155.     Interface kernel module for A/UX. With this module, you can
  156.     add virtual interfaces to your real Ethernet interface and have
  157.     your A/UX box answer to multiple IP addresses.
