  57.   The Tseng ET4000/W32 device driver provides seamless
  58.   support for accelerated display graphics and advanced
  59.   color resolutions when used with the minimum required
  60.   video memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit flat
  61.   memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  62.   Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  63.   the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.  This driver has
  64.   been enabled for use with the IBM* Distributed Console
  65.   Access Facility* (DCAF) product.

  91.   Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, and /W32p chip sets with the specified
  92.   amount of memory.  IBM is continuing to test; therefore, support
  93.   for additional cards might be added over time.

  122.   2.0  COMPATIBILITY

  125.   This graphics accelerator driver is compatible with
  126.   OS/2 Warp versions 3 and 4.

  129.   3.0  PRELIMINARY STEPS
  130.   ______________________
  131.  
  132.   The following steps prepare your computer for the
  133.   Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, or /W32p device driver:
  134.  
  135.   1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  136.       to install this driver.
  137.   2.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return
  138.       to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  139.       "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  140.       README before you install this driver.

  142.  
  143.   4.0  INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  144.   _______________________________
  145.  
  146.   To install the Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, or /W32p device
  147.   driver from diskette, do the following:
  148.  
  149.   1.  Insert the Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, or /W32p diskette
  150.       into drive A (or any other diskette drive).
  151.       Note: This diskette should have a volume label of "TLIW32 1".
  152.       To verify, use "Label A:".
  153.   2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  154.   3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  155.       command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  156.       drive:
  157.  
  158.         A:SETUP A: C:
  159.  
  160.       (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  161.       drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  162.  
  163.       Then press Enter.
  164.   4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  165.       drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  166.       your computer.
  167.   5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  168.   6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  169.   7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.
  170.       When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  171.       select Primary Display Driver and then select OK.
  172.   8.  When the Display Driver Select window appears, select
  173.       "Tseng Laboratories ET4000/W32, /W32i, /W32p (IBM BBS)"
  174.       to install the BBS video driver.
  175.   9.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  176.       window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  177.       Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  178.       accept this choice or select "Install Using
  179.       Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  180.       different refresh rate.  Then select OK.
  181.  
  182.       If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  183.       Utility Program" choice, you must have the DOS
  184.       monitor utility that came with your display
  185.       adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  186.       manufacturer's technical support for information
  187.       on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  188.  
  189.       NOTE:  At this point, DSPINSTL determines the
  190.              hardware configuration by creating the
  191.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file.  If the
  192.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file has not been
  193.              created, the adapter will not be
  194.              supported.
  195.              This process can take several seconds and
  196.              will black-out the screen.
  197.  
  198.   10. When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  199.       insert the Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, or /W32p diskette
  200.       into drive A.
  201.       Then select Install.
  202.   11. When the installation is complete, do the
  203.       following:
  204.       a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  205.       b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  206.       c.  Open the System object.
  207.       d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  208.           the Screen tab.  Then go to Screen page 2.
  209.       e.  On Screen page 2, select your display from
  210.           the display list.  If your display does not
  211.           appear in the list, select Default.
  212.       f.  Return to Screen page 1 and select a
  213.           resolution and a screen refresh rate.
  214.       g.  Close the Settings notebook.
  215.       h.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.
  216.  
  217.   Note that during the installation of this driver,
  218.   DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  219.   OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  220.   system files that were updated and indicate whether
  221.   the installation was successful.  The contents of
  222.   these files might be useful if you need to report an
  223.   installation problem to IBM.

  226.   5.0  INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT
  227.   ______________________________________

  229.   NOTES:
  230.  
  231.   1.  The server must contain a directory named TS_DRVS
  232.       on the same drive where the OS/2 diskettes
  233.       reside.  The TS_DRVS directory must contain all
  234.       of the files from the Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, or
  235.       /W32p device driver diskette.
  236.   2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  237.       client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  238.       Distribution) method.
  239.   3.  To configure resolution, monitor selection and
  240.       refresh rate, refer to the file "README.CFG"
  241.       in this package.

  243.   To install the Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, or /W32p device
  244.   driver using CID, use the following information to modify
  245.   your LCU command file.

  350.         is a resolution/color depth from the list of "Supported Resolutions"

  356.   NOTES:
  357.  
  358.   1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  359.       required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  360.       earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  361.       640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  362.       be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  363.       you select a resolution that your display does
  364.       not support.
  365.   2.  After the Tseng ET4000/W32, /W32i, or /W32p device
  366.       driver has been successfully installed on the client
  367.       machine using the CID method and the client machine is
  368.       restarted, the resolution will be as specified by
  369.       command line argument.
  370.  
  371.   3.  After the CID install, refer the end user to
  372.       section 4.0 INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE step 11.
  373.

  375.  
  376.   6.0  FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  377.   ____________________________
  378.  
  379.   o   After Dark** for Windows** images that move from
  380.       left to right do not perform properly at
  381.       640x480x16M resolution.
  382.   o   To avoid a general protection fault while loading
  383.       Ventura Publisher** for Windows, be sure it is in
  384.       one of the 256 color resolutions.
  385.   o   To avoid a trap in Lotus** 1-2-3** for OS/2, do
  386.       not attempt to run the program at 16.7 million
  387.       colors.
  388.   o   WordPerfect** Versions 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows
  389.       produce a general protection fault when the
  390.       "Print Preview" option is selected while using
  391.       800x600x64K or 600x480x16 million color mode.
  392.   o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  393.       MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  394.       256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  395.       OS/2 2.1 users of the feature will experience unusual
  396.       results.  An OS/2 pervasive-fix package is available
  397.       as Fix Package XR06200 for APAR PJ11051. OS/2 versions
  398.       2.11 and above have this fix. The software motion
  399.       video feature is not supported in 16-million
  400.       color modes.
  401.   o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2*
  402.       window session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  403.       full-screen session.
  404.   o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  405.       WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  406.       WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
  407.   o   Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF) is
  408.       supported in 256-color modes only.
  409.   o   Systems with Pentium 100Mhz processors and faster
  410.       may lock up switiching between Win-OS/2 sessions
  411.       (seamless or full-screen) using Alt-Esc.  This is
  412.       a hardware restriction.

  416.   7.0  SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  417.   _____________________________________
  418.  
  419.   Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  420.  
  421.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  422.       and you do not have a usable OS/2 Desktop, use
  423.       the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  424.       However, if you have a usable Desktop, it is
  425.       recommended that you use Selective Install to set
  426.       your display to VGA mode.
  427.  
  428.       1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  429.           already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  430.       2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  431.           left-hand corner of your screen, press
  432.           Alt+F1.
  433.       3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  434.           press V.
  435.       4.  Run Selective Install to change the Windows drivers.
  436.  
  437.       Your display adapter is restored and can work in
  438.       VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  439.       adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter
  440.       16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
  441.       OS/2 Warp.
  442.  
  443.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.1,
  444.       2.11, or OS/2 for Windows, and you do not have a
  445.       usable OS/2 Desktop, use the following procedures
  446.       to return to VGA mode.  However, if you have a
  447.       usable Desktop, it is recommended that you use
  448.       the Display Driver Install object to set your
  449.       display to VGA mode.
  450.  
  451.       -   If you installed OS/2 from diskettes, do the
  452.           following:
  453.  
  454.           1.  Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation
  455.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  456.               1 and then press Enter. When the install
  457.               option screen appears, press F3 (or Esc) to
  458.               exit to a command prompt.
  459.           2.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the
  460.               \OS2\INSTALL directory.  If it is, go to
  461.               step 3.  If it is not, insert Diskette 8
  462.               into drive A and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with
  463.               the following command:
  464.  
  465.                 C:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  466.  
  467.               (where A: is the drive containing
  468.               Diskette 8, and C: is the drive where
  469.               OS/2 is installed.)
  470.           3.  Type C: and then press Enter.
  471.           4.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press
  472.               Enter.
  473.           5.  Type the following:
  474.  
  475.                 RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:C:
  476.  
  477.               (In /T:C:, C: is the drive where OS/2 is
  478.               installed.  In /S:A:, A: is the diskette
  479.               drive you use to install OS/2.)

  481.               Then press Enter.
  482.  
  483.       -   If you installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN,
  484.           do the following:
  485.  
  486.           1.  Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation
  487.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  488.               1 and then press Enter. When the install
  489.               option screen appears, press F3 (or Esc) to
  490.               exit to a command prompt.
  491.  
  492.           2.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the
  493.               \OS2\INSTALL directory.  If it is, go to
  494.               step 3.  If it is not, unpack RSPDSPI.EXE
  495.               with the following command:
