  224.   Do not install this FixPak if either of the following applies to you:

  226.   APTIVA M Series
  227.  
  228.   OS/2 FixPaks can not be installed on Aptiva M series models that were
  229.   preloaded with OS/2 Warp.  However, if you installed (or reinstalled)
  230.   a shrinkwrapped version of OS/2 Warp on these models, you can install
  231.   the FixPak.  Contact OS/2 Technical Support if you need assistance in
  232.   this process.

  235.  
  236.   DCF/2 will not work with this FixPak or any FixPak since XR_W009. If
  237.   you must apply this FixPak then you have to uncompress your harddisk
  238.   and not use DCF/2.

  283.   DO NOT USE YOUR SYSTEM ONCE THE FIXPAK INSTALLATION IS STARTED
  284.  
  285.   Once you begin a FixPak installation, do not try to use your system
  286.   for any other purpose. Doing so may yield unexpected problems which
  287.   can cause the FixPak installation to fail.
  288.  
  289.  
  290.   WHAT IS THE SIQ (SINGLE INPUT QUEUE) FEATURE
  291.  
  292.   The "SIQ" feature is new with FixPak XR_W017. It allows the user to
  293.   take focus away from an application that is monopolizing the message
  294.   queue.  When the FixPak is installed, the SIQ feature is disabled
  295.   (OFF).
  296.  
  297.  
  298.   How it works
  299.  
  300.   When you request a focus change for example, by clicking on another
  301.   application or pressing Ctl+Esc the application that has the focus
  302.   should respond to the message in x milliseconds.  If the application
  303.   does not respond within that time, OS/2 determines that the
  304.   application is not responding to messages and flags the application
  305.   queue as bad. It then switches focus to the desired application.
  306.  
  307.   OS/2 will monitor the queue marked as bad to see when it does start
  308.   responding to messages. It will mark the queue as good when this
  309.   occurs.
  310.  
  311.   To enable the SIQ feature, put a SET PM_ASYNC_FOCUS_CHANGE statement
  312.   in CONFIG.SYS and reboot.
  313.  
  314.   The parameters to the SET command are:
  315.  
  316.          SET PM_ASYNC_FOCUS_CHANGE=ON | ON x | OFF
  317.  
  318.          The default is OFF (disabled).
  319.  
  320.  
  321.   To turn it on (enable) put the following in the CONFIG.SYS file and
  322.   reboot:

  327.   To change the timeout value put the following in the CONFIG.SYS file

  338.          where x is in milliseconds (default is 2000 (2 seconds))

  342.   If you think you are having problems with SIQ, a way to isolate a
  343.   problem is to raise the timeout to 5000 milliseconds (5 seconds).  If
  344.   that does not help, turn it off.  If there is a SIQ feature problem,
  345.   this will help us (IBM) isolate it.
  346.

  348.   POPUP MESSAGE ABOUT NEWER FILE ON HARDDISK THAN IS IN FIXPAK
  349.  
  350.   If you get a popup stating that a newer file exists on your harddisk
  351.   than is in the FixPak, and it is one of the following files, select
  352.   the "No" button so you DO NOT replace the newer file with the older
  353.   one.

  365.   COMMON FILE DIALOG INTERFACE CHANGES
  366.  
  367.   The Common File Dialog interface has been rearranged to improve
  368.   usability.  The changes are:
  369.  
  370.   ■   "Type of file" field moved below the Open filename.
  371.  
  372.   ■   "Drive" and "Directory" controls were swapped with the "File"
  373.       control.
  374.  
  375.  
  376.  
  377.   DELL MACHINES AND FONT EDITING
  378.  
  379.   When editing fonts, users of Dell machines may discover a slight
  380.   regression.  When a font size is edited, the Font Palette is updated
  381.   correctly; however, should users browse (select around) the palette,
  382.   they might, at times, notice an inconsistency between the font size
  383.   displayed on the palette and the one that is displayed on the font
  384.   editor.  In all cases, the font size displayed on the Font Palette is
  385.   the correct size for the font when it is dragged to the target (for
  386.   example, the desktop, folder, or application).

  393.   CORRECTIVE SERVICE FACILITY BOOT DISKETTES
  394.  
  395.   You will need the OS/2 Warp 3.0 Corrective Service Facility Boot
  396.   Diskettes to install this FixPak. These files should be available from
  397.   the same place you got this FixPak.
  398.  
  399.      CSFBOOT.1DK - Corrective Service Facility disk 1
  400.      CSFBOOT.2DK - Corrective Service Facility disk 2
  401.  
  402.         - or -
  403.  
  404.      WKICKR.ZIP   - File compressed with PKZIP. Contains both of the
  405.                     above disk images. Requires PKUNZIP or UNZIP to
  406.                     extract original files from the compressed file.
  407.  
  408.  
  409.   To create diskettes from the disk image files, you need LOADDSKF.EXE.
  410.   This is also available from the same place you obtained this FixPak.
  411.  
  412.      LDF.COM      - Self-extracting file that will create LOADDSKF.EXE.
  413.                     Place in a separate directory on your hard disk
  414.                     and then enter LDF.
  415.  
  416.         - or -
  417.  
  418.      LOADDF.ZIP   - File compressed with PKZIP that contains LOADDSKF.EXE.
  419.                     Requires PKUNZIP or UNZIP to extract original files
  420.                     from the compressed file.

  422.   Note: LOADDSKF.EXE is also on any CD-ROM version of OS/2.

  425.   Use LOADDSKF.EXE to create the diskettes. For each disk image, place a
  426.   2MB HD (1.44MB formatted) diskette in A:. DO NOT use a 1MB (720KB
  427.   formatted) diskette because you might have problems trying to install
  428.   this FixPak.

  430.   1.  Enter LOADDSKF CSFBOOT.1DK A: /F. Label the diskette as CSF DISK
  431.       Diskette 1 (SP DISK 1).
  432.

  467.   READ-ONLY FILES
  468.  
  469.   If you installed OS/2 Warp 3.0 from a CD-ROM, some files being updated
  470.   might have the Read-Only attribute set. This will cause the update
  471.   program to ask you if you want the files replaced. Answer OK.

  507.   RELOCATED OS/2 FILE SUPPORT
  508.  
  509.   This FixPak will service directories based on the location of
  510.   supported SYSLEVEL.OS2 and SYSLEVEL.MPM files.  Please check your
  511.   system to make sure extra copies of these files are not located in
  512.   directories other than:
  513.  
  514.     \OS2\INSTALL\SYSLEVEL.OS2 on the boot drive of your OS/2 partition(s)
  515.     \MMOS2\INSTALL\SYSLEVEL.MPM on any partition
  516.  
  517.  
  518.   If additional copies of these files are found in other locations on
  519.   your hard disk then CSF will try to service files as follows:
  520.  
  521.   For SYSLEVEL.OS2
  522.  
  523.     ..\..\   all files in a directory two levels above (toward the root).
  524.              This should be the root directory of your boot drive.
  525.     ..\*     all files in a directory one level above (toward the root) and
  526.              all subdirectories below. This should be the OS2 directory and
  527.              subdirectories.
  528.  
  529.  
  530.   For SYSLEVEL.MPM
  531.  
  532.     ..\*     all files in a directory one level above (toward the root) and
  533.              all subdirectories below. This should be the MMOS2 directory and
  534.              subdirectories.
  535.  
  536.  
  537.   If you have moved OS/2 files or directories, do the following in order
  538.   to have them serviced:
  539.  
  540.   1.  Create a file named USERDIRS.OS2 in the \OS2\INSTALL directory of
  541.       the OS\2 Warp partition to be serviced.
  542.  
  543.       In this file, place the full path to the directory you want to be
  544.       serviced. Examples would be:
  545.  
  546.        C:\JSI\*
  547.        D:\JSI\SH\*
  548.  
  549.  
  550.       Be sure to include the trailing * (asterisk) after the last
  551.       backslash.
  552.  
  553.   Note: Leave this file for any future OS/2 Warp FixPaks you might
  554.   apply.

  564.   INSTALLATION PROCESS
  565.  
  566.   Before installing any FixPak, run CHKDSK /F against all drives on your
  567.   system to correct any file system errors that might be present. You
  568.   cannot do this while OS/2 is active. You must shut down and run CHKDSK
  569.   by one of the following methods:
  570.  
  571.   ■   Boot from your Installation and DISK 1 diskettes you used to
  572.       install OS/2 with.  If your file system is HPFS, then put the
  573.       diskette with CHKDSK and UHPFS.DLL on it in your A: drive before
  574.       issuing the CHKDSK command.
  575.  
  576.   ■   Boot from the Utilities disk you created via the "Create Utility
  577.       Diskettes" icon in the System Setup folder.
  578.  
  579.   ■   Boot from a different OS/2 partition.
  580.  
  581.   To Install this FixPak use one of the following methods:
  582.  
  583.  
  584.   METHOD 1: INSTALL FROM BOOTED OS/2 PARTITION.
  585.  
  586.   This method allows you to select the products (partitions) to be
  587.   serviced.
  588.  
  589.   This is the method you should use if you have more than one OS/2
  590.   partition and want to control which one is serviced.
  591.  
  592.   Note: You can use a diskette drive other than A: with this method. If
  593.   your 3.5" diskette drive is B:, use B: where A: is mentioned in the
  594.   following steps.  (this method only).
  595.  
  596.   1.  Insert CSF DISK Diskette 1 in drive A.
  597.  
  598.   2.  Open an OS/2 window or full-screen session.
  599.  
  600.   3.  Type A:\SERVICE and press the Enter key.
  601.  
  602.   4.  Follow the displayed instructions. When prompted to insert
  603.       Corrective Service Diskette 1 (not CSF DISK Diskette 1), place
  604.       FixPak XR_W017 Corrective Service Diskette 1 in drive A. Repeat
  605.       for the rest of the FixPak disks when requested to do so.
  606.  
  607.       Note: It can take a considerable length of time for the Corrective
  608.       Service Facility to scan your hard disk for serviceable files. In
  609.       some cases, it has taken as long as 40 minutes. Please be patient
  610.       and allow this process to complete.
  611.  
  612.   5.  If this is the first OS/2 Warp FixPak you have applied to this
  613.       system, then enter the path to the ARCHIVE directory where a copy
  614.       of replaced files will be stored (for example, D:\ARCHIVE).

  622.       Note: This ARCHIVE directory is not related to the ARCHIVES
  623.       directory built into OS/2 Warp 3.0. Please specify a different
  624.       path.  You must specify a different ARCHIVE directory for each
  625.       product to be serviced.
  626.  
  627.       If this is not the first OS/2 Warp FixPak, then enter the path to
  628.       the BACKUP directory where a copy of replaced files will be stored
  629.       (for example, D:\BACKUP).
  630.  
  631.       Note: You must specify a different BACKUP directory for each
  632.       product to be serviced.
  633.  
  634.       For either case, make sure there is sufficient space available on
  635.       the drive you specify. Even though these files are kept in
  636.       compressed (PACK2) format, they require between 7 and 12 MB of
  637.       disk space.
  638.  
  639.   6.  Click on "OK".
  640.  
  641.   7.  You will see an "Application in use" dialog box showing a list of
  642.       locked files that cannot be serviced while the system is running.
  643.       You are given two choices - to Continue or Reboot. Select
  644.       Continue.
  645.  
  646.   8.  During the installation process you might see messages about
  647.       Archiving, Updating and Deferring service.
  648.  
  649.       ■   Archiving saves a compressed copy of the original file in the
  650.           ARCHIVE or BACKUP path you specified. This occurs only if you
  651.           apply service to the OS/2 partition you are booted from.
  652.  
  653.       ■   Updating means the original files are replaced with the new
  654.           ones from this FixPak.
  655.  
  656.       ■   Deferring service means the file to be updated is currently in
  657.           use by the system and cannot be updated. The new files from
  658.           the FixPak are placed in unpacked format in the
  659.           \OS2\INSTALL\IBMCSFLK\FIX directory on your Warp boot drive.
  660.           They are processed by the locked file device driver during
  661.           reboot after you shut down the system.
  662.  
  663.   9.  Select NO for a redisplay of the "Product List" after the first
  664.       part of the FixPak application process has completed if this
  665.       message is displayed.
  666.  
  667.   10. Click Cancel and Exit to close the Corrective Service Facility
  668.       window if necessary.
  669.  
  670.   11. Shut down and reboot your system.

  678.       You will see the following during reboot of the system if you
  679.       applied service to the OS/2 partition you were booted from.
  680.  
  681.      The locked file driver is loaded.
  682.  
  683.             Processing locked files
  684.  
  685.             Processing complete
  686.  
  687.  
  688.       The system might then do an automatic reboot. In some cases, it
  689.       might do an additional reboot.
  690.  
  691.  
  692.  
  693.   METHOD 2: BOOT FROM CORRECTIVE SERVICE DISK 1.
  694.  
  695.   This method does not prompt the user for any information. No
  696.   interaction with the user takes place other than requests to put the
  697.   next diskette in drive A.  All serviceable partitions on your system
  698.   will be updated automatically. Be especially careful of extra
  699.   SYSLEVEL.OS2 or SYSLEVEL.MPM files when using this method because they

  918.     If RIPL (Remote IPL) of a work station fails after the FixPak is
  919.     applied when it worked prior to applying the FixPak, the probable
  920.     cause is a downlevel SOM.DLL in the \IBMLAN\RPL\IBMLAN\NETLIB
  921.     directory.

  923.     After applying fixpack 17 to the \IBMLAN\RPL\OS2.30 directory
  924.     tree on a LAN Server 4.0 RIPL server, the following procedure
  925.     must be followed to complete the update:
  926.  
  927.     1. Change to the d:\IBMLAN\RPL\IBMLAN\NETLIB directory.
  928.        Where d: is the drive where \IBMLAN\RPL is installed.
  929.  
  930.     2. Create a new sub-directory, SOMBAK.

  1044.   To fix data problems with the RZ1000 and CMD640 chips, disable
  1045.   Read-ahead mode in the OS/2 IBM1S506.ADD and CMD640X.ADD device
  1046.   drivers.  These are generic device drivers which fix all the above
  1047.   releases and are compatible with systems that DO NOT use the RZ1000 or
  1048.   CMD640x chips.

  1050.   The new IBM1S506 device driver detects the RZ1000 and disables
  1051.   read-ahead for both RZ1000 IDE channels.  The IBM1S506 device driver
  1052.   also detects the CMD640x chip and disables read-ahead for the primary
  1053.   IDE channel.

  1055.   The new CMD640X device driver detects the CMD640 chip and disables
  1056.   read-ahead mode for both IDE channels.
  1057.  
  1058.   Also included with this fix distribution are the corresponding ATAPI
  1059.   CD-ROM device drivers so as to remain synchronized with IDE drivers.

  1307.   The Current CSD level for the "IBM OS/2 Base Operating System" will
  1308.   not be changed by installation of this FixPak even though the
  1309.   SERVICE.LOG file states it will. This FixPak is not a Service Level
  1310.   change. It upgrades the existing service level (XR_300n); therefore
  1311.   the SYSLEVEL is not changed. All fix information is recorded in the
  1312.   SERVICE.LOG file.
