  63. The XGA / XGA-2 device driver provides seamless
  64. support for display graphics and advanced color
  65. resolutions when used with the minimum required
  66. video memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit flat
  67. memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  68. Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  69. the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.  This driver has
  70. been enabled for use with the IBM* Display Console
  71. Access Facility (DCAF) product.

  119. This graphics driver is compatible with
  120. OS/2 Warp versions 3 and 4.

  123. 3.0  PRELIMINARY STEPS
  124. ______________________
  125.  
  126. The following steps prepare your computer for the
  127. XGA, XGA-2 device driver:
  128.  
  129. 1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  130.     to install this driver.
  131.  
  132. 2.  The OS/2 ATTRIB command is used during
  133.     installation of the device driver.  If you
  134.     elected not to install the OS/2 Optional System
  135.     Utilities or you have deleted the ATTRIB command,
  136.     use Selective Install and select Change File
  137.     Attributes to restore the ATTRIB command before
  138.     continuing.
  139.  
  140. 3.  If you previously installed XGA support, return
  141.     to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  142.     "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  143.     README before you install this driver.
  144.

  146. 4.0  INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  147. _______________________________
  148.  
  149. To install the XGA, XGA-2 device driver from
  150. diskette, do the following:
  151.  
  152. 1.  Insert the XGA, XGA-2 diskette into drive A (or
  153.     any other diskette drive).
  154.  
  155. 2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  156.  
  157. 3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  158.     command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  159.     drive:
  160.  
  161.            A:SETUP A: C:
  162.  
  163.     (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  164.     drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  165.  
  166.     Then press Enter.
  167.  
  168. 4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  169.     drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  170.     your computer.
  171.  
  172. 5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  173.  
  174. 6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  175.  
  176. 7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.
  177.  
  178.     When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  179.     "XGA, XGA-2 (BBS)"
  180.     should be the default choice.  If not, select it.
  181.     Then select OK.
  182.  
  183. 8.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  184.     window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  185.     Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  186.     accept this choice or select "Install Using
  187.     Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  188.     different refresh rate.  Then select OK.
  189.  
  190.     If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  191.     Utility Program" choice, you must have a DOS
  192.     monitor utility that came with your display
  193.     adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  194.     manufacturer's technical support for information
  195.     on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  196.  
  197. 9.  When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  198.     insert the XGA, XGA-2 diskette into drive A.
  199.     Then select Install.
  200.  
  201. 10. When the installation is complete, do the
  202.     following:
  203.     a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  204.     b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  205.     c.  Open the System object.
  206.     d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  207.         the Screen tab.  Then go to Screen Page 2.
  208.     e.  On Screen Page 2, select your display from
  209.         the display list.  If your display does not
  210.         appear in the list, select Default.
  211.     f.  Return to Screen Page 1 and select a
  212.         resolution and a screen refresh rate.
  213.     g.  Close the Settings notebook.
  214.     h.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.
  215.  
  216. Note that during the installation of this driver,
  217. DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  218. OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  219. system files that were updated and indicate whether
  220. the installation was successful.  The contents of
  221. these files might be useful if you need to report an
  222. installation problem to IBM.

  225. 5.0  INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT
  226. ______________________________________
  227.  
  228. NOTES:
  229.  
  230. 1.  The server must contain a directory named TS_DRVS
  231.     on the same drive where the OS/2 diskettes
  232.     reside.  The XGA_DRVS directory must contain all
  233.     of the files from the XGA, XGA-2 device driver
  234.     diskette.
  235.  
  236. 2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  237.     client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  238.     Distribution) method.
  239.  
  240. To install the XGA, XGA-2 device driver using CID,
  241. use the following information to modify your LCU
  242. command file.
  243.

  340.        /pd:c:\os2\install\bbsxga.dsc
  341.         is the dsc laid down during setup phase.
  342.  
  343.        /S:X:\img\xga_drvs
  344.         where X:\img\xga_drvs is the redirected source path.
  345.  
  346.        /T:C:
  347.         where C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  348.  
  349.        /res:640x480x256
  350.         is a resolution/color depth from the list of "Supported
  351.         Resolutions" that appears earlier in this README.
  352.  
  353.        /u
  354.         means Unattended installation.
  355.  
  356. NOTES:
  357.  
  358. 1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  359.     required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  360.     earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  361.     640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  362.     be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  363.     you select a resolution that your display does
  364.     not support.
  365.  
  366. 2.  After the XGA, XGA-2 device driver has been
  367.     successfully installed on the client machine
  368.     using the CID method and the client machine is
  369.     restarted, the resolution will be as specified by
  370.     command line argument.
  371.  
  372.  
  373. 6.0  FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  374. ____________________________
  375.  
  376. o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  377.     MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  378.     256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  379.     users of the feature will experience unusual
  380.     results.  An OS/2 pervasive fix package will be
  381.     available electronically.  The software motion
  382.     video feature is not supported in 16-million
  383.     color modes.
  384.  
  385. o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2*
  386.     window session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  387.     full-screen session.
  388.  
  389. o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  390.     WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  391.     WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
  392.  
  393. o   Display Console Access Facility (DCAF) is
  394.     supported in 256-color modes only.
  395.  
  396.  
  397. 7.0  SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  398. _____________________________________
  399.  
  400. Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  401.  
  402. NOTE:  If your display is out of sync, start OS/2
  403.        using the OS/2 Installation Diskette, insert
  404.        Diskette 1 when prompted, then press F3 to
  405.        display a command prompt.  Use the following
  406.        instructions to reset your display mode:
  407.  
  408. o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  409.     returning to VGA mode has been simplified.  Do
  410.     the following:
  411.  
  412.     1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  413.         already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  414.  
  415.     2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  416.         left-hand corner of your screen, press
  417.         Alt+F1.
  418.  
  419.     3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  420.         press V.
  421.  
  422.     Your display adapter is restored and can work in
  423.     VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  424.     adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter
  425.     16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
  426.     OS/2 Warp.
  427.  
  428. o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.11,
  429.     or OS/2 for Windows, and you installed from
  430.     diskettes, do the following:
  431.  
  432.     1.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL
  433.         directory.  If it is, go to step 2.  If it is
  434.         not, insert Diskette 8 into drive A and
  435.         unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the following
  436.         command:
  437.  
  438.           C:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  439.  
  440.         (where A: is the drive containing Diskette 8,
  441.         and C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  442.  
  443.     2.  Type C: and then press Enter.
  444.  
  445.     3.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press Enter.
  446.  
  447.     4.  Type the following:
  448.

  452.         installed.  In /S:A:, A: is the diskette

  457. o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.11,
  458.     or OS/2 for Windows, and you installed from
  459.     CD-ROM or a LAN, do the following:
